Historia
When we think of fungi, we likely think of mushrooms. But mushrooms are only fruiting bodies, analogous to apples on a tree. Most fungi live out of sight, yet make up a massively diverse kingdom of organisms that supports and sustains nearly all living systems. Fungi provide a key to understanding the planet on which we live, and the ways we think, feel, and behave.

Love This Book

Mind-blowing. Every once in a while I had to pause to scrape my mind off the ceiling. The author’s voice is so perfect for the content.

Historia
At the heart of this psychological suspense novel is the haunting depiction of a family's fall and the extraordinary gifted dog, Caity, who knows the truth. As the drama unfolds, Caity evolves from protector to savior, from scapegoat to prop, and eventually from avenger to survivor. She is an unselfish soul in a selfish world - and she is written with depth and grace by authors Ketchum and Mckee, who display a profound understanding of a dog's complex emotions.

I was Loving it Until...
Revisado: 05-15-20
I really loved the first part of this book, a story about an exceptional girl who is an eleven year old actress with a pushy, manipulative stage mother. The most intriguing character in the story is the dog, Katie. The authors have written an excellent portrayal of the inner life of an intelligent and devoted pet. I couldn't wait to see what would happen next.
Until it became brutally, graphically violent. And that's when I started to hate this book. The narrator is excellent but I could never recommend this book. If you read it anyway, don't say you weren't warned.

Started out Promising But...
Revisado: 08-21-18
After the first few hours of listening it became grindingly slow and a few hours later I could no longer bear to listen. I should have read other reviews before purchasing and I would have been warned how repetitive and boring this book is. The premise was hardly intriguing enough to drive so many hours of repetitive narrative. Fortunately Audible has a return for refund feature so if you decide to buy this book despite being warned and then decide you agree, you will have lost noting but some time.

It was Long
Revisado: 06-25-18
Really, really long. You get your credit's worth with this one. But the entire plot is driven by an unscientific speculation that is supported by sketchy science. Un believable, stereotypical characters, boring narrative style - the reading of written communication, many times just one word, but including repeated time stamps, log numbers, etc. Mind numbing. And then, as if the authors became just as bored as I was, they just end the story, leaving the reader to make up the ending.

Superheroes have always been Leia Birch Briggs' weakness. One tequila-soaked night at a comics convention, the usually level-headed graphic novelist is swept off her barstool by a handsome and anonymous Batman. It turns out the caped crusader has left her with more than just a nice, fuzzy memory. She's having a baby boy - an unexpected but not unhappy development in the 38-year-old's life.

An Almost Perfect Book!
Revisado: 05-05-18
I just loved everything about this book! The story had several different threads that wove together to make a nuanced and beautifully textured tapestry. The author, who was also the narrator, took what was a terrific story and knocked it out of the park. Her distinctive voice and wonderful character voices were so enjoyable that I can't imagine this book read by anyone else. I am hesitant about listening to another of her self-read books, for fear that it couldn't possibly measure up!

Historia
First published in 1816 and generally considered Jane Austen's finest work, Emma is a humorous portrayal of a heroine whose injudicious interferences in the life of a young parlour-boarder in a neighboring village often lead to substantial mortification. Austen brings to life a myriad of engaging characters as she presents a mixture of social classes as she did in Pride and Prejudice.

Drivel
Revisado: 04-26-18
A bunch of drivel shouted out by a screeching narrator! At the end of nearly every sentence, the narrator pauses so long I questioned whether I had lost my blue tooth connection. I finally had to give up on this one. If I hadn't received it for free, I'd definitely ask for my credit back.

Historia
Anna Fox lives alone - a recluse in her New York City home, unable to venture outside. She spends her day drinking wine (maybe too much), watching old movies, recalling happier times...and spying on her neighbors. Then the Russells move into the house across the way: a father, mother, their teenaged son. The perfect family. But when Anna, gazing out her window one night, sees something she shouldn't, her world begins to crumble. And its shocking secrets are laid bare.

Kept My Interest
Revisado: 03-20-18
All the way through till the final scene, this book kept my interest. I loved the development of the plot as layers were pulled back and greater understanding of the protagonist's character and challenges were revealed. I was shocked to discover the author, A.J. Finn, was a man. The sensitivity with which he described Ana felt so feminine.
My only criticism was that the narrator, who otherwise did a fine job, expressed the voice of David, Ana's hunky male tenant who lived in her basement, sound like a middle aged Jewish woman from Brooklyn with a smoker's rasp.
I look forward to A.J. Finn's next novel.

I Almost Returned This Book
Revisado: 02-25-18
It started so slowly and I thought I had figured it out from nearly the beginning. It seemed like a romance novel. I continued listening only because I was in the car and didn't have any other books loaded into my iPod.
Finally it caught my attention about half way through and had a few twists I wasn't expecting, only to wind down back into the predictable, women's romance novel it started as.
Honestly couldn't recommend this book to anyone. But I do recommend the narrator. She's excellent.

44 Hours of Snores
Revisado: 01-17-18
One of the most boring books I've ever listened to. Why did I listen to all 44 hours? Because amidst all the lineages and minute descriptions of every possible thing and repetitions, I kept suspecting that something important was going to happen. I think it was because of the expression in the narrator's voice, which implied that one should pay close attention because Something Is Coming. That poor Kristin just eeked away her life and then she died.

Historia
In a ruined and toxic landscape, a community exists in a giant silo underground, hundreds of stories deep. There, men and women live in a society full of regulations they believe are meant to protect them. Sheriff Holston, who has unwaveringly upheld the silo’s rules for years, unexpectedly breaks the greatest taboo of all: He asks to go outside.

Tedious and Painful
Revisado: 06-07-17
Not only does this story go on and on and on with very little taking place, Amanda Sayle's attempt to do 'voices' for the characters is far below the quality I have come to expect with Audible. I know, I was warned by other reviewers. That is why I didn't return the book, because I didn't heed the warning so feel I am responsible for the choice I made.
But one of the most important male characters as well as another male character sound just like the Wicked Witch of the West when she says "...I'll get you, my pretty, and your little dog, too." Her normal narration voice is quite good but she should not be allowed to do men's voices. Add to that the extremely poorly written characters, the painfully slow moving plot, and the predictable outcome and I don't understand why anyone would subject themselves to the rest of the series.
