Perfect for modern day warriors, martial artist, and especially jiu jitsu practitioners. I've spent the past 14 years off and on training jiu jitsu, Judo and a few striking martial arts as well as the military. This book has changed my perception of the martial art from a sport like soccer, basketball, or football to something more noble and honorable. It has reframed my view of the barbaric sport of MMA (Vale Tudo) to something much more practical and honorable.

It was inspiring to hear the origin story of this martial art. The author does a wonderful job telling the story and bringing emotion to every chapter whether he is fighting in the streets of Brazil, Japan, or America he makes you feel the emotion and honor or disrespect that he's feeling and why he thinks it's necessary to answer with such a high level of violence. It's amazing how he's able to flip a switch and go from embracing nature to the willingness to fight to the death if necessary and then back to common serene with a new friend found inside of his old opponent.

If you want to learn more about jiu-jitsu, Judo, MMA, Vale Tudo, the Gracie's or just learn about what it takes to embody a true competitor or a modern-day warrior this is the book for you.

Thank you Mr Gracie.

Thank you for using your security clearance to give us a behind the scenes look at what happens. Everybody talks about BUDS but next to nobody knows what occurs after. I believe that this book helps paint a picture for anybody that wants to join the brotherhood a very clear and vibrant picture of what will be asked of you long after you make it through the infamous hell weak. To the rest of us that don't intend to sign up to pursue the trident it allows us to humble ourselves knowing what remarkable men are willing to do to join a special group of few that's willing to "cross the Rubicon." We are eternally grateful to those individuals that are willing to grapple with evil in the pits of Tartarus while we sleep comfortably in our beds at night oblivious.

much like men in green faces and Charlie Sheen's 1990s Navy seals movie I'm sure this book and the subsequent movie inspired many young men to want to be frogman. thank you sir

This is the book that started it all. It was because of this one book that inspired me as a dyslexic to want to read. 8 years and over 800 books later as a United States Navy veteran, a business owner, and a forever learner I have to say thank you Dick Couch. Perhaps none of the above would have happened if you hadn't had written this one book.

The book is very well written, it's very educational, it seems to stem directly from Rick Riordan without one key element, the action. The action does not seem to be at the same tempo as the Rick Riordan books. You can learn a lot about Hinduism from the story but the tempo of the book makes it easy to lose interest. It's for that reason after reading the first book and now the second I'm certain I won't continue to the third.

I really appreciate the author taken a well-beatened path by Rick Riordan and putting out not only an entertaining story but giving us knowledge about the religion. Though I thought the story was a bit slow compared to Magnus chase andPercy Jackson it was still good

If you love Brad Thor turn back now. The man has written many great books excluding books number 9 through 11 which are just okay but the Athena project May destroy your view of the author. This book was extremely difficult for me to make it through with past military experience.

What makes this book so unbearable is that the women behave more like high school cheerleaders then covert operators. If there wasn't so much banter between the cheerleaders (female special operatives) amongst one another it would have left room for action, his ability to weave modern technology, tactics, equipment, operational forces and his mastery of geography and world events. This is the reason why though I pride myself on nonfiction books I don't hesitate to throw his name around in the circle of my nonfiction readers.

Brad Thor's books 9 through 11 are questionable but this is where he starts to turn the corner and pick up that amazing writing that he has that I believe makes him legendary and puts him in the category with Tom Clancy. If you're reading this review and you haven't read Mark of the Athena by Brad Thor definitely skip it otherwise you may stop reading the series entirely. Out of the 20 books that I've read by Brad Thor Mark of the Athena definitely is one that made me want to quit the series. Books 9 through 11 we're hard to make it through but the rest of them are amazing. Thank you sir for giving this to the world.

I really enjoy Brad Thor's Scott horvath series but this book along with Mark of Athena leaves readers sloshing through pages hoping to find that thrill and enjoyment that the other books prior to this one bring but it's to no avail. Brad Thor is a wonderful writer despite what people may say about his first book, but this one makes it hard to see how good he truly is. My wife and I love his books but after this one she could no longer continue with the series.

I started running right before the military around age 16 and I've been running for over 14 years off and on. This book showed me that despite the tips that I picked up in that time I still had a lot more to learn and that there's nothing wrong with walking. I've never heard that before and never thought that it reshaped my view on what it means to be a runner. Thank you Amanda Brooks, and yes I am a runner. Regardless of the distance, regardless of the pace I am a runner. To anybody looking to learn more about the sport if you've never laced up running shoes or you just finished a marathon but you never had formal training this book will help you.
