inconsistent writing
Revisado: 10-08-24
over all I love the story but my lord Pedro leaves out important details. over the past 2 books. they suddenly don't know what lazguls magic is even though 5 books ago camu said it was nature... SMH. the complete lack of important details left out in conversations after the fact is like wth? literally just happened.... the group at some moments smart as can get and on the other hand dumb as hell. the story is good but Pedro either pumps these out too fast or AI is writing them.

getting good.
Revisado: 03-22-24
this series has grown on me. it's very good. 1st book was just ok. some of the main characters are really 1 dimension but I'll let it slide as the main ones Nilsa and Gurd aren't as frequent. nothing against the book or writing but the concept of blind obedience to the crown is so disgusting. but I get it. it's in real life also. no free thinkers lol. highly recommend. fantastic and interesting story.

finally getting good.
Revisado: 01-16-24
the first two books were ok. book 3 is where it takes off and separates itself from similar books. gurd amd nilsa are still painstakingly annoying and I could do without but w.e. overall good listen. narrator is superb and the store a bit more interesting now.

Historia
Charlie Reade looks like a regular high school kid, great at baseball and football, a decent student. But he carries a heavy load. His mom was killed in a horrific accident when he was seven, and grief drove his dad to drink. Charlie learned how to take care of himself—and his dad. When Charlie is seventeen, he meets a dog named Radar and her aging master, Howard Bowditch, a recluse in a big house at the top of a big hill, with a locked shed in the backyard. Sometimes strange sounds emerge from that shed.

fantastic listen
Revisado: 11-16-22
I'm not what you would call a Stephen King fan. I've never actually read or listened to his books up to this point. I am now a fan. this book was amazing and the performance was too notch. great story telling mixed with substance. I highly recommend.

fantastic story, mostly ..
Revisado: 09-08-22
I thoroughly love this series. I just chose it randomly partially because David Perkins was the narrator. he's literally the best. the story flows well. I didn't love how whiny the main character was but regardless loved just about every moment of it. highly recommend this series. the ending was fantastic as well.

Historia
Books 1, 2, and the prequel novella of the Fate's Forsaken series. The series follows the adventures of Kael: a young man who is thrust from his home in the Unforgivable Mountains and onto a hero's path. The journey is long, the battles are fierce - nearly all of his companions are outlaws. And Kael's rotten bad luck seems to make everything worse. This is his story.

Great Story sub par main character
Revisado: 06-30-22
I love Derek Perkins he's the best partly why I chose to get this. My only gripe is the way the main character Kael is written. he's a snot nosed juvenile who really had a piss poor attitude. now understand he's 17 but seriously I don't know anyone who acted like this kid. sure the bad things happen could push his personality but he's just shitty to people. if you got this far let me tell you once you get past that the story is great. it has engaging plot lines and a beautiful setting with adventure and magic. really cool concepts I wish I thought of lol. I do recommend this book.

enjoyable
Revisado: 01-19-22
I'll start off by saying the story is enjoyable. I like the world that was setup. I felt myself being drawn into the world as it was told. I did enjoy the narrator he's definitely quality. the 1 thing I absolutely despised by the juvenile nature of the maim character. I could hardly believe he was 6'2 and 17. he sounds and acted like a 10 year old. that is the only issue with the book really. just so over the top.

Great idea, awful execution
Revisado: 12-24-21
I'm new to litrpg books, with that said I did find the story moderately enjoyable. I have some issues though, that people will likely agree with.
1st. the author writes in a way that is equally parts annoying and noobish. I highly doubt he has any extensive knowledge related to playing RPGs successfully or MMOs for that matter. the concepts in the book are actually pretty good. just poorly executed. It's incredibly difficult to measure power when its glazed over, or given strange multipliers. If your familiar with MMOs you'll understand right away. about half way through he's level 14, enters a dungeon, defeats the dungeon, gets a load of exp and gold. Sure it's explained how, but it just talks about how many skill points he obtains, not what level he is. guessing roughly 25 or 30, but moves onto his class quest and it's like it's meant for someone maxed out. makes no sense. that's enough ranting though. I'll listen to the 3 free books with plus, but I won't be buying the additional unless they're severally discounted. the main character is just unlikable and he's a pud.
2nd. the narrator is not bad, he just isn't right for the book. lack of emotion or forced emotion really misses capturing or redeeming the poor story as a whole.

But he did luck into a NexGenVR capsule, which means Jack can risk a one-way trip to the world of Viridan Gate Online (V.G.O.), an ultra-immersive fantasy role-playing game. Taking that leap of faith, though, means permanently trapping his mind in the game and killing his body in the process.

Revisado: 12-19-21
I loved Accendant. I loved this book even more. the narrator really does bring this out into full bloom. the story isn't held up by long periods of boring writing. it's one thing after another for 23 hours, that is a marvel on its own. Michael Miller has a formula that's been used but seems to do it better than most. highly recommended.
