A tragic tale that will keep you listening
Revisado: 04-17-25
10/10 on all accounts. I didn’t expect this book to break my heart like it did, but here we are. I didn’t expect it to be even more tragic than The Hunger Games trilogy, yet it was. Definitely recommend.

I could never get into reading the HP books myself— I love the movies. Listening to the book on audio made me fall in love with it, too.

Great narration— semi-interesting plot
Revisado: 09-14-23
I’d never listened to or read anything by Tami Hoag before, so this audiobook was a shot in the dark.
I like listening to books while I’m working out, and this one was okay. I will say I was able to zone out for extended periods while listening to it and not miss any major points in the plot. The story can get a little wordy sometimes.
There were a few plot twists I didn’t expect, so that was a plus. Overall, it’s not terrible but it’s not the best I’ve ever listened to. It would be worth a credit if you’re looking for something to have going in the background.
The narrator was a highlight. Good range of voices for all the different characters and really came through with all of the witty dialogue between the detectives.

Historia
On a day that begins like any other, Hal receives a mysterious letter bequeathing her a substantial inheritance. She realizes very quickly that the letter was sent to the wrong person - but also that the cold-reading skills she's honed as a tarot card reader might help her claim the money. Soon, Hal finds herself at the funeral of the deceased...where it dawns on her that there is something very, very wrong about this strange situation and the inheritance at the center of it. Full of spellbinding menace and told in Ruth Ware's signature suspenseful style, an addictive thriller.

What I would call a slow burn
Revisado: 05-04-23
Not my favorite book by Ruth. In all fairness, I did listen to this one shortly after finishing The It Girl, which was a very edge-of-your-seat thriller type story. Even so, be prepared to not be waiting with baited breath to hear what happens next in this one.
My biggest complaint is that the resolution and "big reveal" wasn't really worth listening to the whole book.
Still, Ruth Ware books are pretty great and, while this one isn't her best, you probably wouldn't be too disappointed while listening. I just enjoy faster-paced books.

TERRIBLE narrator— don’t waste your credits on this one.
Revisado: 11-26-22
Please trust me when I say you will regret using your credits on this Lisa Gardner novel simply because the narration is 1000% dreadful. Trust me when I say you won’t get used to the monotone and robotic way the narrator has of speaking. I’m honestly flabbergasted trying to figure out how she’s even a narrator on here.
Using a credit on this one was a mistake. I listened to the sample and realized how awful it was. I came back to this one a few months later and, after reading the rundown of the story, used a credit to buy it without realizing my mistake.
Not only was it impossible to keep track of the story because I kept zoning out due to the narrator’s cadence of speech, her voicing of the different characters was highly annoying.
You’d be better off getting this book and reading it yourself.

Revisado: 11-24-22
Simone is a great author if you like traditional ghost stories. This is one of her better works as it’s fast paced.
My only negative feedback is her portrayal of Matthew Ryder. She makes him sound kind of like a big doofus.
Other than that, this one is a great story for a drive!

A fast-paced thriller from Lisa Gardner
Revisado: 08-30-22
This one had me hooked from the very start. It’s also the first one I’ve listened to that was narrated by this particular narrator and she did a phenomenal job!
I was able to guess who the “bad guy” was in a couple of the characters’ lives fairly quickly, but it was still an edge-of-your-seat story that will keep you hooked!
