Historia
It’s the eve of 1953, and Aloysius Archer is in Los Angeles to ring in the New Year with an old friend, aspiring actress Liberty Callahan, when their evening is interrupted by an acquaintance of Callahan’s: Eleanor Lamb, a screenwriter in dire straits. After a series of increasingly chilling events—mysterious phone calls, the same blue car loitering outside her house, and a bloody knife left in her sink—Eleanor fears that her life is in danger, and she wants to hire Archer to look into the matter. Archer suspects that Eleanor knows more than she’s saying.

Disappointing
Revisado: 06-04-22
I never thought I’d return a Baldacci novel. I found the female reader so difficult, i could listen no more. Turning the book. Maybe the dialog is time appropriate, but I lived at that time and don’t remember it. 28 chapters and still not far into the story. Disappointing.

Historia
Kay Willingham led a life as glamorous as it was public - she was a gorgeous Georgetown socialite, philanthropist, and the ex-wife of the vice president. So why was she parked in a Bentley convertible idling behind a DC private school, in the middle of the night, with the man who was the head of that school? Who shot them both, point blank, and why? The shocking double homicide is blazed across the internet, TV, newspapers - and across Alex Cross's mind. Kay had been his patient once. And maybe more.

Worst Cross story of all!
Revisado: 01-05-21
I’ve read or listened to all the Cross books. This was for me way before par. The story was a nothing and the narration was difficult. Returning for credit. I sincerely hope Patterson doesn’t do more in this vein. I thought several times throughout it sounded as if a novice novelist had penned it.

Historia
Mr. Kelly is a lonely old man who rents the same video over and over. The flick is a noir classic based on a real-life unsolved bank heist and a million missing dollars. It's called Manhattan Is My Beat. That's the tape Rune is picking up from Mr. Kelly's shabby apartment when she finds him shot to death. The police suspect a robbery gone wrong, but Rune is certain the key to solving the murder is hidden somewhere in the hazy, black-and-white frames of Mr. Kelly's beloved movie.

There is no short break...just a couple of seconds...between scenes where there is a change of scene. Same reader Mistress of Justice gives a short break between changes of scenes. Not having one is really irritating. If not paying attention all the time, if attention drops even a bit for at a scene change, I was lost and had to rewind to relisten. It got to be really a pain quickly. So production people, learn from this!

Patterson put his name to this?!
Revisado: 02-28-19
Terrible. The premise is unbelievable. I realize this is fiction, but there should be a ring of some truth to it. The narrator should be recording instruction manuals. His voice is not compatible with this kind of story. Sing-song, faulty inflections. I don't like returning books, so I worked my way through, but for me, it was nothing good at all!
Why in the world did James Patterson put his name on this one? Max has a lot to learn, but looks like he got no instruction from Patterson on this one!
I'll make sure not to get anymore Ziants-narrated books after this one.

good story, not so good reader
Revisado: 06-07-18
I liked the story. Guessed the traitor early. doubted it often, though. For me, Quaid was hard to listen to. voice too coarse, graveley. it was tense and the fake search for the let word at the end was good.

Drama Drama Drama
Revisado: 03-30-18
I have to admit, I've never been in a situation like the ones in this and the other two Culper Ring novels in bought with this one. Never will. But I think I'd not do in life threatening situations, as Beecher did, and not do what was smart for me without getting the info I want...info that could be conveyed while getting away or whatever. I didn't appreciate Brick's read, either. All the time, voicing anger, pressure, demands, intensity. Hardly a moment, even in moments of less tension, when he was less intense in his read. Finally, I can't count the times I was fed up with the "Are you listening to me," "You're not listening," or other equally repetitive exclamations.
I saw Meltzer on CBS's morning news program several weeks ago and thought, after all the praise he received, that I'd try him out. I bought his first three books. Now I have to see if I want to buy more. Not looking good right now.
I'm no literary critic. I read and listen to books that take me into situations that are not likely to happen, but have a ring of possible, characters that fit the situation and, in the case of audio books, readers that modulate to the situation. In my opinion, I didn't get any of those in the first three Culper novels.

When did Jack Reacher start using a watch?
Revisado: 01-12-18
I like Lee Child's Reacher character. In his most recent, he repeatedly makes a big deal that he always knows what time it is...even in wildly different time zones. In Tripwire, he twice looks at his watch (at least twice that I remember. Not that a big a deal. Had me stumped, though. I thought Hobie was Hobie. NOT! Maybe I should pay more attention.

Historia
From 1999 to 2009, U.S. Navy SEAL Chris Kyle recorded the most career sniper kills in United States military history. The Pentagon has officially confirmed more than 150 of Kyles kills (the previous American record was 109), but it has declined to verify the astonishing total number for this book. Iraqi insurgents feared Kyle so much they named him al-Shaitan ("the devil") and placed a bounty on his head.

While I appreciate the heroic actions and selflessness of Mr. Kyle, I almost returned the recording. Hard to say why. More an attitude of the author, I think.

Brick seemed not to be able to modulate voice in different circumstances. Kendrick always was, even when not in dire straits, talking as if in dire straits. Unfortunate. I almost stopped and returned. Kept going, though, and found the last third of the book pretty good.
