“Lost in the system”
Revisado: 08-31-24
Well written and true account of how the juvenile justice, (and education) system are severely broken in this nation. The inequities throughout the juvenile system is shameful. Those who are passionate and committed to working with the most troubled youth deserve our utmost respect. Schools that specifically support these youth with the necessary mental health supports should not be shut down. I write this review from my own personal teaching experience in these and other school environments. I watched in heartache as these youth have been, and continue to be repeatedly, “lost in our system.” We MUST do better!

Historia
Tiffany can't avoid being funny: it's just who she is. But The Last Black Unicorn is so much more than a side-splittingly hilarious collection of essays - it's a memoir of the struggles of one woman who came from nothing and nowhere. A woman who was able to achieve her dreams by reveling in her pain and awkwardness, showing the world who she really is, and inspiring others through the power of laughter.

Strength
Revisado: 08-09-22
I can only imagine that some, to many, have placed harsh judgment on the specific content, details and even the author of this book, Tiffany Haddish. Parts of this book were extremely difficult for me to listen to. We have to do better for children and their families living in areas where the privileges and supports that others have, are not experienced in these communities. For those who read or listen to this book, and have or are experiencing significant challenges in life, I do hope a renewed hope, strength and purpose is provided to continue to strive for success - whatever that might look like or be - after reading/listening to this book. Thank you for sharing your raw life experiences Tiffany Haddish. Great book!
