Soap Opera-ish
Revisado: 01-20-24
It was just okay for me . I have now read part 1 and 2 of this series. I liked them both but part 2 reads like a soap opera with a little bit of hood. Also, there's another cliffhanger at the end of this one, FYI

I am STRUGGLING...
Revisado: 01-03-24
I really wanted to like this novel, I simply cannot. I have listened to "wordy" books before but this one is driving me nuts! The narrator is terrible, it is hard to distinguish when she is depicting a male or female character. I should have returned the book several chapters ago. I was hoping that I would start to like it by chapter 10. I'm in chapter 29 now, still no such luck... I may as well listen to the end now...

A REAL struggle...
Revisado: 10-25-23
I am not done listening to this book yet but this is such a struggle for me. It took me a week to finish Part 1 and now I'm trying to get through Part 2. I have seen all of the great reviews for this book and I am a fan of Ca$h but it is VERY clear to me that this is some of his early work. Not much character development at all and very thin plots...Youngblood is smart but not methodical like he needs to be to get far in the game. The end of Part 1 proved that to be so (all of your $$ in one spot...and you got someone staying in your place and you're never there....um, ok...). I am an avid street novel reader and this one is very disappointing me.
Anyway, it's an okay listen to pass the time but I find myself getting annoyed with the main character more and more.
I read the Trust No Bi%^& trilogy a few years ago and I could not wait to get to next book as soon as I finished one. That book(s) is AWESOME, This one is just okay. I may agree with all of the other reviews had I not read his much better works before I stumbled upon this one.

I'm coming around...
Revisado: 07-14-23
Let me first say that I was anticipating this book because I am a BIG fan of the Professor & Bo Haynes series by this author so I had high hopes when I saw that there was a new series being introduced. I did not do a review for book 1 of the Jason Rich series from this author but we are on to book 2 now. This one was good/okay but not great. There were lots of things going on, enough to keep me interested. I was so excited when some of the characters from the aforementioned series made "cameo appearances" (Bo Haynes & Frannie), and others from that series were mentioned as well. I also appreciated the "nod" to author Greg Isles' Pen Cage series, as I am a big fan of his books as well.
I did not like how one person had an entire town in a "choke hold" and everyone seemed to live in fear of a 30yr old thug,,,REALLY? Still, I really enjoy the writing style of this author, It's not always everything tied up in a pretty bow and happily ever after at the end but you're not left without understanding what happed, even if you don't like what just happened.
The billboard lawyer is growing on me so I will be on the lookout for the next book. I want to see what will happen after the losses in life that he has experienced in these last 2 books because I still want to see him win.

Trash...
Revisado: 06-21-21
I do not understand the 4 and 5 star ratings for this book. Maybe if I were not such an avid reader of many genres I wouldn't be so harsh. I read/listen to documentaries, books about psychology, sociology, politics, religion...I enjoy a good urban fiction/street novel from time to time to break the monotony of the serious stuff; i.e. NeNe Capri, Wahida Clark, Ca$h, Shannon Holmes, Ashley & Jaquavis,...I have read a couple of book by this author before because he is always shouting out NC, where i am from as well.
However, this book seems to have a few plots that were started and never developed and just left hanging there sooo annoying!!...including the ending, What tha >>>

I just CAN'T...
Revisado: 06-15-21
I am on Chapter 7 and I have no idea what this book is about. There are waaaayyyy too many narrators and I haven't even heard them all, yet. The plot has not yet been introduced and we are still "meeting" new characters and learning each of their back stories and how they came to be employed in the court system or with the state as a janitor, or whatever...this book was included in my plus catalog and I am glad it was free. I added this book to my library yesterday (6/14/2021) and I will be removing it today (6/15/2021), as soon as I submit this review.

ummm...it's a NO for me!
Revisado: 04-29-21
Ok, so maybe me standards for certain genres of novels is very high but this was not even "okay" to me. I have read a lot of urban fiction/hood novels over the years and this one is very flat. Way too many unnecessary people were introduced into the story and they had no purpose. There were too many loose ends were left untied so if the author was going for a really good cliffhanger, it could have been done better than this. I don't even care if there is a part 2, which there shouldn't be. I read the 2 reviews before I purchased this and I do not know what they were reading, or maybe they didn't have any others to compare it to, but this is not a good read....and that pitiful so-called family reunion at the end...girl what?...Just LAME
I'm on to my next read; Ty Marshsall, please don't disappoint me like Mr. Hudson did.

Just okay...
Revisado: 04-05-21
It as an okay story, kept me somewhat entertained. I downloaded this books in the fall of 2020 and I now decided to listen to it all the way through after starting and stopping sooooo many times because of the narration. Today is April 5, 2021 so yeah, I was THAT annoyed. I could not immediately tell when the characters switched but the story itself was not bad.

Stupid book...
Revisado: 04-05-21
I am an avid reader of many genres from urban fiction, true crime novels, mysteries, history and philosophy, ect...I listen to "street novels/urban fiction" purely for entertainment usually on my lunch break or sometimes while I'm working, just for background noise. This book was not a pleasure to listen to at all. It did not flow well, the narrator got on my nerves but I struggled through that. Each chapter had something else going on, the jail break...the lady became paralyzed, then she wasn't, just a mess... There were so many "WTF; I don't understand" moments in this book. I was just so annoyed but I struggled through until the end, which was so stupid. I'm glad this book was included with my membership

When 26-year-old Reese accepts a position as a grad assistant, she has no idea an unpleasant encounter with a student will lead to the discovery of what she calls "the trifecta": fine, intellectual, and a little bit rude - three qualities she finds irresistible in a man. She has no intention of doing anything with that discovery. But everybody knows what happens to best laid plans. Jason is a grown man. He's at Blakewood State University to finish his degree and move on. The last thing he's interested in is the female population on campus...Reese might be a notable exception.

It's just "cute"...
Revisado: 02-12-21
I selected this book after reading The Culmination of Everything (Sugar Valley series), my very first read by this author. I was pleasantly surprised by that book and how it flowed. For entertainment, I usually read "street novels"; Wahida Clark, Ca$h, Ty Marshall, Keisha Ervin, KiKi Swinson,,,you get the idea. Every now and again I delve into a different genre just to change it up a little.
But this book here was NOT IT for me. It was very wordy, and I am starting to see that this author just writes in that style...I can get past that. This title seem to be more for a younger age group, maybe late teenager to early twenties. I found myself rolling my eyes often while listening. The narration was okay, except when the male narrator was speaking as the female. That was very annoying. Overall its not a bad book but if you have been an avid reader reader like myself for over 30 years this seems very childish and hard to listen to. I still think that the author is very talented, I just could NOT get into this.
