Historia
Robert Sapolsky’s Behave, his now classic account of why humans do good and why they do bad, pointed toward an unsettling conclusion: We may not grasp the precise marriage of nature and nurture that creates the physics and chemistry at the base of human behavior, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. Now, in Determined, Sapolsky takes his argument all the way, mounting a brilliant (and in his inimitable way, delightful) full-frontal assault on the pleasant fantasy that there is some separate self telling our biology what to do.

Poorly thought out
Revisado: 05-16-24
I started to keep a list of the logical fallacies presented in this book and conclusions drawn from considerably I sufficient information but it became too much work.
This is such s fascinating subject that I was disappointed in the unprofessional narmture of the argumentation and theory.
I would suggest you pass on this one.

Historia
Part memoir, part history, Burn Book is a necessary chronicle of tech’s most powerful players. This is the inside story we’ve all been waiting for about modern Silicon Valley and the biggest boom in wealth creation in the history of the world. When tech titans crowed that they would “move fast and break things,” Kara Swisher was moving faster and breaking news. While covering the explosion of the digital sector in the early 1990s, she developed a long track record of digging up and reporting the facts about this new world order.

Excellent material even from an extremist
Revisado: 03-28-24
The book is very well written and the audio is pleasant. This is well worth a read.
But there is so much left wing extremism oozing throughout. You have to ignore the malicious and obviously bad moral (can’t really be called that) conclusions. She takes the opportunity to demonize common moral behavior and parades all, and I mean all, political extremist ideas. So sad, she seems very smart.

Historia
Every generation, a journalist has looked deep into the heart of the nuclear military establishment: the technologies, the safeguards, the plans, and the risks. These investigations are vital to how we understand the world we really live in—where one nuclear missile will beget one in return, and where the choreography of the world’s end requires massive decisions made on seconds’ notice with information that is only as good as the intelligence we have. Pulitzer Prize finalist Annie Jacobsen’s Nuclear War: A Scenario explores this ticking-clock scenario.

Very good narrative
Revisado: 03-27-24
This is a book worth listening to. She goes through a compelling example of a nuclear war. Well written and researched.
The narrator, however, has some issues. She has a good clear voice, but also a propensity to mispronounce simple words such as submariner, -sino and a few others. It really detracts from some chapters. And please don’t use Russian words you can’t pronounce. Ouch.

Historia
In this characteristically turbocharged new book, celebrated Rolling Stone journalist Matt Taibbi provides an insider's guide to the variety of ways today's mainstream media tells us lies. In the internet age, the press have mastered the art of monetizing anger, paranoia, and distrust. Taibbi, who has spent much of his career covering elections in which this kind of manipulative activity is most egregious, provides a rich taxonomic survey of American political journalism's dirty tricks.

Revisado: 09-24-23
Matt brings up very good poi ts about the manipulative behavior of media and politicians. However, it is very difficult to listen to the very liberal agenda and pushing of narratives long since debunked.
There are better books to read without extreme political objectives. Read them instead.

A firsthand account from the blue-collar boy who grew up to take on Disney and Dr. Fauci, The Courage to Be Free delivers something rare from an elected leader: stories of victory. This book is a winning blueprint for patriots across the country. And it is a rallying cry for every American who wishes to preserve our liberties.

Sanity in a world being destroyed. This is a blueprint to do again what made this country great. Doing the will of the voters, not the will of corporations or the loud, few leftists.

Utterly not worth reading!
Revisado: 01-21-23
A perfect leftist worldview of the evil Americans, the heroes and strength of the greatest terrorists nation in the world (Iran) and the greatest hero, the third world nation of India saves the world through superior technology and moral strength.
Beyond the ridiculous progressive worldview, almost every technical aspect of tactics and strategy is incorrect. This only serves to perpetuate the narrative.
Don’t bother. Useless book and waste of my time. Such an excellent potential if a good plot destroyed by the narrow minded view of a leftist. The few authors published in todays world.

Zero day: a software bug that allows a hacker to break into your devices and move around undetected. One of the most coveted tools in a spy's arsenal, a zero day has the power to silently spy on your iPhone, dismantle the safety controls at a chemical plant, alter an election and shut down the electric grid (just ask Ukraine). For decades, under cover of classification levels and non-disclosure agreements, the United States government became the world’s dominant hoarder of zero days.

Good info - Leftist Nonsense
Revisado: 01-01-23
This book provides excellent information about infosec, both issues and history.
However, this NewTork Times writer uses every opportunity to put Ibama in a glowing light and parrot the many debunked lies about Trump and his cabinet.
This book. Takes a lot of effort to get through the political nonsense and lies to get to the gems of data.

We live in the age of the algorithm. Increasingly, the decisions that affect our lives—where we go to school, whether we can get a job or a loan, how much we pay for health insurance—are being made not by humans, but by machines. In theory, this should lead to greater fairness: Everyone is judged according to the same rules.

The charges of white privilege and systemic racism that are tearing the country apart fIoat free of reality. Two known facts, long since documented beyond reasonable doubt, need to be brought into the open and incorporated into the way we think about public policy: American Whites, Blacks, Hispanics, and Asians have different violent crime rates and different means and distributions of cognitive ability.

Historia
First published in 1846, Fyodor Dostoyevsky's novella The Double is a classic doppelganger story and the second major work published by the author. It is the story of Yakov Petrovich Golyadkin, a government clerk who believes that a fellow clerk has taken over his identity and is determined to bring about his ruin. Considered the most Gogolesque of Dostoyevsky's works, the novella brilliantly depicts Golyadkin's descent into madness in a way that is hauntingly poetic. The Double illustrates Dostoyevsky's uncanny ability at capturing the complexity of human emotion.
