I thoroughly enjoyed _The Liar's Girl_ by Catherine Ryan Howard. An engaging whodunit which held my attention so that I binge-listened to the entire book in one day. Even though I was certain that I had it all figured out, I totally did NOT… especially not that twist at the end!
Fantastic storytelling, performed by excellent narrators. Highly recommend for those of you who, like me, read series almost exclusively - this one makes a great palate cleanser for killing time while waiting for the next book in your current series to drop. Read im this one!

Welcome to the Misfit Mob... It's where Police Scotland dumps the officers it can't get rid of but wants to: the outcasts, the troublemakers, the compromised. Officers like DC Callum MacGregor, lumbered with all the boring go-nowhere cases. So when an ancient mummy turns up at the Oldcastle tip, it's his job to find out which museum it's been stolen from. But then Callum uncovers links between his ancient corpse and three missing young men, and life starts to get a lot more interesting.

What a great read!
Revisado: 02-21-19
Unfamiliar with the author, I decided to try this standalone novel. I'm so glad I did! The case is a good one, and the characters have depth, with messy, complex personal lives. I was surprised and delighted to discover the author's wit and found myself actually laughing out loud more than once. Absolutely loved this book, looking forward to checking out the other work by this author.

Historia
Charley Davidson, Grim Reaper extraordinaire, is pissed. She’s been kicked off the earthly plane for eternity - which is the appropriate amount of time to make a person stark-raving mad. But someone’s looking out for her, and she’s allowed to return after a mere hundred years in exile. Is it too much to hope for that not much has changed? Apparently it is. Bummer.

WHY DOES IT HAVE TO BE OVER? WHYYY‽
Revisado: 01-18-19
This series could genuinely go on forever. Beep still has to grow up! Her parents are immortal gods! She could chill with the departed who hang around her parents, NOT TO MENTION Artemis, we don't even have a tiny understanding of HER powers, etc.
What I'm trying to say here, basically, is just: Waaaaaah!

Anna Fox lives alone - a recluse in her New York City home, unable to venture outside. She spends her day drinking wine (maybe too much), watching old movies, recalling happier times...and spying on her neighbors. Then the Russells move into the house across the way: a father, mother, their teenaged son. The perfect family. But when Anna, gazing out her window one night, sees something she shouldn't, her world begins to crumble. And its shocking secrets are laid bare.

Sharp, Witty, and Sarcastic in the Best Way.
Revisado: 10-15-17
I absolutely loved this book. The dialogue is sharp, funny, and reads the way my seventeen year old daughter and her friends actually speak. This is a book about strong women starting over as a blended family, and their trunkloads of baggage. Teenage stepsisters, high school warfare, girlfriends, boyfriends... and death. You know what else? HILARITY. I laughed out loud more reading this book than probably any other in 2017.
Big props for the total normalcy with which queer characters just HAPPEN to be queer - it's not the main plot, it's not even the sub- or sub-subplot... it's simply an aspect of the characters' lives. Which, yk, is how being queer in real life ACTUALLY goes.
Genuinely enjoyed Dead Little Mean Girl, and excited now to tuck in to the author's other works!

Historia
Smart, hilarious, and incisive, the Liberal Rednecks confront outdated traditions and intolerant attitudes, tackling everything people think they know about the South - the good, the bad, the glorious, and the shameful - in a laugh-out-loud funny and lively manifesto for the rise of a New South. Home to some of the best music, athletes, soldiers, whiskey, waffles, and weather the country has to offer, the South has also been bathing in backward bathroom bills and other bigoted legislation.

Historia
In a future so real and near it might be now, something happens when women go to sleep: They become shrouded in a cocoon-like gauze. If they are awakened, if the gauze wrapping their bodies is disturbed or violated, the women become feral and spectacularly violent; and while they sleep they go to another place.... The men of our world are abandoned, left to their increasingly primal devices. One woman, however, the mysterious Evie, is immune to the blessing or curse of the sleeping disease.

Easy listening
Revisado: 03-01-17
Write to Die is a fun, lightweight, easy listen. Entertainment lawyers caught up in a criminal trial who are consistently confounded by the antics of a new associate with a license to carry and a mysterious past. If you're looking for a hair-raising crime mystery, this is not it. If you, like me, are a fan of multi-book intense murder mysteries, this book makes a nice palate cleanse in between series.

Pointless Waste Of Time
Revisado: 05-15-14
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
I... don't think anybody will enjoy it more. Someone reading book #13 in a series will be reading it to continue the story. This book was so boring it invented new ways to be boring I had no idea could even exist. By book 13, either know your characters well enough to write them well, or know your audience well enough to understand how the reader will react to a void in the story we've been reading for 12 enjoyable novels. This contained no character development, no suspense, no surprise, nothing to connect with the listener and no reason to exist at all. Brady is a major player in this book, but we still know nothing more about him than we did before, other than a totally impulsive and out of the blue decision at the beginning of the book. Everybody else remains entirely the same, in the same kind of situation, with the same struggles, the same jobs... nobody even seems to have aged - even baby JULIE. Man. Just... huge waste of time.
What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?
The performance was fine; Ms. LaVoy turned in good character representations as per her usual.
