Philippe Gregory' s writing shines through
Revisado: 01-16-23
Marvelous! Having been a Philippe Gregory fan for many years, I have hesitated to branch out into her "other than Tudor" novels. How wrong I have been! This novel kept my interest because of rich character development and a well-researched time period. Try it. It may open doors for you that were previously unimaginable.

If you can get through the first 3 Chapters,
Revisado: 08-20-22
The first three chapters consist of constant navel-gazing that gets old by mid-chapter 2. YOU do get the storyline, but I almost gave up and returned it.
A truer review of the story would be 2 stars for chapters 1 - 3, followed by 4 stars for the rest. overall, a good read worth your time.

Loved the Alternative Point of View
Revisado: 11-08-20
Who ever thinks about the family that surrounded Wm. the Conqueror? This author was able to get into a possible frame of mind of Wm., but more importantly, into the reasoning of his wife, Matilda. Believable characters complete with both strengths and their weaknesses.
