What did you love best about 7 Secrets of Highly Successful Coaches?

This is not for an experienced coach, but for someone about to begin, or someone with initial experience, but looking to compare against their own way of doing things. It is well structured, and even has some good suggested coaching session formats over a period of up to 12 weeks from memory. Simple, to the point, and had process and ideas which could be replicated.

What did you like best about this story?

Simplicity and structure and coaching plans for up to 12 sessions.

Have you listened to any of Lyn Kelley’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes. My review on Lyn's 'How to Become a Business/Corporate Coach' was very critical and so I had low expectations when moving on to this book, but was very pleasantly surprised due to the content contained as outlined above. Lyn also did a very poor job as narrator of the other book, but this time I thought it was pretty good. She had no echo in the background, read the book using pauses and changing the tone of her voice. This made a huge difference.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Pretty well much. It's quite short, and I wanted it to keep going. However, the key points were covered well, making it a quick and valuable read.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

Its too basic, starting assuming no understanding of employee engagement etc. Some of it talks about HR 101 rather than coaching.

What do you think your next listen will be?

I'm listening to Lyn's book of 7 secrets of coaching success.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Lyn Kelley?

Lyn is not the best narrator, and that's OK as I wouldn't expect authors be the best on vocals. Its quite a different profession. I would recommend Lyn arrange for someone with good narrating reviews (female) to do the narration. If Lyn you still wish to narrate, please just slow down and pause momentarily between ideas, paragraphs and when emphasising something. That alone will really enhance the interest of the reader and lead them more at crucial times.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from How to Become a Corporate/Business Coach?

Too much HR 101 and engagement stuff at the beginning. I was looking for more on the process of coaching, not environmental factors. The section on 7 ways to sabotage oneself was a really good chapter. I found it useful and made my $5 purchase worthwhile. If more of the book had similar deep and substantive process, this book would have been rated highly. Clearly Lyn can turn it on when she wants, so hopefully future books I will read of Lyn's will do this.

Any additional comments?

I'm amazed the only other reviewer of this book has given 5 stars not only to this, but to 5 other books of Lyn which constitutes 60% of all their reviews. Clearly my learning style is very different to this amazing reviewer.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

Non repetition of case, after case, after case. No content on what was done with each case, other than what the learning disability was, and what was the outcome because of her school. It felt like blatant advertising to me, with no substance, which is a disappointment because it actually sounded transformational.

What do you think your next listen will be?

Getting more on the science of changing the brain and reading about it. Not having to go to a school to find out.

How could the performance have been better?

Less advertising of her school and more around what the cognitive activities were

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

First chapter or two were fascinating. New content to me and really got me interested....until I got to the never ending sales pitch. A real let down. Even my 15 year old son picked up before me as we listened in the car that this was blatant advertising without giving away any detail about 'how'.

Any additional comments?

Content, content, content, not sales, sales, sales.

Is it moral to read Hamilton's Book?

What did you love best about The Secret Race?

Complete and shocking truth about widespread drug usage from the early 90s. Many famous riders are named in this book. But a moral dilemna given Nicole Cooke's recent retirement speech as follows: "Tyler Hamilton will make more money from his book describing how he cheated than Bessette or I will make in all our years of our honest labour. The situation requires the very basics of morality. Please don't reward people like Hamilton with money. That is the last thing he needs. Donate his literary prize and subsequent earnings from such publications to a charity. There are many places infinitely more deserving than the filthy hands of Hamilton."

What other book might you compare The Secret Race to and why?

'Its Not About the Bike' - It's about Lance, as much as about Hamilton himself. Maybe a bit too much Lance in this book, but interesting nevertheless and topical.

Which character – as performed by Sean Runnette – was your favorite?

Jens Voigt - "I'm looking at the wheel in front of me".

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

'Vampires in the Peleton'
