Historia
Evan Smoak is a highly trained former government assassin who has survived for years by keeping his circle to a few trusted confidants and a strict code he calls “The Ten Commandments.” But when Evan suddenly finds himself at odds with his oldest friend, all the rules he lives by shatter—and the consequences are murderous. Tommy Stojack might be Evan's best friend in the world. He’s a gifted gunsmith who has created much of Evan's own weapons and combat gear. But now, he has apparently crossed one of Evan's hardest lines and their argument explodes into open warfare.

Every now and then "They Are Not Like Us"
Revisado: 02-14-25
Disregarding current music for a minute, Nemesis is a continuation of the excellence of Gregg Hurwitz. The listener gets to see a more gentle side of Orphan X in some aspects. This is not to imply that the Orphan X listeners appreciate is not present throughout the audiobook. Mainstay characters, Tommy and Joey also serve to focus the listener's attention on Orphan X. If you are familiar with the Orphan X series you will probably make tis purchase because the wait is over. If however you are looking for an exceptional stand alone listen; this is the one for you.
I don't know how Scott Brick does it,, but he continues to meet the standard of performance excellence that few others approach.
As an aside, I am a Rottweiler person, but I might be coaxed to exchange mine for Dog; if that were possible.

Historia
The girl group sound, made famous and unforgettable by acts like The Ronettes, The Shirelles, The Supremes, and The Vandellas, took over the airwaves by capturing the mixture of innocence and rebellion emblematic of America in the 1960s. But while the songs are essential to the American canon, many of the artists remain all but anonymous to most listeners. But Will You Love Me Tomorrow?: An Oral History of 60s Girl Groups tells a national coming-of-age story that gives particular insight into the experiences of the female singers and songwriters who created the movement.

If you remember the girl groups and/or always wanted to learn about them this is the audiobook for you. Granted, it may not be for everyone; but it remains an undeniable documentation of musical history. As I listened to the audiobook I smiled and had the urge to download some of the music mentioned by the narrators. This is an informative and entertaining book.

Make no mistake
Revisado: 08-12-23
Richard North Patterson's audiobook the Trial addresses politics and race. Trial contains unforeseen twists, that add to exciting and thoughtful aspects of the story. Characters are vividly portrayed in this audiobook. Spoiler Alert: For example, Allie Chase, who through no fault of his own, is an absentee father, Jabari Ford, the astute attorney, Malcolm the conflicted adolescent, Wilson, Janie, Judge Tilley, Deputy Bullock, Sheriff Garrett, Harris and others. Each character serves to draw you into the story and compels you to listen. I found myself caring about the characters and imagining how they would manage their lives in the audiobook future.
William DeMeritt does a wonderful job of narration, The audiobook is a great listen that sensitively, yet forthrightly, addresses the volatile topics of politics and race, the frailties of human interactions, and masterfully wrapped it in a cloak of suspenseful writing.

An Extraordinary Listening Challenge
Revisado: 08-08-23
David Joy has written a thoughtful and intriguingly book suspenseful book that also explores a challenging topic (Spoiler Alert racial issues) in a non threatening/non preachy way. The two main protagonists must confront the impact of the death of a strong character in the story on their lives. The beauty of this story involves the many twists and surprises contained in the audiobook. The characters in the story are well formed and the suspense and character resolve is amazing. Macleod Andrews does a masterful job as narrator and really brings the story to life. I think we all have purchased an audiobook we wished we had not; this audiobook is not such a purchase. You will be thankful that you purchased Those We Thought We Knew. You should give yourself this gift.

Get Ready
Revisado: 03-22-23
I am a difficult grader. In truth the overall grade for this book is probably five stars. Spoiler alert Amy is a cross section of Renee Ballard, Jack Reacher, and the Nowhere Man. The authors have infused the story with so much suspense and just when you decide you know where the story is going and what the character will do, there is a surprise. I still have not determined if Jeremy is a good guy. In Amy, Mr. Patterson and Mr. DuBois have created a character who is human and mission-driven and you find yourself rooting for her. There is little doubt that you will be drawn into the story and find it hard to put down.
I think Amy will have a long life and the next book, if there is one, will be even better. My personal request, is that there is a follow-up/continuation. Her story deserves one. Please consider investing one credit for a great book.

Historia
The events of that day are now tragically familiar: on May 25, 2020, George Floyd became the latest Black person to die at the hands of the police, murdered outside of a Minneapolis convenience store by White officer Derek Chauvin. The video recording of his death set off the largest protest movement in the history of the United States, awakening millions to the pervasiveness of racial injustice.

The Struggle Continues
Revisado: 07-07-22
Some of us are emotionally related to the issue of racial justice and some of us are simply overwhelmed by the continual of struggle, but all of us have a responsibility to be informed. Robert Samuels and Toluse Olorunnipa have written a well-researched and intellectually/emotionally honest text about George Floyd and the often non-negotiable issues associated with poverty, fidelity to friends, family, encounters with police/the justice system in the context of being black in America. This audiobook is candidly written and informative. Dion Graham performed masterful and sensitive narration. Listeners should be prepared to experienced sudden well-springs of emotion. George Floyd is depicted in a way that his integrity is manifest. I highly recommend this audiobook.

Historia
A masterful, moving novel about age, memory, and family from one of the literary icons of our time. Ptolemy Grey is 91 years old and has been all but forgotten - by his family, his friends, even himself - as he sinks into a lonely dementia. His grand-nephew, Ptolemy's only connection to the outside world, was recently killed in a drive-by shooting, and Ptolemy is too suspicious of anyone else to allow them into his life. Until he meets Robyn, his niece's 17-year-old lodger and the only one willing to take care of an old man at his grandnephew's funeral.

Thought Provoking Novel with Heart
Revisado: 03-20-22
Walter Mosely has written a classic novel that operates on multiple levels of the human experience. Ptolemy Grey, the 91-year-old central figure of the novel reflects/represents/underscores an array of life experiences/insights that include the domains of dementia, familial relationships, fear, self-serving exploitation, trust in individuals, racial antagonism, human caring and retribution. The book's characters are developed well and reflect individuals and situations that are readily recognizable. The beauty of this book is that the reader will probably identify many more levels in addition to having one or more personal experiences of his/her own.
Mr. Mosely is undoubtedly best known for his Easy Rawlings series, yet Ptolemy Grey exceeds expectations due to his status as an elder and the wisdom/insight he has garnered over time. There exists the very real possibility that once the reader begins to read the novel, he/she will be unable to put it down. When you find yourself in this situation (welcome to the club). I would be remiss if I did not also mention the narrator's contribution in making this exceptional novel come to life. The purchase of this novel is a gift to the reader and certainly worth the listen.

If Only it Were True
Revisado: 09-09-21
A Gambler's Jury is a remarkable listen. The book is insightful to the extent it affords the reader/listener an opportunity to see the legal system in action; flaws and all, without being "preachy". The listener is transported into the story and actually experience what the protagonist does and understand her mindset and what prompts her to act the way she does. The book skillfully operates on two levels, the legal realm and the emotional "How could they?", realm. The book is definitely worth a listen...enjoy.

Historia
Over the course of less than 24 hours in the spring of 1921, Tulsa’s infamous “Black Wall Street” was wiped off the map - and erased from the history books. Official records were disappeared, researchers were threatened, and the worst single incident of racial violence in American history was kept hidden for more than 50 years. But there were some secrets that would not die. A riveting and essential new book, The Ground Breaking not only tells the long-suppressed story of the notorious Tulsa race massacre.

A thoughtful and challenging listen
Revisado: 05-30-21
Scott Ellsworth chronicled the history of the Black Wall Street Massacre (BWSM) in a way that can be digested by the listener/reader although the subject matter is by turns: heartbreaking, challenging, insightful, complex, and necessary for a lucid understanding of the BWSM. The book is a must read for those of us who did not actually live through the BWSM.
Mr. Ellsworth is a historian who has made a concerted effort to tell the story objectively by furnishing the listener/reader a factual account based on historical data and oral history. Adenrele Ojo has gifted the reader/listener with her usual stellar performance making difficult material less painful. In essence this book is truly a highly recommended and informative worthwhile listen.
