When all is lost there is laughter
Revisado: 04-03-25
Author’s witty sense of humor throughout this story is a reminder that life is serious but doesn’t have to be taken so seriously. Fascinating story.

I didn’t know bridesmaid was code for babysitter for the bride’s brother, but if that’s what my best friend needs of me for her dream wedding to go off without a hitch, that’s what I’ll do. Even if Theo Monroe has been a pain in my rear since third grade. Even if he should be responsible enough to not wreak havoc at his sister’s destination wedding.

Historia
Hockey coach Ashley Jaswal doesn't take nonsense from anyone … except her overbearing and superstitious family. They believe she's a good luck charm for her brother Jas, the newest Vancouver Canucks draft pick, forcing Ash to attend all his games as he rises up the NHL ranks, sacrificing her personal life (not that she has one—who decided hockey season needed to be 10 months long anyway?). Ash also clashes with Jas’s teammate, Canucks captain Devin Snyder.

Realistic portrayal of the complexity of life, love and forgiveness!

Portrayal of the Punjab family dynamic is real. Nice juxtaposition of old world, love and loyalty next to contemporary love, compromise and the same fierce loyalty.

Messy, just like life
Revisado: 11-30-24
An enigma within a puzzle within a conundrum! Some things you can’t take your eyes off of otherwise you miss something with this one you can’t take your ears off of it for a second with any distraction otherwise you’d have to go back to the previous chapter and listen all over again to the point where you caught yourself. So much human mess of emotion, trauma and bad behavior. Nothing tidy about this at all. It all makes sense in the end and yet for you as a reader figuring it all out won’t bring you happiness and relief. The fun and the thrill of this was all in the in between. Pretty much like, life.

Riveting! Funny! Tragic! Affirming!
Revisado: 10-31-24
What a fire cracker little Dutchess is throughout this novel. We all wish we could have a little of her outlaw-boldness and her bravery in dishing out justice, regardless of the consequences.

This was just a nice light end of summer-vacation read. Fun, quirky characters — We all know at least one of them in real life! At times, I was unsure of the decade in which the author was setting the novel because of some of the outdated references. However, it didn’t take away much from the story.

Emerson, Georgia, and Marley have been best friends ever since they met at a weight-loss camp as teens. When Emerson tragically passes away, she leaves one final wish for her best friends: to conquer the fears they still carry as adults. For Marley, it's coming to terms with the survivor's guilt she's carried around since her twin sister's death, which has left her blind to the real chance for romance in her life. For Georgia, it's learning to stop trying to live up to her mother's and brother's ridiculous standards and learning to accept love.

Instructing and illuminative even in its funniness
Revisado: 09-08-24
This funny book brought me awareness into the world of struggle and pain —both emotional and physical of the morbidly obese and overweight. Our sometimes cruel world is even more cruel and unfair to fat people in so many way that most of us just accept, and yes, at some point have all participated in ourselves. A great story about the ebb and flow of female friendships and the deep unshared secrets that can trouble and define a person and shape how they see & treat themselves even. Every single character in the book obviously needs therapy….as do many of us mere mortals.

Excitement from start to finish
Revisado: 09-04-24
Not sure what to make of the author’s post apparent hatred of religion, anything biblical and God, except to say that the frequent rants throughout the book against any of the previous were distracting and added nothing to the story.
