A werewolf tale like I’ve never read. A determined young woman whose perseverance to rid herself of a terrible disease lead her into a world full of natures bounty for healing, revitalizing and renewing the body. But there were poisons she experimented with as well. She had developed creams, candles, elixirs and herbals mixes she sold in her shop. But for more than a decade stayed far from people after she had been bitten by a beast that passed on his curse.
When she met the man she instantly recognized as her mate she tried to draw back , but Gabe knew exactly what he wanted from Simone, her love and a lifetime together. Would he stay when he learned of the cursed disease that held her hostage during every full moon. I enjoyed the narrator and the story Nora Roberts told. One I will listen to again.

Listening with a different ear to Peter Pan

Listening to Peter Pan’s story with a different ear also gave me a whole new perspective of the characters and Neverland’s magical hold it has always held sway over.

Ava and Belle are sisters but through love and not blood. When Belle becomes the lost one and is unable to control the shadows within her she heads back to Neverland but unwillingly brings Ava with her. In her search for Belle/Tinkerbell and an escape back to what she believes is her home Ava will hear a different story about Peter Pan, his magic and his life. She will meet a truly different Hook, his crew and the mermaids and how they have all been changed under the cruel magic of Pan. The Neverland and her characters that Casey L. Bond has reimagined is dark and whereas Hook is certainly not what you would expect in a hero, he certainly isn’t the villain he has been portrayed to be. Nor is Peter Pan a lost loving boy. Both have grown to manhood.

Casey has opened up Neverland in her descriptive world building and even included a city on water that could be a poor relation to Venice, Italy, but more a city of refuge with shops, questionable entertainment and rickety homes. A safe holding out of Pan’s reach.

I have reviewed the book on Goodreads and Amazon, so I won’t go into great detail here, so much as to talk about the audio version, which I drank in. If Casey gives us the words to see Neverland, Raven Wildwood’s voice brought it wiggling to life for me. When a storyteller shares aloud you won’t have to try to decode the words on a page. It frees us to simply let our imagination carry us away, to picture the story in our mind’s eye. Raven did a grand job of telling this tale aloud and I could easily listen, while quickly assimilating all parts of the story. For me she was Ava’s voice. Her portrayal of other characters was well done but I missed the deeper tones of some of the men’s voices, Hook’s in particular.

Other than having dual voices in the audio, there isn’t anything, in my mind, that could make hearing it more engaging, as I can hear the emotions of the characters, picture the scenes she details and in the end, bleed and hope for the characters. I highly recommend that the book be read and then listen to this beautifully constructed and executed tale.

This is the end. The battle continues to the bitter finish, Caroline stumbles and Queen Kel is always one step ahead. No matter what, surrendering herself and her people isn't an option, nor can she leave Bodey to his fate. Functioning on a competent level without her mate beside her is taking its toll on Caroline.
Pain, sorrow, loss, fear and anger as the story picks up from “Eclipsed Heart”, Bodey is in the cruel hands of Queen Kel. She demands Caroline surrender herself, to relinquish her crown, and turn her people over to Queen Kel’s rule. Caroline would gladly trade herself for Bodey to stop his pain, to save him, but she knows Queen Kel would simply kill them both. She is not to be trusted. So many mistakes; so many of her people have perished, the cost of battling someone as unprincipled and evil as Queen Kel is taking its toll. But the traitor in their midst has cost Caroline trust in her own decisions and perhaps the trust of some of her people.
There is ongoing action, loss of friends, uncertainty of how to defeat Queen Kel without losing those closest to Caroline or even more of her people. Becoming Queen isn't easy; she has taken too many missteps, Kel is winning. As I listened to Lila Winters narration, I got pulled further into a story whose characters and plight had already become part of my book family, ones I love. Now I felt like I was living it, walking side by side with those fighting for those they love, their reality and their very lives. Lila Winters has a slightly husky intonation in her voice that helped me envision not only the characters but what they are feeling at the time. Her voice is clear, her pace well done. I had no problem hearing, understanding, or following along with her, even while driving in my car with outside sounds. If you enjoy paranormal romance with spice, drama, action and suspense this is one to spend time with.

The narrator is good. She has a strong voice, good pitch, and infection when speaking for different characters. All this makes for easy listening, while following along with the tale. The story kept me on my toes and stirred me up.
Callie had no memory of her early years of about four. As a shifter she is one of the weakest. Although she has never been able to let her wolf free to run, her smart mouth and determined attitude won’t allow her to back down from a fight even when she is outnumbered. For years she has been forced to do the worst jobs within the pack and bullied by all. So, when she is found beyond the boundaries set by Zack, her arrogant, abusive Alpha, by five members of her pack, including her adopted sister, she runs. The five, all in wolf form give chase, intending to make sport of her. In her human form Callie doesn’t have a chance of escaping them. Back against a tree, Callie stands up to the five refusing to be submissive, infuriated they relentlessly attack her. She may well have perished if not for the four wolves from outside her pack step in the fray and drive off her attackers.
The leader is Bodey, a powerful Alpha of the territory and a friend of the future King. As sending off the five, Bodey and his companions bring Callie to their home to assist with her healing. Unfortunately, for some unknown reason, Zack wants her back under his control. Fearing for the treatment of her family and herself if she doesn’t return voluntarily, still not completely healed, Callie returns to her pack. Bodey is drawn to Callie and watches over her. All the while trying to assure himself and his friends it is simply because she has been so mistreated. Standing against Zack, a continuous, mean spirted leader at this time isn’t a smart idea. The packs were once watched over by a King and Queen, but they died seventeen years ago, and Steven, their son, will finally come of age to rule in two weeks. The Queen of an adjoining territory has long coveted the neighboring territory but with a new King about to be crowned, she will make her move to get what she wants by killing him and his most powerfully Alphas.
The story is fast paced. For the first part I had to keep myself moving since I wanted to get my hands on Callie’s bullies, along with her family members who were less than supportive. Though some of Callie’s problems may come to a conclusion more will come forth. In the continuing tale Callie will have others including a mate to stand by her. The tale ends with a cliffhanger, so get ready for more suspense, romance, danger, betrayal and hopefully answers to questions I was asking myself. I can easily recommend this for your reading enjoyment and a good read. The e-edition will be available on Friday September 15th.

Grace was a writer. Her stories brought people to life, told tales of murder and mayhem. She was direct, edgy and loved her family. Her sister on the other hand was almost emotionless, she never returned the affection Grace had for her, she couldn’t. It just wasn’t in her her range of any kind of feelings. So when Kathy, separated from her wealthy husband and set out to gain the funds to take her son away from the man, she did it in the most effective way. She became a voice on the phone to satisfy the desires of men, through a phone service.
Grace had come to spend time with her sister to get closer, but that stopped suddenly when she found Kathy’s murdered body. Grace couldn’t just let the police handle it, she had to get involved. Just as she couldn’t stop herself from getting involved with Detective Ed Jackson.
Ed is a strong distinctive character, he doesn’t smoke, drink sugary stuff, eats heathy and has a plan for his life and future family that Grace is about to totally wreck. I loved the interaction between all the characters, the open mystery that still lands the reader on the edge of their seat. Nora Roberts simply has a way with stories that sucks you in and Carrie’s you along. The narrator never missed a beat.

The first time Boyd Wolf saw Audrey Ames he knew she was his mate and his days of roaming were over. Convincing her would take time, convincing Rob his brother and the pack’s alpha might mean he would have to leave the pack because he wasn’t give Audrey up. After he’d caused his parents death when he was twelve, ruining Rob’s chances of going to college and forced in the the alpha roll, Boyd ran from the pack the minute he left high school. For the last decade he’d rode the rodeo circuit, for was a reigning champion. He had to find away to tell Audrey about shifters but by pack law he was forbidden. Along with some jealous sniping at her from another female shifter, Audrey had her doubts about how serious Boyd was about them. A problem with a city slicker wannabe rancher started making noises about shooting wolves may roll over into other books in the series.
I enjoyed the characters and their romance along with a bit of angst that came up from outside interference. Heads up It is a very spicy romance, but a good read. The narrator was fairly good as Audrey, but was a bit perky for Boyd.

You can’t let one rotten experience define you, but Jackson had. After his engagement to a beautiful opportunist feel through, he refused to allow himself become serious about another woman no matter how good she appeared. Inside he dated only good time Susie’s and got a reputation for himself of being a good bed partner. He was a hard working rancher with ideas for expansion of the ranch he and brother owned. He’s brother was a writer of some renowned non-fiction writer and he just hired a doctorate student to help with his research. Jackson had reason to want to suspect her as someone looking to advance herself on the tail end of his brother’s popularity. After all she was beautiful, intelligent and unattached. Why else would she give up a summer to close herself in to do research and writing if she wasn’t expecting to get something out of it, more than a pay check. Even worse, once his kissed her there was no way that he could believe her innocent.
The narrator did a very good job of pacing and intoning the book’s characters and storyline. I enjoying listening to the story, It was easy to figure out who the Gillian was, the reason a bit of a twist. Jackson may seem a bit pushy when romancing Callie, but one statement clarified it for me. Yes he wanted a relationship with but told her it would only happen when she chose the right time.

As I have come to expect with Tanya Anne Crosby’s books, this held surprises I didn’t see coming. Strong characters, thrown together in situations that tried patience, begged understanding of harsh actions of the time period, and questions if love can grow where distrust and hatred first tread.
Their father was dead. Killed on the field of battle for a lost endeavor or was he betrayed? Henry, King of England was bound to win if for nothing more then by the shear numbers that sided with him. The Silver Wolf was the greatest of his champions and had never been bested. Nor would this battle be any different.
After learning of their father’s death, his daughters, Adelaide and Chrestien, traveled to neighboring Montagneaux castle to marry Adelaide to Lord Aleth, while Chrestien would than join the nunnery, La Trinity. In truth the ladies were almost identical twins, with very different temperaments. Chrestien, always her father’s favorite, had a temperament that did not bode will for a peaceful marriage, and he had wished her safe. After seeing her sister wed, Chrestien was headed for La Trinity when she and her sad troop of villagers were set upon. Weston, The Silver Wolf, on his way to Lontaine castle stepped in to save them, but was seen by the tattered group as yet another enemy and they fought back. Dressed as a young man, Chrestien, was taken prisoner. It wouldn’t be long before Weston realized his mistake and would offer to take her to the nunnery himself with The King’s permission, but Henry had other ideas.
I felt the story’s bite of the harsh times, tasted it’s sadness and hoped for a bit of love to sweeten the tale.
Even so, I enjoyed it very much. There was a small part towards the end for me that was a bit hard for me to logically go along with, hence the four stars. But this won’t stop me from enjoying the story again.
Note: One review mentioned they thought that Chrestien had been raped. However, this was not the case, pg 132, as you will see as you get into the book.

Selena Sheffield had married the Duke of Lushing to help support her family. Lushing married her to beget an heir, again responsibility to his family. They cared for each other but never loved each other. After seven years of marriage, the Duke fell ill and died, without his heir. He was the last of his line and if Selena couldn’t show that she was carrying his child within a very short time everything would revert to the crown. She would only receive a small sum quarterly and a cottage in which to reside. For the sake of her sisters futures she must become pregnant quickly and she had chosen the sire, a well to do illegitimate son of an Earl named Aiden Trewlove. What she hadn’t planned on was caring so much about him.
Kate Reading offered an excellent narration that allowed me to envision the characters. I had read the book, but the audio added to my delight and enjoyment by giving voice to characters, giving me the freedom to simply listen. I had time to imagine the settings described by the author. I first fell in love with Aiden and Selena. As the tale played out, I became wrapped up in the storyline. By the end of the book, I knew I had to open the pages and fall into the rest of Lorraine Heath’s stories. And after devouring the books, I can once again listen to the tales come to life through Audible Books. Enjoy but know there is heat and spice in these tales.
