Historia
After the Oklahoma City bombing in 1995, Susannah Charleson was so impressed by the newspaper photo of an exhausted handler and his search-and-rescue dog that she decided to train a dog of her own. A dog lover and pilot with search experience herself, Charleson got Puzzle, a strong, bright Golden Retriever, who from the start, exhibited a unique aptitude for search-and-rescue work. But the puppy’s willfulness challenged even Susannah, who had raised dogs for years.

This book was well written and well read! I definitely cried in some parts!
I learned a lot about SAR dogs and it makes me respect their work even more than I already did! I'm a professional service dog trainer myself and I may get my retired service dog into SAR because this book really inspired me!
Highly recommend to all!

Historia
Service dog training is a rewarding challenge. We all hear amazing stories of connection and companionship between people and animals, but to these special creatures, it is their everyday life. Service dogs have an innate ability to heal and to help. Their very nature is to become in tune and interact with their human family. By encouraging this relationship through love and training, you are making a profound difference in the lives of both a person and a dog.

Pretty decent intro
Revisado: 10-03-23
If you're wanting to learn more about service dogs this is a pretty good intro book. It was pretty accurate going over the laws, and such. I found it 95% accurate which is Def refreshing!
The title is however is misleading, while this book does talk some about obedience training, it really doesn't talk about tasks and task training, which I know would be something handlers wanting to read this book would be looking for.
Overall though, pretty good book! As a professional service dog trainer, I enjoyed it! I only wish the author didn't talk so much about dominance theory and dogs being pack animals as this information has been proven incorrect. (Highly recommend reading Dogs by Raymond Coppinger to learn more about that)

Really good!
Revisado: 09-29-23
This book was really good! It kept my attention the whole time and I felt like I was there with Seaman, Lewis, and Clark! I never knew about Seaman until now so this was such a fun book to listen to! I highly recommend it to everyone! The story is well written, well read, and just all around good!
Seaman reminds me of my mixed breed, Ford, an all around great dog, always happy to be alive and explore with his person! ❤️

DO NOT RECOMMEND
Revisado: 09-29-23
As a professional service dog trainer I do not recommend this book, especially to new service dog handlers or people interested in learning about service dogs.
The author gave a lot of false and confusing information (coming from someone who's been training dogs for years) and constantly interchanges Therapy dogs, Emotional Support Dogs, Service Dogs and Pets which are all very different. What little training is discussed in this book are not very accurate or confusing forms of training, for handler and dog.
The author doesn't even talk about task training which handlers would be expecting from a book like this.
