Historia
A deadly contagion has spread across the country, turning the afflicted into violent monsters and the streets into battlegrounds. The government has fallen. Once great cities lay in ruins. And those cursed with immunity have braved the chaos to take shelter in military bases unprepared to withstand the continuous attacks of the infected.

Excellent world-building
Revisado: 03-24-24
The reader at first seemed mechanical but soon became a great storyteller. The author did an excellent job of creating visual descriptions that helped me see what was happening around me in the story. Great work. Can't wait to read the third episode.

Excellent adventure

Great character development, excellent science fiction world-building, as well as very satisfying story and intrigue. Had me hooked start to finish with multiple storylines unraveling at the same time.

Historia
This is the way the world ends. Not with a bang but a scream. In the remote mountains of Northern Alaska, Dr. Riley Middleton and her team of archeologists discover a burial site containing mummified remains dating to the last ice age. None of them notice the warning carved into the entrance or realize that the tomb had been deliberately sealed from the outside until they’ve already released a virus that turns ordinary people into murderous monsters. But there’s something even more terrifying inside...something ancient...something unspeakably evil.

Super long but super good
Revisado: 08-26-22
It's super long but if you want to get lost in excellent storytelling, this book is for you. McBride weaves excellent detail and character development with his plot. Builds suspense like no author I've ever read (not even my own books). Leaves you asking "what would I do in that situation". It's a real experience and you experience how everything looks, feels, sounds and tastes. I can't wait to listen to the other books in the saga.

Historia
On an otherwise normal morning, former Special Forces operative Sam Dryden is the target of an unsuccessful attempted abduction. Using his attacker's cell phone, he learns that another person, a woman named Danica Ellis, is also being targeted. Dryden arrives just in time to save Danica from the assault team sent after her. But neither of them recognizes the other or has any idea why they are being targeted. The only clue is a heavily redacted, official-looking document given to Danica by her stepfather before he was killed.

Good story hammered by a bad narrator

Three things to love about this audiobook
Revisado: 05-30-22
First, Sam Dryden is a very cool down-to-earth but very capable hero. He's a thinking hero but he brings out his considerable combat skillset when needed. Second, Patrick Lee is an excellent storyteller, weaving suspense and excellent character development. Heck, even the bad guys have depth and make you sympathize with them even while Dryden is kicking their butts. Third, I don't know what all the hullabaloo is about the narrator. Sure, he's different from the first two books, and yes he has an eastern cadence to his voice and reading, but I found that didn't distract me from the great story. The reader does a great job altering his voice for different characters. He even croaks and gasps when a character is gasping out his last words. All in all, don't be dismayed by folks who "didn't like the narrator" or you'll miss out on another great Dryden adventure. Personally, I thought the narrator was great, narrating a great story with great characters.

Historia
In 2010, the words “earthquake swarm” entered the lexicon in Oklahoma. That same year, a trove of Michael Jackson memorabilia—including his iconic crystal-encrusted white glove—was sold at auction for over $1 million to a guy who was, officially, just the lowly forestry minister of the tiny nation of Equatorial Guinea. And in 2014, Ukrainian revolutionaries raided the palace of their ousted president and found a zoo of peacocks, gilded toilets, and a floating restaurant modeled after a Spanish galleon.

Excellent Rachel Maddow story telling
Revisado: 10-26-19
Love Rachel's investigative story telling. She pulled together multiple story lines in a conclusion that is totally relevant to today's headlines.
