Historia
Sam Carlson is a projectionist in small-town Minnesota, where fantasies unspool in glorious black and white—for him and for his sweetheart, college-bound math whiz Sarah Haber. When the Japanese bomb Pearl Harbor, Sam is sent to the Philippines and captured as a POW. Brutalized but unbroken by the Bataan Death March and POW camps, Sam is one of eighteen hundred starved and weakened prisoners herded into the cargo hold of a barbaric hell ship called the Arisan Maru, his survival doubtful.

A story that needs to be told. An immense intense description of the POW Pacific experience and the stateside women who toiled without parades and flags to break codes and win the war. Truly breathtaking

Twenty years after her iconic memoir Shutterbabe, Deborah Copaken is at her darkly comedic nadir: battered, broke, divorcing, dissected, and dying — literally — on sexism’s battlefield as she scoops up what she believes to be her internal organs into a glass container before heading off to the hospital...in an UberPool.

What should have been a compelling story of womanhood health and challenges evolved into an angry story of its America’s fault it’s corporate America ‘s fault and avoids her own choices. Coupled with the expected racist America rants and anti Trump screams made this book unappealing.

Historia
The idea for Britain’s first female rock band, The Liverbirds, started one evening in 1962, when Mary McGlory, then age 16, saw The Beatles play live at The Cavern Club in Liverpool, the nightclub famously known as the “cradle of British pop music.” Then and there, she decided she was going to be just like them—and be the first girl to do it.

Historia
In the days and months after Pearl Harbor, the lives of Japanese Americans across the continent and Hawaii were changed forever. In this unforgettable chronicle of war-time America and the battlefields of Europe, Daniel James Brown portrays the journey of Rudy Tokiwa, Fred Shiosaki, and Kats Miho, who volunteered for the 442nd Regimental Combat Team and were deployed to France, Germany, and Italy, where they were asked to do the near impossible. Brown also tells the story of these soldiers' parents, immigrants who were forced to submit to life in concentration camps on U.S. soil.

Importance of the story
Revisado: 02-20-24
The Japanese incarceration and the 442 were stories I thought I understood but this book told me otherwise. Incredibly researched well written and a wonderful narrator brought me to tears awareness and a new perspective on this history. A must for the classroom and others who want to be enlightened.

Revisado: 07-26-23
The Stagg Nate Shepherd series was new to me a month ago…no longer. Six down and cannot wait for the next. Nate is a good man with good friends who are a bit unusual and a large loving family. He is a relentless fighter for truth and justice who you want on your side. The narration is wonderful and the cases are interesting. Perhaps we need a Cade and Olivia book as well.

Historia
In 1943, as the war against Nazi Germany raged abroad, President Franklin Roosevelt had a critical goal: a face-to-face sit-down with his allies Joseph Stalin and Winston Churchill. This first-ever meeting of the Big Three in Tehran, Iran, would decide some of the most crucial strategic details of the war. Yet when the Nazis found out about the meeting, their own secret plan took shape—an assassination plot that would’ve changed history.

An American Love Story
Revisado: 08-09-21
This is a grand love story played out over small town Utah to the skies over Germany to the POW camp that Evans found himself. His love for his wife, family and country while challenged never diminish. Important WW2 info about pilot training, the Battle of the Bulge and American Generals is woven quite cleverly around the love letters back and forth between the adoring couple. Bravo!

just amazing
Revisado: 10-18-20
This is a story of loss and how deeply it affects people. And it is a story of life going on but not as before. There is no happy ending and there is no resolution that you know in time things will be better. What you are left with is a tragedy that encompasses the two protagonists and other players in the story and their background and some sliver of hope. But it's enough...more than enough.

Amazing
Revisado: 10-05-20
When I first heard about this book, I wondered how I would be kept interested for so many hours. They lived and died and the letter went unanswered. But I was wrong., this is a family saga worth the time and a story worth learning about. I learned much from the history of immigration and was surprised at the level of communication maintained up until 1942 or so. Please listen or read, you will not be disappointed.
