I like how Charles and Anna work together. The universe is well designed and appealing.

I liked watching the development of the characters especially Meg. The story is easy to slip into, and the writing sustains suspension of disbelief.

It was great to have another Kate Daniels Lenert story. I hope the authors will write more in this universe. I’d especially like to hear how the reworking of the pack goes, as well as how the building of the castle goes.

The premise of the story was interesting. I listen to the entire thing because I wanted to see where that was going. Having said that, the main character Samson was a thoroughgoing idiot. He had a very narrow point of view and didn’t seem to learn anything. His treatment of Harper was small minded. Saying that it was an issue of insubordination rather than coming right out, and saying mutiny, was a good call. But once he made that decision, he kept going back and arguing it with himself.

Samson treated the people around him in an arrogant and thoughtless way. He wanted to be an officer, but didn’t get a handle on being a leader. He was ordained to tell everybody what to do, so they better do it. That’s not leadership. There was an opportunity , with his mutinous crew, to bring them back together outside of the mutiny.

By the time I finished the story, I really didn’t like Samson. I don’t think I can stand anymore of his idiocy. Still, the premise is really interesting.

I enjoyed the science and the effort the author went to explain, not only from the fictional point of view, but later, at the end of the book in an appendix.

I did get confused with some of the Chinese names, and ended up using context to figure out who the character was. This is not a failing of the author. It’s my unfamiliarity with naming conventions.

Overall, I enjoyed this book and will probably read it as well as listening to it again.

I usually like the narrator, but this time something has gone terribly wrong. She’s voicing the main character as if Noa is both stupid and lacking in a sense of self-preservation. This is definitely a book to be read not listened to.

I've read this book and liked it. The character of Finn is interesting. However, the narration doesn't do the story justice. Aaron Rahl talks too fast, and is indiscriminate in emphasis. It's like he's reading the book, but has no feel of characters or the importance of events. He can't just read the words, he needs to have appreciation of what is happening, and how it effects the characters.

Maybe I’m just used to DeVries, but Benjamin Darcy’s narration grated on me some. Some of his characterizations of characters I had already come to know didn’t fit very well. And some were just downright silly. Sean Bermont is a good example. Darcy‘s, narration turned him into a cartoon character. That’s really sad, because a lot of work had gone into developing this character. Many of the characters spent a lot of time screaming at the other people around them. Their main purpose seemed to be angry all the time. Too much shouting. This may have been because the narrator changed, pronounced words, differently, and messed with the characters.

I really like adventure stories where something is discovered. The premise of this book is pretty interesting. It’s all a part of the idea that ancient civilizations had knowledge that we current civilizations do not possess. That part of the story, I really liked. However, I have a couple of problems with the way the story was presented. First, I think Jennifer Van Dyke was not the best narrator for the story. Main character was already a stretch. She was whiny, suspicious and paranoid. Jennifer’s narration really emphasized that.

Second, the main character, Boss, was not a likable character for me. She was supposed to be a leader, but she was just the person in front. Boss was a good name for her. She was bossy, all right, and when anything went wrong, it was somebody else’s fault because they acted without the information she had failed to give them. She also spent a great deal of time diving into her belly button, talking about the anguish of her situation. I found that discussion kicking me out of the story repeatedly.

I think I’m going to try reading the story, rather than listening to it. That way I can visit the story without the narrators influence. Also, I can just skip over all the belly button diving. That should help.
