Historia
When he signed up for a psychedelic retreat run by a mysterious Argentine woman deep in Brazil’s rainforest in early 2018, Ernesto Londoño, a veteran New York Times journalist, was so depressed he had come close to jumping off his terrace weeks earlier. His nine-day visit to Spirit Vine Ayahuasca Retreat Center included four nighttime ceremonies during which participants imbibed a vomit-inducing plant-based brew that contained DMT, a powerful mind-altering compound.

Brilliantly written- personal and informative-brimming with hope!

I loved every moment I spent with this book. Authenticity and well-researched and translated data separate this book from most others on the subject. The second half was so compelling I couldn’t put it down.

It’s become common to tell kids that they’re going to die from climate change. We are constantly bombarded by doomsday headlines that tell us the soil won’t be able to support crops, fish will vanish from our oceans, and that we should reconsider having children.

Historia
When Arkady Petrovich comes home from college, his father finds his eager, naive son changed almost beyond recognition, for the impressionable Arkady has fallen under the powerful influence of the friend he has brought with him. A self-proclaimed nihilist, the ardent young Bazarov shocks Arkady's father by criticising the landowning way of life and by his outspoken determination to sweep away the traditional values of contemporary Russian society.

A rereading for me, and so worthwhile
Revisado: 11-08-23
Read this in my 20s in college. Rereading in my 50s and realizing the additional layers of the story I had missed. Quite an enjoyable, well-acted performance!

Historia
Intelligence is usually seen as the ability to think and learn, but in a rapidly changing world, there's another set of cognitive skills that might matter more: the ability to rethink and unlearn. In our daily lives, too many of us favor the comfort of conviction over the discomfort of doubt. We listen to opinions that make us feel good, instead of ideas that make us think hard. We see disagreement as a threat to our egos, rather than an opportunity to learn.

A Delightful and Insightful Read

Writing style and narration are really light and fun. I’ve now listened a second time and got even more out of it. Like a toolkit for applying strategic thinking and communication to your own life.

A Revelation!
Revisado: 06-22-19
I’ve been reading about the adolescent brain, the unintended “nurture shock”, the “yes brain”, about kids who struggled with high-functioning autism spectrum disorder, parenting guides, and none of it has helped me understand my 15-year old struggling son better than this!
