Historia
The Statfire Breeze steams its way north toward the Gulf of Alaska, buffeted by crisp sea winds blowing down from the Arctic. Those on board are seeking peace, relaxation, adventure, escape. But there is no escape here in this place of unspoiled natural majesty. Because terror strolls the decks even in the brilliant light of day...and death is a conspicuous, unwelcome passenger. And a former Seattle policeman, a damaged homicide detective who has come to heal from fresh, stinging wounds...

New narrator
Revisado: 11-22-15
This is another great book by J A Jance; however, we did prefer the previous books narrator-Gene Engene.

Historia
The year is 2008 and Samantha Kofer's career at a huge Wall Street law firm is on the fast track - until the recession hits and she gets downsized, furloughed, escorted out of the building. Samantha, though, is one of the "lucky" associates. She's offered an opportunity to work at a legal aid clinic for one year without pay, after which there would be a slim chance that she'd get her old job back. In a matter of days Samantha moves from Manhattan to Brady, Virginia, population 2,200, in the heart of Appalachia, a part of the world she has only read about.

Essay on coal companies not a mystery novel
Revisado: 11-20-14
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
Less diatribe on coal companies and an ending
What do you think your next listen will be?
Something by Joel Rosenberg
Did the narration match the pace of the story?
The narration was okay. The story line was terrible.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Disappointment. I wanted a John Grisham novel not a dissertation on the coal companies, attorneys that work for them, and labor unions. This book did not have an ending rather a one chapter wrap-up of characters.
Any additional comments?
Not worth one credit. Waste of time listening. If this is the direction Grisham is heading with his future novels, I will not be buying.

Great book but reader mispronounces locations
Revisado: 10-25-13
What did you like best about Hand of Fate? What did you like least?
The story line was good. The character development was good. This is the second book in this series and the author tied this book into the first one well. However, the reader mispronounces many of the local Portland area geographical names and that really grated on us as we listened to the book. It took away a lot of the enjoyment of the book. A little research or even asking the author who is familiar with the area would have made the book much more enjoyable.
Would you be willing to try another one of Pam Turlow’s performances?
No,I don't think we will purchase another book read by Pam Turlow. We had planned on listening to the Lis Wiehl series but this performance was really off-putting.
Any additional comments?
A simple phone call to the local library would have cleared up any doubts about the pronunciation of many of the place names. Not doing so produced a poor quality product.
