How did this story get a 4.7 Rating out of 5
Revisado: 04-04-25
I've been listening to books on Audible since 2008 and I just got through listening to a book that I really enjoyed that was rated a 4.8. I saw this whole series of Defiance of the Fall and was like, based off the rating I had HIGH expectations for this series of about 14 books (ranked 4.7+ throughout) so I was excited to go through this book and this series. Half way through the book I am seriously considering that this book is a waste of my time and I should move on to a better story than this. There hasn't been any dialogue with the customer because he is by himself during the half of the book I read. The fight scenes are weak and not very descriptive or exciting.

Started pretty good then went COMPLETELY to crap!
Revisado: 08-14-21
I generally don't write reviews or and generally only rate the books that I like or really don't. This one falls into the later category. The initial premise is what drew me to this book along with the reviews for this book. But it COMPLETELY does not deserve the 4.5 rating that it has so far. NOT EVEN CLOSE. Now that I've spent almost 46 hours listening to this I deeply regret wasting the time. The ending is flat and goes NO wear and the author even states at the end that his readers mailed him saying the book seem unfinished and wanted a 4th book to properly end the series. They were half right. The ending REALLY sucks but I wouldn't waste my time with another book in this series. On a positive note I will say the narrators performance is good. And the authors writing still kept my interest enough to find out where this was going, but the story itself is crappy and goes no where.

Historia
Erik Cain joined the marines to get off death row. The deal was simple; enlist to fight in space and he would be pardoned for all his crimes. In the 23rd Century, assault troops go to war wearing AI-assisted, nuclear-powered armor, but it is still men and blood that win battles. From one brutal campaign to the next, Erik and his comrades fight an increasingly desperate war over the resource rich colony worlds that have become vital to the economies of Earth's exhausted and despotic Superpowers.

Revisado: 08-04-19
I been an audible member for about 10 years and there has only ever been a couple book that I had to throw my hands up and say I don't want to listen to this anymore, This was one. This must be one of Jay Allan's very first works because I've been listen to he Blood on the Stars and Far Stars series and I love them. But this book along with the narration were killing me.

One of the worst I've listen to
Revisado: 03-28-17
What was most disappointing about the authors’s story?
I listen to the first one so long ago that I didn't remember what was going on. After 8+ hours in book two I still don't know what this book was about. The accents drove me nuts and I soon began to dreaded listening to the book. I tried but I can't listen to this crap any more.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
The Russian accents

33 Hours and 8 minutes I will never get Back
Revisado: 04-25-13
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
It could have been an actual Sci-fi or Fantasy novel
What could Diana Gabaldon have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
The book was well written.
What three words best describe Davina Porter’s voice?
Intelligent, British,
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
Yes, this book was a well written romance aka soft porn novel written from a women's perspective.
Any additional comments?
The main reason I'm rating this book so low is because I'm use to my Sci-fi and Fantasy novels to have some actual Sci-fi or Fantasy in them. Maybe I read the wrong reviews of the book before hand. I'm use to the books I read to slowly build to a climatic point this book was pointless. I'm use to the main character being a hero or heroine not the damsel in distress needed to be saved all the time. The love making scenes (I can't call it sex) are just short of written porn and were strictly written from the female perspective and made me cringe. There were several times during reading this book that I wanted to stop, but I wanted to finish so that I could write this review. If you are looking for a romance novel then you might enjoy this book. If you are looking for action and adventure this is the WRONG book.

Good Book, Great New Narrator
Revisado: 08-13-11
First, I would like to say that this is only the 3rd review for a book that I have ever written and I have a couple of hundred audio books in my library. I have listened to all the other Dresden Files books and I thought they were all easy on the ears and fun to listen to. The combination of Jim Butcher's writing style and James Marsters' reading, visually brought the characters and Harry's universe to life. Because of some of the negative reviews of this particular book I almost missed this one. Because it seemed like a lot of people were hung up on the narrator change to John Glover. I would like to say that I thought John did an OUTSTANDING job on this narration. I could tell that he really did his homework and I got the sense that he was very familiar with the characters in the series. To all the Harry Dresden fans that are on the fence about this book. I would say come into this book with an open mind and give John Glover a chance, he doesn't disappoint. As for Jim Butcher, I have enjoyed all of his books up to this date. He is one of my favorite authors. I started with all of the Codex Alera series then graduated to Harry and each book has made me into a bigger fan. Bottomline... good job all around.

Just Outstanding!
Revisado: 12-16-10
My biggest problem on 2 November (when this book came out) was finding the patience to wait until the 3rd (the date that my credits are added to my account) to purchase it. But now that I've read it, simply put this was probably my favorite book of the entire series! I have listened to it already about 3 times. And it has left me drooling for the final BOOK! Please don't make me wait until next year for this when I bet it is already written. Brandon should be applauded for continuing Robert Jordan's work, just Outstanding! Kate Reading and Michael Kramer do their usual great job bringing the characters to life. I just wish that this series didn't have to end! This entire series is a Tolken-like EPIC!

I couldn't finish it!
Revisado: 11-24-09
I had high hopes for this book but to be honest I was a slow, borring read. This is the first Audio Book that I bought that I couldn't finish. I tried several times to pick this back up. It just didn't keep my interest and couldn't get past the first couple of hours. Sorry I'm sure it ended well but the beginning was TOO borring for me!

This Book SUCKS! Avoid like the Plague!
Revisado: 11-24-09
Dana's review is 100% correct. Except she was too nice. This book SUCKS! It is just BAD. Just because you put a space ship on the front of the cover of a book doesn't make it Science Fiction! First let me say that I have never written a review for any Book or Audio Book before. The reviews I read for it were good, but after reading halfway through this book I felt completely duped I felt as if I had wasted a credit on crap! The only reason I wanted to finish this book was to write this review so that I could warn other people to stay away from it.
Like Dana, I choose this book because of the review that I read about it. The series sounded promising from the reviews and the other books in the series. So I decided to take a chance. Let me be clear. This is the worst Audio Book that I ever listen to. The plot was just bad. The military themes and references didn’t make sense. And they kept put the heroine in situation that would be militarily wrong. For example (from the beginning of the book) you would NOT assign a boot ensign to be in charge of team of Marines on a special ops mission. The Marines have there own officers corp. The presented scenario would never happen.
The Narrating was equally awful. The bad country/Irish/Scotish accents just got on my nerves! The only thing good I can say is that she knows how to read.
Like Dana I believe that Mike (the Author) must be an alias for Michelle (or has to be a woman), because men don't think, write or care about the dribble she wrote about in this book. I would also guess that she is an alcoholic that has a low opinion of military procurement as a while.
I would give this book 0 Stars out of 5 if they let me. Again, save your credits and avoid this book like the Plague! If you buy this book anyway, you won’t be able to say you weren't warned.
