I really like infectious disease and just finished the hot zone and loved it. I can’t tell if it’s the narrator or the writing but this book is kinda dense. Even when I got into a story (who poisoned the babies with digoxin?!) it would drag until I lost interested. But the narrator really made it worse. The way she pronounced acronyms drove me nuts. She seemed to pause between each letter or something? I don’t know. But I couldn’t continue once I lost focus. It worked relatively well as a book to put me to sleep however.

Pretty true to the myths too!!

Wowowow. I know this book doesn’t need more glowing reviews but wow. It’s been green lit by HBO to make a miniseries too! Amazing. I’m so sad that there are no other books by this author although I appreciate how hard she works on each one. I’m glad to be able to support her!

I want her to write even more from Greek myths!!!!

Wow. I’ve never binged an audiobook so fast. I had thought it would be a boring retelling of a story to put me to sleep and instead I stayed up all night. Also after fiercely reading the Wikipedia pages I’m shook that it’s all accurate to the myths. No wonder the Iliad was such a popular story. It’s freaking good!

Also as a warning there are brief and vague descriptions of sex scenes

Not the same as the original but very enjoyable

I don’t usually like old books but I’ve seen carmilla the YouTube drama and have heard so much about it I wanted to know the story. But the original language was too flowery and boring.

My only complaint is that some parts had heavy breathing that sounded like porn. Which was unexpected.

It’s not the same book

To be fair I’m only 2 hours in but I don’t think I want to listen any more. They took out all the bits that were inside Enders head. There’s no narration, only dialogue. All the strategy and intelligence were gutted. Everything that made the book stand out. The voice actors are great but whoever put it together put in a weirdly long amount of music. And sometimes it’s hard to tell who is speaking just based on the sound of the voice. So it gets confusing. But if you’re looking for an abridged version of Enders game I think it will cover the major plot points all the same.

Needs to be broken up into segments

I couldn’t finish it because of the chaotic way it’s read. There’s absolutely no pause between the stories. No announcement that it’s a new chapter or story. And if you aren’t paying close attention you miss that we’re now 100 years later across the world or something and it’s confusing.

Unexpectedly fascinating!

I downloaded this from the plus catalogue to fall asleep to but it ended up being super fascinating. I find myself sharing factoids with fellow med students (who are super addicted to coffee!)

Card is such an amazing writer. How does he come up with stuff like this? It’s so smart. I’m so glad this was one of the plus catalogue books. This and treason have been so amazing. Kept me interested all the way through.

Loved it and I’m pretty picky

It got slow for a bit in the middle but the ending was worth it in my opinion. Wrapped up really nicely!
