Hilarious!!
Revisado: 05-07-19
I LOVED this production (I guess you would call it??) it was probably the most I’ve ever laughed while listening to audible (thereby usurping the formidable David Sedaris). The celebrity voices were SO fun and honestly Kate McKinnon would crack me up reading the phone book, so listening to her parody both millennial women (of which I am one!!) and politics in the same character was truly a delight. Political satire done right, which can be hard to find this day in age. But they nail it. Audible: can we have a sequel please??

Historia
In her memoir, a work of deep reflection and mesmerizing storytelling, Michelle Obama invites listeners into her world, chronicling the experiences that have shaped her - from her childhood on the South Side of Chicago to her years as an executive balancing the demands of motherhood and work to her time spent at the world's most famous address. With unerring honesty and lively wit, she describes her triumphs and her disappointments, both public and private, telling her full story as she has lived it - in her own words and on her own terms.

One of the best listens of the year
Revisado: 01-19-19
I half read and half listened to this book. I was concerned it wouldn’t live up to the hype, but oh my god it was excellent, historic. I don’t think we’ve had a FLOTUS open up so much to the public since Eleanor Roosevelt. Meanwhile, Michelle Obama has such a strong command of language and is a talented writer. Laughed and cried and never once got annoyed with her, which might be a first for me for political memoirs!! We are lucky to have had her as flotus and even luckier that she opened up the way she did in this book.

Historia
Young Jane Young's heroine is Aviva Grossman, an ambitious congressional intern in Florida who makes the life-changing mistake of having an affair with her boss - who is beloved, admired, successful, and very married - and blogging about it. When the affair comes to light, the congressman doesn't take the fall, but Aviva does, and her life is over before it hardly begins. She becomes a late-night talk show punchline; she is slut shamed and considered a blight on politics in general. How does one go on after this?

Best book of the summer!!
Revisado: 09-04-17
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
YES (see below)
What did you like best about this story?
My mother and grandmother are elected officials and I'm currently volunteering on a congressional campaign (for a woman) and this was just so emotionally accurate. Although there were parts where you had to suspend your disbelief for sure, the writing was so able to capture the emotion of mother/daughter relationships, elections, public perceptions, and just what it's like to be a woman. i literally could not stop listening to this book and finished it in about two days. the ending made me cry, and i can't remember the last time that happened.
Which scene was your favorite?
any number of ruby's emails, but my favorite line was probably "i don't know if it's normal in my country for event planners to run for mayor."
i also LOVED the chapter in which ruby forges an extremely unlikely friendship.
If you could rename Young Jane Young, what would you call it?
"i don't know if it's normal in my country for event planners to fur mayor" :)

Historia
Jen Dixon is not your typical Kansas City kindergarten class mom - or mom in general. Jen already has two college-age daughters by two different (probably) musicians, and it's her second time around the class mom block with five-year-old Max - this time with a husband and father by her side. Though her best friend and PTA president sees her as the "wisest" candidate for the job (or oldest), not all of the other parents agree.

At first I found this book kind of annoying, and I was put off by an author narrating her own novel but then the whole thing grew on me! Really fun, wild ride of a read. Would highly recommend.

Historia
In You'll Grow Out of It, Jessi Klein offers - through an incisive collection of real-life stories - a relentlessly funny yet poignant take on a variety of topics she has experienced along her strange journey to womanhood and beyond. These include her "transformation from Pippi Longstocking-esque tomboy to are-you-a-lesbian-or-what tom man", attempting to find watchable porn, and identifying the difference between being called "ma'am" and "miss" (" miss sounds like you weigh 99 pounds").

This version of the Bennet family - and Mr. Darcy - is one that you have and haven't met before: Liz is a magazine writer in her late 30s who, like her yoga instructor older sister, Jane, lives in New York City. When their father has a health scare, they return to their childhood home in Cincinnati to help - and discover that the sprawling Tudor they grew up in is crumbling, and the family is in disarray.

Actually haven't read pride & prejudice in full but loved this. Don't think EVERYTHING made sense this day in age though. Felt a lot like a Jennifer wiener which isn't a bad thing (in fact is a great thing) but it's very different from Curtis Sittenfeld's Prep which is one of my all time favorites

Historia
Bev Tunney and Amy Schein have been best friends for years; now, at 30, they're at a crossroads. Bev is a Midwestern striver still mourning a years-old romantic catastrophe. Amy is an East Coast princess whose luck and charm have too long allowed her to cruise through life. Bev is stuck in circumstances that would have barely passed for bohemian in her mid-20s. Amy is still riding the tailwinds of her early success, but her habit of burning bridges is finally catching up to her. And now Bev is pregnant.

Historia
Like an urban Dian Fossey, Wednesday Martin decodes the primate social behaviors of Upper East Side mothers in a brilliantly original and witty memoir about her adventures assimilating into that most secretive and elite tribe. After marrying a man from the Upper East Side and moving to the neighborhood, Wednesday Martin struggled to fit in. Drawing on her background in anthropology and primatology, she tried looking at her new world through that lens, and suddenly things fell into place.
