Deep insights and broad overview of information
Revisado: 05-18-20
This publication from The Great Courses is well organized, covers the most interesting aspects of the science of information and presents it in a way that is understandable with basic understanding of science and math. I took away a lot from this audiobook and almost every chapter had one or two great new insights that changed how I think about information and even life in general. I’m very impressed by what I’ve learned and I’m inspired to read more about algorithmic information and quantum information.

Historia
Blood carries life, yet the sight of it makes people faint. It is a waste product and a commodity pricier than oil. It can save lives and transmit deadly infections. Each one of us has roughly nine pints of it, yet many don’t even know their own blood type. And for all its ubiquitousness, the few tablespoons of blood discharged by 800 million women are still regarded as taboo: menstruation is perhaps the single most demonized biological event.

Mixed feelings
Revisado: 03-15-20
At times sensational, curious, politically strong, feminist strong, repetitive, carried away with background details, too many tampons, borderline offensive caricature voice imitations, although generally very pleasant female voice, but always very informative, factual, detailed, fast paced, engaged.

It’s no wonder that The Power of Now has sold over 16 million copies worldwide and has been translated into over 30 foreign languages. Much more than simple principles and platitudes, the book takes readers on an inspiring spiritual journey to find their true and deepest self and reach the ultimate in personal growth and spirituality: the discovery of truth and light. In the first chapter, Tolle introduces listeners to enlightenment and its natural enemy, the mind.

Fresh and authentic philosophy of spiritual living
Revisado: 01-11-20
Eckhart communicates well the common elements of different religions and spiritual teachings. He uses some powerful analogies in explaining the mind, time, hurt and existence that have enriched my mental library of understanding life. I don’t find this book or the philosophy in it to add anything beyond any other philosophy I have heard before. The philosophy feels to me like it glorifies the watering down of passion and his voice and the male-student’s voice sound paralyzed and dead. Besides this somewhat misleading message, it’s a great book that teaches (in a very practical way) how to refresh your views and slow down.

One hundred years ago, scientists would have said that lasers, televisions, and the atomic bomb were beyond the realm of physical possibility. In Physics of the Impossible, the renowned physicist Michio Kaku explores to what extent the technologies and devices of science fiction that are deemed equally impossible today might well become commonplace in the future.

Science fiction for dummies
Revisado: 12-12-19
Modern physics’ jargon in the effort to squeeze yet more thrill out of popular science fiction movies and literature. Sci-fi aficionados will probably love this title, I couldn’t get over contradicting arguments that go back and forth building credibility by confusing readers with copy n paste statements from popular science journals and logical fallacies like - advanced alien race would have to be carnivorous because it takes more intelligence to hunt than to be hunted 😄😂🤣 - as if Walmart pics on internet don’t prove that it doesn’t take high intelligence to buy a steak. Books like this place science closer to religion, endless debates on unprovable imagined concepts where opinions and authorities are so hard that they are the most tangible thing at hand. I had a really tough time not quitting this book.

Most books about the history of humanity pursue either a historical or a biological approach, but Dr. Yuval Noah Harari breaks the mold with this highly original book. From examining the role evolving humans have played in the global ecosystem to charting the rise of empires, Sapiens integrates history and science to reconsider accepted narratives, connect past developments with contemporary concerns, and examine specific events within the context of larger ideas.

Amazing inspiring book
Revisado: 08-10-19
This book provides unique and inspiring perspectives on what we think we already know and there is not much more to be said, however once you start reading this book you realize how relevant all of this is not only to the recent history, but also present and future. Book is well written and narrated. I’ve learned a lot and gained a lot of interesting perspectives to further think about. There were only a few times where my mind slightly cringed at what appeared to be flawed logic, but these were more marginal topics in the books, the main topics are laid out very clearly and flawlessly in my opinion. A must read.

Historia
From the New York Times best-selling author of Seven Brief Lessons on Physics, The Order of Time, and Helgoland, a closer look at the mind-bending nature of the Universe. What are the elementary ingredients of the world? Do time and space exist? And what exactly is reality? Theoretical physicist Carlo Rovelli has spent his life exploring these questions. He tells us how our understanding of reality has changed over the centuries and how physicists think about the structure of the Universe today.

Remarkable
Revisado: 04-09-19
Last two chapters really blew my mind, together with a chapter in the beginning explaining the spin foam and basics of loop quantum gravity. There are some truly progressive thoughts in this book that I haven’t heard anywhere else and it made me interested in loop quantum gravity, Shannon’s theory and heat theory. Highly recommended for scientific minds looking for stimulating ideas about the world, space, time, cosmos and reality.

Historia
An affair: It can rob a couple of their relationship, their happiness, their very identity. And yet this extremely common human experience is so poorly understood. Adultery has existed since marriage was invented, and so, too, the prohibition against it - in fact it has a tenacity that marriage can only envy. Iconic couples' therapist and best-selling author of Mating in Captivity Esther Perel returns with a groundbreaking and provocative look at infidelity, arguing for a more nuanced and less judgmental conversation about our transgressions.

Historia
In The Microbiome Solution, Dr. Robynne Chutkan, a preeminent gastroenterologist, explains how the standard Western diet and our super-sanitized lifestyles are starving our microbiomes, depleting the "good bugs" that are crucial for keeping us healthy, and encouraging overgrowth of exactly the wrong types of bacteria, which can leave us vulnerable to a host of autoimmune and chronic health conditions.

Very practical and instructive
Revisado: 10-01-18
I’m not an expert in any medical or related field, but I found this book clear and understandable. I love the pragmatic approach to applying the latest knowledge on microbiome to lifestyle decisions. I found the ideas expressed in this book very progressive and I feel it has impacted my views on medicine and health overall. A lot of the book has a feel of a reference which makes it very practical, especially the rundown of different type of bacteria and where on human body they’re located and the probiotic dietary sources and practical advices on probiotic supplements. Most recent research I found in other books is also cited here. A lot of the book focuses on child birth and rearing, so I’d especially recommend this book to expecting parents.

Microbiology: from zero to hero
Revisado: 09-01-18
I loved this book. Since Complete Guide to Fasting, no other book has changed my lifestyle as much, but also opened up a new corridor for seeing the big picture of life. I didn't know much about microbes before reading this book, yet I felt I was able to follow and understand the expose in this book, together with the cited scientific studies (which there are many). The writing is very concise and correct, the author really did a good job writing. Also, the narrator's performance sounded really good, although the audio is patchy (many times it sounded like a adjacent sentences were recorded with different voices/different sound settings and patched into one audio, this makes the production sound very amateur-ish). This book has opened up a new chapter in my thinking and inspired me to read more on the topic and explore how to reflect this knowledge by adjusting my lifestyle.

Historia
Continuing where Thus Spoke Zarathustra left off, Nietzsche's controversial work Beyond Good and Evil is one of the most influential philosophical texts of the 19th century and one of the most controversial works of ideology ever written. Attacking the notion of morality as nothing more than institutionalised weakness, Nietzsche criticises past philosophers for their unquestioning acceptance of moral precepts. Nietzsche tried to formulate what he called "the philosophy of the future".

Nietzsche's philosophy with a crutch
Revisado: 09-01-18
The prologues before each part really helped me follow the strains of thought in Nietzsche's poetic aphorisms. It felt exhilarating to feel like I actually understood some thoughts and could value their beauty in expression and depth.
The performance is good, I liked the sometime arrogant, intellectually snobby tone, it painted a picture of philosopher's bitter loneliness. After the first listen I feel I only got the general idea of the structure and maybe grasped about 30% of the thoughts put forth. Re-listening some aphorisms in a different mindset and paradigms often allowed me to find deeper meaning. In this way, Nietzsche's writings are like the Bible.
Overall, a valuable work and worth a read, life changing in a non-practical theoretical way. Recommended to free thinkers.
