Historia
Young Cally is an apprentice within the most unusual order of sorcerers in the known world: the only one that forbids its members from using their powers to kill. Despite his lowly status, Cally's chosen by the Master of the Order to join a delegation to see their allies the Lannovians. The meeting will be historic: 60 years ago, the Order's enemies attacked them with a host of demons, forcing the Order to trap the monsters inside their own citadel and seal it shut with impenetrable wards. The trick worked so well the Order hasn't been able to get it back open since.

This book is carried by the protagonist who has a fantastic transformation in terms of being a character.
However, I felt the plot was a little lacking. Most of the plot is just tossing Cally from one mentor figure to another. Still the stakes were real. And I enjoyed the book.

I enjoyed the listening to journey of Henry Dresden - Private Eye and Wizard.
This book is basically a noir detective novel, but with wizards. Enjoy.
On a side note, some people complain about the microphone. The microphone is a bit statically. I personally think it adds to the noire theme like a mini-tap recorder. Our first person protagonist would probably have trouble recording a clean narrative anyways. After all technology hates him.

This story is fun. The story breaks the mold of the traditional pacing structure. But I think its worth a read if you aren't looking for something too serious.

Historia
One of the genre's favorite pairs returns in a classic fantasy short for both Riyria veterans and first-time readers. Several years have passed since the war-weary mercenary Hadrian and cynical ex-assassin Royce joined forces to start their thieves-for-hire organization better known as Riyria. Things have gone well enough for the team as they do "jobs" for various nobles throughout Elan. Usually that means stealing something, but when a young heiress asks them to steal her…well, that's a first for the pair.

For a thousand years the ash fell and no flowers bloomed. For a thousand years the Skaa slaved in misery and lived in fear. For a thousand years the Lord Ruler, the "Sliver of Infinity," reigned with absolute power and ultimate terror, divinely invincible. Then, when hope was so long lost that not even its memory remained, a terribly scarred, heart-broken half-Skaa rediscovered it in the depths of the Lord Ruler's most hellish prison.

I have no critisms for this book. It tells the story of a theif girl of an oppressed class of people who learns about the power of friendship. She is trained in a form of magic, while her mentor organizes the destruction of a tyrrantical diety which took over the world. There are plenty of twists. Even if the plot direction feels odvious, its still well executed. It probably will not take you for a rollercoaster ride, but you will definately love and root for the heros in the quests.

Historia
Vainqueur Knightsbane is your average dragon: A giant, fire-breathing lizard who loves to take naps on his golden hoard, kidnap princesses for fun, and make the life of adventurers miserable. Vainqueur's only pleasure in life is to watch his treasure get bigger, one coin at a time. So when a would-be thief turned unwilling minion tells him about "classes", "levels", and "quests", Vainqueur wonders if maybe, just maybe, he should consider a career change. After all, why bother hunting monsters for free when you can get paid for it?

I think I enjoyed it?
Revisado: 05-05-20
The initial premise is interesting and fun. The story is about Vainqueur the dragon learning about how profitable being an adventurer can be. Vainqueur is fun. He is egotistical & greedy to an highest-level which makes for great commedy. His compainion Victor is bland guy who just wants to find a girl friend and not die.
To summarize this tale I'd call it ammusing. I laughed at many times. My problem is its going no place. Some books I feel like the author is just making things up as they go. This one feels like the author is recording a D&D session in book form.
Apparrently its in a genre called litRPG which I did not know existed until now. Apparrently the genre is about people who die in our world and get reincarnated in game world. Or at least a world that follows the rules of games in real life. For example people have stats and easily check them. Usually it plays heavily into power fantasy which the character constantly trying to level up. Vainqueur's constant quest for more power and money is the driving force of the plot afterall. After doing research I discovered this is part of an on going webseries. Since the overarching plot is minimal I assume the only way it will end is with one or both of the characters becoming level 100 and becoming gods.
I took a few points off the performance as the voice used for the dragon seems to change even within the same scene. Sometimes its played up highly for effects and can be off putting then when a moment later the effects are not used.
It relies on cliff hangers to keep you comming back. I think I enjoyed it, but I'm not entirely sure why.

Historia
In Age of Myth, fantasy master Michael J. Sullivan launched audiences on an epic journey of magic and adventure, heroism and betrayal, love and loss. Now the thrilling saga continues as the human uprising is threatened by powerful enemies from without—and bitter rivalries from within. Raithe, the God Killer, may have started the rebellion by killing a Fhrey, but long-standing enmities dividing the Rhunes make it all but impossible to unite against the common foe. And even if the clans can join forces, how will they defeat an enemy whose magical prowess renders them indistinguishable from gods?

Not as good as book one
Revisado: 04-14-20
First off, I liked this book. I don't finish books I don't like and this one I eagerly devoured. However while I thought the first book was perfection the 2nd falls a bit farther from the mark.
I'll start with the first thing that might irritate some people. Raith had been presented as the protagonist of Age of Myth. Looking at this book I can say that he has become a side character and will probably remain so across the entire series. The main protagonist is certainly Percefany.
The new characters of Brin, Moya and Roan take a far more important position and they are all weaker characters than those in the previous book. Brin and Moya particularly have no issues that they struggle with. They perform their duty to Percefany and do it well. They could've really benefited from an internal struggle of some kind.
I found the setting confusing, same as book 1. There are suppose to be millions of people but they only describe a few towns and these are described as towns not cities. I cannot figure out where these millions of people are. I also am constantly taken by surprise at how primitive the people are.
Now for the gold. Suri was the star of the book and her struggle about using magic and later in the book a type of blood magic. The author really put this character through hell and she probably need therapy. Good job author! Her callus attitude towards killing at the end seemed a bit out of character, but I can excuse it for the amount of trauma she endured.
The other character who I really enjoyed was Mondule, the elf prince. At the end of the first book I thought he would be a villain. In this book I like him and even cheered for him at the end.
Percefany was every bit as good as book 1, but she loses points as she ended the book with the same twist ending as the last book for the same reasons just on a larger scale.
Overall, I recommend the book if you liked the first. I expected a war between humans and elves and I really only got planning. But I enjoyed it never the less.

And even if the clans can join forces, how will they defeat an enemy whose magical prowess renders them indistinguishable from gods? The answer lies across the sea in a faraway land populated by a reclusive and dour race who feel nothing but disdain for both Fhrey and mankind.

Liked it, but it does stand on its own
Revisado: 03-20-20
I love all the books in this series. Sullivan is a great writer you should read this book. I unfortunately had to dock it points as the book doesn't really stand on its own without the rest of the series. There isn't really a overcome challenge or a character arch. It's really just a fun bonus tale before the series. I would not recommend reading this first.

I liked this alot, but...
Revisado: 03-16-20
Let me start off saying I really liked this book. The book's presented villian was one of the best I've ever read in any book. The villian is powerful and intelligent, best of all he presents a moral dilema for the heroes.
My critisms are of the final villian. The big bad should feel like that, instead I felt he was tacted on at the end of the book. They defeat him, I guess. Even the characters aren't sure they won. I found that unsatisfactory, he just went away. It was either a setup for a sequel or a desire for the author to have an overly happy ending.
