MacGruber in space

If you are a fan of Will Forte you will enjoy the story. It is essentially just MacGruber as a captain of a spaceship.

Of Limited Value

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
The story concept had enormous potential but the characters were flat and unimaginative, the dialog was made-for- TV action movie quality and the never ending descriptions of guns the character was using was nothing less than annoying.
Would you ever listen to anything by Larry Correia again?
I like to read the author bio after I have read the book as to not bias my opinion of the story and had I know about his interest in guns and shooting the non stop talk of guns in the book might have made sense. I will avoid other books by the author because I expect his others offer the same over abundance gun descriptions and lack of story development.
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
The only redeeming quality of the book was the overall concept. An open ended story line of a private business that hunts a variety of monsters around the world for bounties while bumping heads with the Feds has lots of possibilities. Had it been left in the hands of a more creative author it would have the potential for a long and exciting series.
Any additional comments?
We are asked throughout the book to believe the lead character is a intelligent and misunderstood man who just wants to blend in to society and leave his warrior urges behind him but through the entire story we are given zero examples of him solving any issues through intellect or emotional calling. Time after time he escapes by the skin of his teeth due to dumb luck or more often having the right gun for the job. If the author had given a fraction of the time he gave to describing every gun he had ever wanted to shoot to instead develop his lead character into something interesting but as it is the book is simply a love note to his gun collection wrapped around a basic monster story.
