Revisado: 04-24-24
This series has been a lot of fun. It keeps going with bigger stakes each time. If you like book 1 you'll like book 10.

Big Shift from Original
Revisado: 04-24-24
I really liked book 1. Book 2 was just too jumbled at the beginning. I was able to keep up with it, but that aspect got repetitive and went on SOOO SOOO long. The climax was felt like a non stop jump from one movie scenario to another. I don't think i'll continue on with the series. Which is a shame because I love book series that go for dozens of books.

Easiest Zombie Apocalypse to survive ever!
Revisado: 12-31-22
Let me preface this by saying I've read a LOT of zombie stories. So when I say this is one of the worst I've ever experienced there is weight behind those words. I got the 3 book set because I knew I'd have some time over the holidays to listen to them. There is so much wrong with these stories.
The first problem is everything is handed to the protagonist. Zombie apocalypse coming? Random fully stocked shelter given to you. Lonely? 3 friends literally wash up next to you. Enough supplies to stay for years? Well lets fly far away for no really good reason. Need to get part way across the country? No problem just fly, and also save people along the way. Nearly every problem in this book is solved with little or no resistance. It's so dull. I'm not an author but I know to get people invested in characters you have to beat your protagonists up. This never happens for the main character. They get "lucky" so often that they mention it in the book. When they're leaving their safety "we are crazy but we just gotta try and help out" . . .
Skip this one... there are tons of other series that are far more interesting than this.

It'll kill some time
Revisado: 08-25-22
I downloaded this with 0 expectations. It's not a super original idea for a plot, but there is an ensemble cast which helps you keep track of characters more easily. But the story builds and then when you get to the climax it's sorta "Meh" and the story ends with sequel bait. IT feels like another one of these audible titles Amazon is debating whether or not to option into a full TV show with the same cast. If you're kind of bored with a low bar it's serviceable. But I'm not chomping at the bit for the sequel.

The problem with lying about having a super weapon is that the bad guys might believe they have nothing to lose by doing something stupid that both sides will regret. Or, they might just call your bluff. Either way, the Merry Band of Pirates need a plan to deal with the Fallout.

2/3's great 1/3 hard to care about
Revisado: 08-02-22
I feel like the series has really re-established itself after a wain in interesting content towards the middle. The biggest fault I have with this book is about 1/3rd is dedicated to "The Mavericks". I listened to a few of those books, but JUST DIDN'T CARE. They said it most accurately in one of the last few books; something to the effect of "Mavericks go fight the war on the ground, up here we do what matters." So while whatever they are doing is sort of important, I don't care about those characters. So the idea of merging them into the Skippy narrative is annoying. Outside of that it was more galactic politics and lowly monkies trying to not get exterminated.

Historia
Already cited on the floor of Congress and discussed in the corridors of the Pentagon as a book all Americans should read, One Second After is the story of a war scenario that could become all too terrifyingly real. Based upon a real weapon - the Electro Magnetic Pulse (EMP) - which may already be in the hands of our enemies, it is a truly realistic look at the awesome power of a weapon that can destroy the entire United States.

A Hard Look at what Could Go Wrong
Revisado: 02-17-20
This story is both a warning and a bummer. It is not happy, and looks with pretty good accuracy at what would happen to the world with an EMP event. It's good but with all these stories there are practical things that seem to go over looked. At the end of the book it will make you want to go and start prepping for this type of emergency.

Keep the Books Separate!
Revisado: 02-17-20
So I'm 6 books in to the series and I feel as if after about book 3 they feel like they're getting to be repetitive. This book decides to dedicate the first 1/2 of the book to the B team. If i wanted their story I would've read their books. But I don't care about them, they don't add much to the narrative. The over arching plot gets moved forward but just barely. . . SO I wouldn't say this is a very good addition to the series. I have maybe 1 more of these in me before I call it quits.

Nothing ever goes wrong for the protagonist!
Revisado: 02-01-19
This book is far to long and boring. About 1/3 of the way through the book you realize no matter what happens, it'll work out some how for the protagonist. He's the best, smartest, and winningest guy in any room he enters. It doesn't matter how bad something looks it'll always work out for him in some way. Which stinks.

Historia
John Perry did two things on his 75th birthday. First he visited his wife's grave. Then he joined the army. The good news is that humanity finally made it into interstellar space. The bad news is that planets fit to live on are scarce—and alien races willing to fight us for them are common. So: we fight. To defend Earth, and to stake our own claim to planetary real estate. Far from Earth, the war has been going on for decades: brutal, bloody, unyielding. Earth itself is a backwater.
