Historia
Only two people know that 1930s society man Lamont Cranston has a secret identity as the Shadow, a crusader for justice. One is his greatest love, Margo Lane, and the other is fiercest enemy, Shiwan Khan. When Khan ambushes the couple, they must risk everything for the slimmest chance of survival...in the future. A century and a half later, Lamont awakens in a world both unknown and disturbingly familiar. The first person he meets is Maddy Gomes, a teenager with her own mysterious secrets, including a knowledge of the legend of the Shadow.

Seemed shallow and I didn't like the pacing
Revisado: 08-10-21
All the characters seemed to lack depth... I think that is consistent with the old radio show, but that seems a little childish for a novel... Also, it seems like the shadow doesn't even understand how his powers work, but he was trained I thought. That seems inconsistent. I think I could have ignored that if the story was more gripping, but I just found myself mildly interested.

Not as good and too short
Revisado: 01-07-18
I loved “Confessions” and “Origins”. “Secrets” was pretty good, but seemed more like a short story. This felt like a half story. Very little happens. And lots of questions were left open. I guess that makes is more like a comic book, but it isn’t what I expect from a published book.
Maybe I’ll wait until the series is finished before buying anymore.

I really enjoyed this story. It was fun and well-paced. The characters were enjoyable, and nothing about the book took itself too seriously. It is a very funny book.

Historia
In his most ambitious work to date, Thomas L. Friedman shows that we have entered an age of dizzying acceleration - and explains how to live in it. Due to an exponential increase in computing power, climbers atop Mount Everest enjoy excellent cell phone service, and self-driving cars are taking to the roads. A parallel explosion of economic interdependency has created new riches as well as spiraling debt burdens.

First half was great
Revisado: 09-29-17
The first half of this book was fascinating, scary and eye-opening. I really feel like it changed the way I viewed the world, technology and the trouble in the middle east.
The second half was good, but it got very long-winded and nostalgic. It is interesting that so many people came from his home town, but seemed incongruous with the whole first half. I know he tried to make a connection to the two, but I didn't like/buy it.

Historia
Three months have passed since the fateful encounter in New York City that ended with the disappearance of Bill Ryder - gamer, geek, and legendary vampire. Now he's back - reawakened halfway across the globe with no allies, clothing, or clue as to how he got there. The only thing he's certain of is that his captors plan to use him for their own nefarious ends and don't care how much blood they spill in the process.

Getting Tired
Revisado: 09-29-17
Honestly, I just don't think there is enough story here. I keep thinking there will be an end to this series, but it never comes.
I enjoyed the first few. It was neat how they turned some of the vampire stereotypes sideways. I liked the characters and the 'family' (Sally, Ed and Bill) they built was neat.
The first couple books felt like stand alone stories, but now they just feel like really long comic book issues.

Historia
Can an epic adventure succeed without a hero? Andra Watkins needed a wingman to help her become the first living person to walk the historic 444-mile Natchez Trace, as the pioneers did. She planned to walk 15 miles a day for 34 days. After striking out with everyone in her life, she was left with her disinterested 80-year-old father. And his gas. The sleep apnea machine and self-scratching. Sharing a bathroom with a man whose gut obliterated his aim.

I love when the Author reads their work
Revisado: 12-15-15
What did you love best about Not Without My Father?
This was clearly a deeply personal book... All of the characters were realistically flawed, but very likable. It made me reflect my familial relationships.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Not Without My Father?
I liked all of the interaction with people along the Trace... My favorite was when a shoe salesman said something like, "There is no cushion that will cure crazy..." That made me laugh out loud...
Have you listened to any of Andra Watkins’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
No
Any additional comments?
I really like when the author reads their work. They know exactly what they meant and it brings an additional depth to the words. I really enjoy it when Neil Gaiman reads his work and the same goes for Andra Watkins.

It's just slow
Revisado: 07-30-12
I want to like these books, and they are pretty good, but they are just so darn slow. I guess, since Nicholas Flammel is mentioned in Harry Potter, I thought these books would be almost as good. They are not. I like all the mythical references, and I especially like the Reference to Musashi Myomoto in this book, but just because the author chooses interesting characters, doesn't mean the story is not important. I want to finish the series, but honestly it seems to drag on.

Historia
For decades we have been taught that fat is bad for us, carbohydrates better, and that the key to a healthy weight is eating less and exercising more. Yet despite this advice, we have seen unprecedented epidemics of obesity and diabetes. Taubes argues that the problem lies in refined carbohydrates, like white flour, easily digested starches, and sugars, and that the key to good health is the kind of calories we take in, not the number.

This changed the way I look at food!
Revisado: 03-16-12
The information in this book was completely new to me. The things that we take for granted about food are not true (or at least unproven). This book was an exhaustive look at food and health, in particular the diseases of civilization. Very interesting stuff, but it is exhausting to listen to. The amount I learned made up for the excessive explanation and evidence... On the other hand i am not sure I would have been convinced with less evidence.

It isn't easy, being a teenage pharaoh. You're not allowed to carry money, uninhibited young women peel your grapes for you, everyone thinks you're responsible for making the sun rise and the corn grow, you keep dreaming about seven thin cows and seven fat cows (one of them playing the trombone), and on top of everything else, the Great Pyramid has just exploded because of paracosmic instability.

Terry Pratchett is hilarious
Revisado: 03-16-12
All of the disk world stories are fun. I liked the additional insight into the assasin's guild. I would love to have a list of all the character's names in the disk world... I think this had a little bit better love story then most... Not that that is critical to the story, but it adds additional depth. As i am writing this review, I can' remember a lot of the details of the story, but I remember liking it... That may give you some insight into what kind of story this is. Fun interesting fluff.

What did you love best about Star Wars: Darth Plagueis?
The story was consistent with everything I know about star wars, and the narrators voice was just short of James earl jones himself...
What was one of the most memorable moments of Star Wars: Darth Plagueis?
I don't want to give away any of the story, but it was good all the way through
