Here, for the first time, Ina Garten presents an intimate, entertaining, and inspiring account of her remarkable journey. How Lucky Is That?
Revisado: 01-24-25
Ina Garten’s fresh approach to her memoir makes it seem as easy as she makes cooking seem. Her honesty and vulnerability made her story highly relatable and her charming sense of humor made me feel like I truly saw her.
I really enjoyed her narration of the audiobook version. Listening to her tell the story of her childhood, early adult life and getting started in business was fascinating. She has had a life blessed with opportunities that she turned into successes through her dedication and hard work.
The audio book is wonderfully narrated by the author. I highly recommend this engaging, relatable and inspiring memoir. Ms. Garten's story showcases how hard work and dedication can change a chance into an achievement.

Historia
Deborah Harkness first introduced the world to Diana Bishop, an Oxford scholar and witch, and vampire geneticist Matthew de Clermont in A Discovery of Witches. Drawn to each other despite long-standing taboos, these two otherworldly beings found themselves at the center of a battle for a lost, enchanted manuscript known as Ashmole 782. Since then, they have fallen in love, traveled to Elizabethan England, dissolved the Covenant between the three species, and awoken the dark powers within Diana’s family line.

Character Driven
Revisado: 01-17-25
I've been a long time fan of this series, but I must say I was disappointed in this book. As with Time's Convert, Black Bird Oracle is more character driven than plot driven. While it was interesting to learn the author's perspective on Diana's Procter relatives, the characters I've come to love, Diana and Matthew, moved backward in their development and relationship.
There were several opportunities to punch up the plot, but the author took the easy way out and every conflict was too easily resolved. The book doesn't end on a stereotypical cliff hanger, but it is clear that the author didn't "finish" the story and a sixth book will be published.
Beautifully narrated by Jennifer Ikeda. Gorgeous cover.

Historia
A best seller in the UK and a memoir every bit as warm and welcoming as a visit to your very favorite bookstore. Inside a stone-faced Georgian townhouse on the Wigtown highroad, jammed with more than 100,000 books and one portly shop cat, Shaun Bythell manages the ups and downs of Scotland's largest used bookshop with a sharp eye and even sharper wit.

Quirky Charxcters and Small Town Life
Revisado: 04-02-24
I enjoyed the continuation of Shaun Bythell’s journal/diary entries regarding the running of his bookshop and the many quirky townsfolk and employees. Especially droll are the customers who are either haggling Mr. Bythell out of business or trying to use his shop as a library.

Highly Enjoyable
Revisado: 02-18-24
I loved the diary-entry layout of the story. The narrator is easy to listen too, and I felt I was visiting Scotland. The story immersed me in a small village in Scotland where I could easily see myself visiting the bookshop regularly. I felt the damp chill of the long winter along with the summery tourist season.
I’m looking forward to continuing this series.

I had not read the prior two books in the series, but I don’t think that is necessary to enjoy this novella. I have been inspired to pick them up because I very much enjoyed the author’s writing and the characters.

Cute story about second chances and finding true love. I really enjoyed the silliness of some of the scenes, and the characters are great. Nothing too serious, just good fun.

Fun Mystery
Revisado: 11-27-23
I adore the character Hamish MacBeth, and his exploits as a Highlands police officer are always fun. The mystery never seems small town but the way Hamish solves the mystery does frequently feel like he is a small town sleuth. Good story and good narration.

Historia
It’s rumoured that Dickens wanted to return to his classic novel Oliver Twist, to bring him back into a later book as an older character, but he never managed this before he died. However, if Oliver had returned, what would he have been like? Would the scars of his childhood affect the man he would become? And what of ‘Dodger’, sent to a land halfway around the world, his friend, mentor and master dead because of Oliver? Dodge & Twist is that story. The tale of two boys, 12 years later, returning into each other’s lives - for both good and bad.

Interesting spin on a classic
Revisado: 11-27-23
I enjoyed the creative storyline. However, I’m not a fan of the acting of a story by multiple actors like on an old time radio program. The narrators were good; I just don’t care to listen to a book that way.

Historia
Why did Agatha Christie spend her career pretending that she was "just" an ordinary housewife, when clearly she wasn't? Lucy Worsley's biography is not just of a massively, internationally successful writer. It's also the story of a person who, despite the obstacles of class and gender, became an astonishingly successful working woman. With access to rarely seen personal letters and papers, Lucy Worsley's biography is both authoritative and entertaining and makes us realize what an extraordinary pioneer Agatha Christie was—truly a woman who wrote the twentieth century.

I am a fan of both Agatha Christie and Lucy Worsley’s, and the two combined is a no-brainer add to my reading list. The author provides a thorough history of Ms. Christie-both personally and professionally. Ms. Worsley’s narration made the listen even more interesting.
