Again, the production is poor
Revisado: 02-27-25
Much like book 4 in this series, the production is very uneven between the narrators. One of them (Mustang) clearly has not been high passed, and thus has a lot of low frequency noise that is just distracting. Knowing that it’s literally a one minute fix, if even that, it just feels extremely cheap that it’s not taken care of. The volume is also very low, over all.
There is also one narrator (Ephraim) who doesn’t really do a good job differentiating between the characters, making it more complicated to follow along.

Really sloppy production
Revisado: 01-11-25
The book is good. A nice installment in the series (albeit probably the least standalone one so far). But the production is really sloppy. The narrators all have very different sounds to their recordings, and even the volume differs a lot. For some reason, in the middle of the book, the titles of the chapters are no longer read out loud for a few chapters. This really should have been better.
Some of the narrators also fails to differentiate between the different characters, which makes it more difficult to follow along.

Historia
Ian Fraser Kilmister was born on Christmas Eve, 1945. Learning from an early age that chicks do appreciate a guy with a guitar, and inspired by the music of Elvis and Buddy Holly, Lemmy outgrew his local bands in Wales, choosing instead to head to Manchester to experience everything he could get his hands on. And he never looked back. White Line Fever, a headbanging tour of the excesses of a man being true to his music and his pleasures, offers a sometimes hilarious, often outrageous, but always highly entertaining ride with the frontman of the loudest rock band in the world.

Would have done well with a British narrator
Revisado: 12-28-23
As a huge Motörhead fan I very much appreciate hearing Lemmy’s life story in his own words. But the narration leaves a lot to be desired. There are lots of mispronunciations, that could have been easily avoided if the narrator was a native speaker of British English (or with some better research). There are also quite a lot of mistakes in the editing. Many sentences are repeated.

Mediocre writing, bad production
Revisado: 12-14-23
The production is unusually bad in this one. Lots of loud breathing heard, and for some reason the chapters don’t have names in the table of contents. This all seems like easy fixes, so it feels very cheap that they didn’t do it.
The stories are ok for the most part, but the writing is mediocre. Long parts are just narration of scenes from the movies, complete with verbatim dialogue and everything. Feels a little lazy.

Full of deepities, but very little substance
Revisado: 07-27-23
The main character in this book is certainly not a philosopher. As such his thoughts about the world, even as he faces his own mortality, seem trivial at best and plainly false at worst. Insofar as there is any profundity to be found here, in the last two chapters perhaps, even this short book make the journey to get to it feel overly long.
The language is prosaic to the point of feeling a little plain. That in and of it self is not a bad thing, but when the substance is this thin it would have been nice to have something more stirring in terms of the form, to hold on to along the way.

Historia
Love might not be what we think it is. We all seek the happiness that comes from loving and being loved, yet we often find ourselves dissatisfied in our relationships and unable to grasp the cause. Thich Nhat Hanh here shows the way to overcome our recurrent obstacles to love - by learning to be mindful, open, and present with ourselves and others. As he explains, "training is needed in order to love properly; and to be able to give happiness and joy, you must practice deep looking directed toward the person you love."

I wish the description would have stated more clearly that this book is targeted to (American) christians. As a non-american non-christian it felt at times as if to book spoke directly to someone who is very clearly not me.

Truly an awful thing to do!
Revisado: 05-17-23
I have no idea what led up to the decision to make an abridged version of this audiobook, but I can’t imagine that it makes anything better for anyone. And to not put the information that it’s abridged front and center (as in in the title of the book) is beyond bad. To my mind it constitutes actively trying to fool us the customers.
It’s as if the people who made this have never come across an audiobook before. The chapters are way too long, and the narrator doesn’t even say when a new chapter starts.
The narrator also invents his own voices for lots of characters that already have well established voices, and it makes listening both difficult and confusing. I’m not saying Marc Thompson should be the only one allowed to narrate Star Wars book, but you should at least make an effort to strive for continuity.
This is by far the worst experience I’ve had since becoming an Audible customer. I absolutely 100% recommend everyone to stay away from this audiobook. It’s an insult to all of us that it exists. Audible should be ashamed that they’ve published this.

Extremely condescending
Revisado: 12-17-22
The author appears to have a very shallow understanding of lots of things from exercise and sports to music and science, but he’s very quick to belittle all those things anyway. A sad and bitter mind is behind this book, and I’m not tempted in the least to follow the philosophy it proposes.

From the start I was thinking about how many of my friends would really not like this book, being so full of math and science, but for me it was a veritable nerdgasm the whole way through. And the performance was absolutely top class. Probably my favorite audio book.

The producers clearly don’t care about the listener
Revisado: 06-22-22
This feels like when you start buying a series of physical books, and they change the size of the books half way through, so they don’t match in the bookshelf. Just a sloppy production, with far too many errors, that could have been easily fixed, to be enjoyable, even though the story is still engaging.
The High Republic series is presented as a well organized project, where all the creators work together to create a cohesive whole. That clearly doesn’t include the audiobook department, since they can’t even be bothered to have names be pronounced the same from one book to the next. It’s more than a bit insulting to us, the paying customers, that they don’t care more than that.
