Simply Amazing
Revisado: 10-05-21
There should be more stars to rate this wonderful account of the life of the Obama family from Chicago to the Whitehouse. Part way through the audio version I started to think that I would like to have a printed copy to check back on things I would like to review again. I ordered the paperback and I was so glad that I did since it contains marvelous photos of events and characters in the audible book. It's the first time I was sorry that a President is limited to only 2 terms. So interesting to learn the behind the scene workings of the Whitehouse. I hope the Obama family continue to have wonderful lives.

Historia
At the height of WWII, five idealistic young Americans receive a mysterious letter from the OSS, asking them if they are willing to fight for their country. The men and women from very different backgrounds - a Texan athlete with German roots, an upper-crust son of a French mother and a wealthy businessman, a dirt-poor Midwestern fly fisherman, an orphaned fashion designer, and a ravishingly beautiful female fencer - all answer the call of duty, but each for a secret reason of his or her own. They bond immediately, in a group code-named Dragonfly.

Historia
When 14-year-old Zoe Johnson doesn't come home on a Monday night in early December, the alarm bells in Kings Lake Central police station do not ring straight away - after all, she's from the Dockmills, one of the toughest estates in the town. But for Detective Sergeant DC Smith, due to retire in just three weeks' time, there are some strange echoes of the case that has haunted him for the past 13 years. Maybe it's simply his over-developed sense of irony, or maybe, in his final days as a police officer, Smith must look once more into the eyes of a serial killer.

Enjoyed the book from the first page to the last. Loved learning the history of The Dakota, both at its building and then 100 years later. Characters are interesting and believable.

Historia
Something sinister is going on in Baronville. The rust belt town has seen four bizarre murders in the space of two weeks. Cryptic clues left at the scenes - obscure Bible verses, odd symbols - have the police stumped. Amos Decker and his FBI colleague Alex Jamison are in Baronville visiting Alex's sister and her family. It's a bleak place: a former mill and mining town with a crumbling economy and rampant opioid addiction. Decker has been there only a few hours when he stumbles on a horrific double murder scene.

Reminiscent of God in a Cup and The Devil's Cup, this is an inside look into the modern business of making coffee. But rather than a general history, Coffee for One focuses on the revolution that made single serve the most popular way to consume coffee worldwide, and the competition and conflict that got us here.

Wonderfully researched and written. I think I learned so much about the history of coffee from where it is grown to how it is processed. Wonderful insight into how the one cup pod came to be and the struggles that it met along the way. Excellent.

I loved all 3 of the short mystery stories contained in this book. Good story lines and the main characters are well developed and work smoothly together. Having lived in England for 3 years I enjoy revisiting the people and place I came to love. I hope there will be more stories from this delightful English Village.

Historia
A highly decorated captain in the U.S. Army, Luis Montalvan never backed down from a challenge during his two tours of duty in Iraq. After returning home, however, the pressures of his physical wounds, traumatic brain injury, and post-traumatic stress disorder began to take their toll. In constant physical pain, he soon found himself unable to climb a simple flight of stairs or face a bus ride to the VA hospital. He drank; he argued; he cut himself off from those he loved. Then Luis met Tuesday, a beautiful and sensitive golden retriever....

In pitch-perfect voices, Kathryn Stockett creates three extraordinary women whose determination to start a movement of their own forever changes a town, and the way women—mothers, daughters, caregivers, friends—view one another. A deeply moving novel filled with poignancy, humor, and hope, The Help is a timeless and universal story about the lines we abide by, and the ones we don't.

Best Ever!
Revisado: 07-31-11
This is one of the best books I have listened to. Our son had sent me the hard copy and I started reading it, but was intriqued by how the Audible readers
would interpret the dialects. I fell in love with the characters and really hated to see the book end. It deserves more than 5 stars! Wish there was more.
