Surprising Loved the Whole Series

Not sure how it hooked me but one of the few Romance Oriented novels I have thoroughly enjoyed. It has a reasonably solid story, a few amusing Romance Story Tropes, and just enough magical mischief to keep things rolling.

As a whole there are a few rough spots but easily forgivable given how much I enjoyed the series overall. Good action bits and the main character is integrated into a wild world of magic and fitted to the world across multiple books. Enough drama to keep the romantic aspects interesting and the characters feeling like humans with contradictions and problems.

Dumpster fire of Inbreeding and Weird Eugenics

The Narrator makes some clumsy tone choices and accents but overall does an ok job. Tough material to do a reading for.

Having read the Valor series of novels by Huff I had high hopes for this book. Turns out I should have read the low reviews first. To say I am disappointed is a gross understatement. I would ask for my money back but that isn't going to happen. Avoid this book at all costs.

It is almost like Huff forgot how to write. We get a snippet of something right at the start then we are whipsawed to the disgusting and weird toxic eugenic family scene in the very beginning. The tone of the family towards uncooperative men makes the "Aunties" commentary come across as a cluster of inbred backwoods hicks with a penchant for toxic and abusive behavior towards anyone who doesn't want to be a broodmare/stud.

This includes the implications of forcefully changing a gay man into not being gay. Seriously? Magical conversion therapy for a family Eugenics project? Can just call this group Kentucky Death Eaters and get to something better.

The casual mention of family inbreeding is gross. The lazy romance attempts are worse. They could honestly cut out the bad romance and Eugenic Inbreeding and focused on the magic shop and its weirdness and we would have a way better story.

Even the main character is unlikeable and gross for going along with the "aunties" schemes in one form or another.

Seriously, what the hell happened? We know you are a way better writer than this.

Krout has failed.

Not only is the story clumsy the main character has become ridiculous and awkward at best. It feels like the storyline we started with got left behind in the last zone. The story is suffering from Power Creep so badly it feels pointless, boring, and predictable. The last straw is the weird Elon Musk fanboying inserts in the story.

The narrator's delivery is almost too hammy and some of the emphasis on various lines is a bit much.

Narrator is Great Characters suck

The tinfoil-hatted technophobic main character is unbelievably stupid beyond reason. Ruins the story with non-stop drooling stupidity.

Bray did his best but sometimes it's not enough.

Staged debate was obnoxious

The logic and debate in most of the books is generally weak but the "debate" at the hearing in this book is sloppy to say the least. It could have been easily been picked apart by a Highschool Freshman debate team.

Narrator does poorly

Seriously, audible needs to do a quality control check before putting material up. The lack of proper pronunciations in this piece is maddening. The creators delivery is lacking to say the least. I want a refund.

Cringe Inducing and Boring

The narrators did a good job. But seriously the cringe-worthy villain and even more cringe-worthy depictions of people around him was just not worth it.

Shallow Characters borrowing plot

The villains are more like obnoxious sound bites and political faction talking points, The heroes just bad. The plot feels shallow and boring. The world is not really formed into a coherent plot instead the reader is dropped into a hot mess of a story line.

The character isn't even out of the few chaptes and is a raging Mary Sue. The writing is ham fisted schlock.
