I’ve read several Dorsey books and as a Floridian, enjoyed them all. This was my first Dorsey audio book. The narration did not make it for me. He sounded like David Brinkley reading the news in the 70s. His voice for Serge was cartoonish, reminded me of Ricochet Rabbit. Maybe that’s how Dorsey wanted it read, but didn’t match what I thought Serge should sound like. That said, the Coleman voice and others were spot on.

A twist on a murder mystery, since the act was not witnessed and the victim was unknown. Beyond that, it was a bit predictable as to whodunit and how things would end up. Very heavy on the feels and very quick on the wrap up. Narrators were pretty good and dealt with the material well.

As a fan of Dervla’s writing, I jumped on this when it was available in Audible Plus. It felt like she couldn’t decide who the main protagonist would be, but finally settled on Noah. Or maybe she had to fulfill a commitment to a publisher and pounded this one out and hurried the ending. It’s a decent story, but one I feel she could have developed better. There were flashes of her A game, but just not up to the standards she’s set for herself. The performances were good.

Full disclosure, I have known the author for many years, but that only serves to inform my review, not tilt it. Ed Minyard provides an all too plausible story of how it may very well come to be that "the defecation hits the oscillating rotor" (a pure Minyardism). He writes with equal portions of experience, expertise, insight and imagination... and the imagination part is pretty well informed.

Complacency turns out to be a two-part tale. First, of how a well-planned and devastating series of attacks against the US is planned, carried out and reacted to. Second, of the stark reality of societal breakdown in a post-disaster reality. The overarching lesson here is in the title: complacency (as opposed to wise preparedness) severely deprecates your ability to survive any disaster.

As I finished this novel, the least complacent society on the planet, Israel, was caught off guard in an operation that contained many of the elements that Minyard warns about. It only serves to underscore Ed's warning and message. Beyond hurricanes, floods, earthquakes and solar flares, there are bad actors who want to create havoc or worse for their enemies. They are already among us in numbers that are sphincter-tightening. Live in denial and be complacent at your own peril.

Chilling, creepy, funny and engaging. Kepnes spins a first person tale of sociopathy, and there are several sociopaths to encounter. Fontana is so good it is scary.

My first Winslow book, and I enjoyed it. Joe Barrett is excellent, his accents and voices are terrific and add to the enjoyment. Good character development and a few surprises. We’ll get the next book in the series.

A very fine second story from Jack Carr. The redactions are not as distracting as others have indicated. A lot of attention to detail and backstories helps the listener understand the characters. Ray Porter terrific as always, despite mispronouncing Beaufort. His nuance and character voices are top shelf.

This one starts a bit slow, with the narrator’s monotone making it feel slower, but it builds momentum as it builds the characters and the plot. A little cynicism here, a little mysticism there, and you have an engaging formula. A good listen with a few parallels to the world we live in today. I’d bet you could name a few chicken counters you’ve come across or read about.

A great continuation of the Wasteland story. Ford is a master of pace and has added more than a few belly laughs, usually when Quinn is the storyteller. Kudos to the author! Can’t say enough about RC Bray’s performance. He is as good as it gets. The 2 minutes of his bloopers at the end only serve to remind us that he is actually fallible! Without providing any spoilers, I was not really surprised by the outcome, but anxiously await the third installment.

Ed Minyard tells a tale that stretches across 25 years and thousands of miles as he follows the career arc of the protagonist, Rob Anderson. It is Anderson’s integrity, calm and persistence versus the evil and corruption of the bad guys. His ability to deliver violence as necessary certainly exceeds that of the, much to the glee of this reader, though it is ho-hum to Anderson, who is well in touch with his capabilities.

The story is based upon a real life unsolved double murder and weaves in post-Katrina New Orleans, and sketchy actors in positions of public trust.

This reads like a very personal story, and one senses that a walk down a dark alley with Mr. Minyard at your side would feel very safe indeed. Give it a listen!
