Historia
Given the importance of what they do, and the controversies that often surround them, and the violent people they sometimes confront, it is remarkable that in the history of this country only four active federal judges have been murdered. Judge Raymond Fawcett has just become number five.... Nothing is as it seems and everything’s fair game in this wickedly clever new novel from John Grisham, the undisputed master of the legal thriller.

Disappointer
Revisado: 11-18-12
What would have made The Racketeer better?
A plot that might seem CLOSE to reality.
Would you ever listen to anything by John Grisham again?
Yes, he has written some really good stuff... especially the Painted House and I cannot say enough good about the book Bleachers. Both were excellent as are several others. The Innocent Man was incredible. I KNOW more excellent books are to come.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
He was ok but very slow. I read a review that said he listened on x2 and that would have been better.

Historia

Two days later, a man climbs up through a trapdoor in the floor of Sara’s apartment, claiming that he is the brother of her best friend and that he’s moving in. While Mike Newland is indeed telling the truth about his identity, his reason for being there reaches far deeper.

Moronic
Revisado: 02-07-12
What disappointed you about Scarlet Nights?
I expected an actual mystery, not a Harlequin ROMANCE. The premise was entirely preposterous.
What do you think your next listen will be?
Nothing from this author.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
Character voices lacking and the fake Southern accents on SOME but not all the characters from VA.
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
It started out promising and then got ridiculous.

Like the subject matter - don't like the narrator
Revisado: 08-16-10
I read about this book awhile back and was immediately intrigued. I really like the subject matter, but the narrator is monotone and offputting. I think this is one I might have to read in hard copy.

Not worth it
Revisado: 04-04-10
Very long, rambling and somewhat preposterous mystery. The reader frequently talks too rapidly as well. Not worth the time.

Some unnecessary characters...
Revisado: 09-04-09
I really enjoyed this book when the author stuck to the politics and life in pre-Castro Cuba. However, when she went off track with characters (Rachael K in particular) that really added nothing to the story, it got really boring.

Not a REAL small town...
Revisado: 08-05-09
The author just doesn't represent a small town the way it REALLY is. The police would NEVER have to identify themselves in a town of this size. EVERYONE would know them on sight and they would know everyone as well.
Yes, it was predictable and more importantly to me, it was unnecessarily gory in several places, but it is somewhat entertaining without any depth.
I differ, however, about the narrator. I really enjoyed her.

Hard to follow
Revisado: 06-22-09
Some books should be read and not listened to. I think this is one of them. The names all sound very similar to the untrained ear and the narrator is flat. I couldn't follow it at all and unfortunately probably will not finish it.
