Got a minute or two?
Revisado: 03-11-13
Chicken Soup for the Soul stories are short, entertaining and they never disappoint. If you've got a minute or two, you have time for some encouragement. How nice it is to listen to an inspirational story during lunch, or while you are getting your nails done. Everyone should have a collection of short stories on hand, and we all could use a reminder to think positive!

Historia
At 22, Cheryl Strayed thought she had lost everything. In the wake of her mother's death, her family scattered and her own marriage was soon destroyed. Four years later, with nothing more to lose, she made the most impulsive decision of her life: to hike the Pacific Crest Trail from the Mojave Desert through California and Oregon to Washington State - and to do it alone. She had no experience as a long-distance hiker, and the trail was little more than “an idea, vague and outlandish and full of promise.” But it was a promise of piecing back together a life that had come undone.

A Journey to Remember
Revisado: 01-28-13
Excellently narrated by Bernadette Dunne!!! Cheryl Strayed's journey to find herself is a captivating story full of self-reflection. As the crippling loose ends of her life slowly come together, Cheryl finds self-healing while hiking the PCT-Pacific Coast Trail.
I enjoyed joining her on the journey. I was far more afraid for her than she was for herself. The language was very well developed, at times capturing indescribable beauty, at times filling the air with a tirade of despondency. I don't find cursing entertaining, but the occasional cursing truly reflected the character without being obnoxiously overused.
As with all good stories, I hated for the journey to end. Just as Cherly ended her grueling days of hiking by reading in her tent, I ended my days comfortably, safely, tucked into bed, listening to her account of her time on the trail. It was a part of my day that I looked forward to for weeks. I feel sad that my nightly story has ended and want to go back to the woods, so Cheryl can tell me about what she has seen, and heard, and learned, and I can be shocked, and excited, and in awe of her adventurous spirit and bravery. The title "Wild" is perfectly describes this journey.

Historia
Since the introduction of dietary guidelines calling for reduced fat intake in the 1970s, a strange phenomenon has occurred: Americans have steadily, inexorably become heavier, less healthy, and more prone to diabetes than ever before. After putting more than two thousand of his at-risk patients on a wheat-free regimen and seeing extraordinary results, cardiologist William Davis has come to the disturbing conclusion that it is not fat, not sugar, not our sedentary lifestyle that is causing America’s obesity epidemic—it is wheat.

Life Changing!
Revisado: 01-22-13
I have been on a sabbatical from stress, and on a mission to listen to my body and find what foods bring my body health. There is a lot of knowledge to choose from, in a variety of formats that provided a hit and miss approach to my mission. When I discovered the book Wheat Belly, that was a "Eureka" moment! I have been applying the principals in the book, and my health is increasing.
I like that it is written by a cariologist, who has applied his medical knowledge to discovering answers to his own health mysteries, and that he has been applying his findings to his patients for the last 10 years. The background history, applied scientific knowledge, and patient case studies, are impressive.
Since I am not a Dr. who is skilled at pronouncing medical terms, this was the perfect book to listen to on Audible! Though it does contain technical information, it was very understandable, and at times quite humorous! Also I love that it comes with a PDF full of wheat free recipes. Yes, I have found this book to be life changing!

Historia
The Great Recession has shuffled Clay Jannon out of his life as a San Francisco Web-design drone - and serendipity, sheer curiosity, and the ability to climb a ladder like a monkey has landed him a new gig working the night shift at Mr. Penumbra’s 24-Hour Bookstore. But after just a few days on the job, Clay begins to realize that this store is even more curious than the name suggests. There are only a few customers, but they come in repeatedly and never seem to actually buy anything....

Still Thinking about this Book!!!
Revisado: 01-22-13
I am not much of a fiction reader; I prefer nonfiction most days, but occasionally I am drawn into a good story. I was hooked almost immediately, by the narrator's artful presentation and timing...and the main character, an intelligent, yet unemployed, geeky, introvert living in San Francisco working in a mysterious 24 hour bookstore, just piqued my interest. I am not a tech person, but I learned a lot from the technical conversations and descriptions of what it is like to be a Google employee and to view solving the problems of this mystery through high tech means. It was a wonderful, thought provoking adventure, and I learned things that have been beneficial in my everyday life. It has been months since I listened to this book, and I am still thinking about it regularly. I would definitely recommend it to my friends, and l plan to listen to it again.
