Historia
When Charlie Blair left Chicago behind—and her old life as Lauren Claybourne—for a gig in the Santa Cruz DA's office, things were supposed to be easier. Or at least nothing that a couple of Xanax and a tumbler of vodka couldn't handle. The plan had been working, until the murder of a local bail bondsman Shelly Hansen. Enter: hotshot prosecutor Erika Lorman, she of the stellar record and unfailing touch with juries, a veritable legend in her own right.

Great story, didn’t love the narrator
Revisado: 02-24-25
I almost stopped listening earlier on because the narrators specially Charlie didn’t do it for me. I was in for a great surprise when midway the story became very interesting.

I didn’t know much about her and liked hearing it from herself. As women we are measured by a different standard by society which and mostly by ourselves and our fellow women. She would have been an amazing president.

Instead, she gives birth to an angry baby girl with hair and skin the color of sand. Gripped by the certainty that her daughter is different—special—she names her Onyesonwu, which means "Who fears death?" in an ancient language.

Historia
Wired called Dr. Fei-Fei Li “one of a tiny group of scientists—a group perhaps small enough to fit around a kitchen table—who are responsible for AI’s recent remarkable advances.” Known to the world as the creator of ImageNet, a key catalyst of modern artificial intelligence, Dr. Li has spent more than two decades at the forefront of the field. But her career in science was improbable from the start. The Worlds I See is the moving memoir of a scientist coming of age as an immigrant in America who finds her calling at the forefront of the AI revolution.

What stood out most was the story
Revisado: 12-17-23
Intertwining her story with the onset that finally brought AI to the public makes this book enjoyable and relatable. I loved her use of the language and would read any research paper published by her if she uses that style LOL.

Romantic comedy
Revisado: 08-30-23
Listening to this book was like watching a romantic comedy in television. I like the Latino flavor mixed with the Irish pizzazz. I also liked the life lesson about how we make assumptions, judgments and conclusions about other people without ever stopping to put ourselves in their shoes. Very charming and entertaining love story.

Smart, humorous, and strikingly original essays by one of “America’s most bracing thinkers on race, gender, and capitalism of our time.” (Rebecca Traister) In these eight piercing explorations on beauty, media, money, and more, Tressie McMillan Cottom - award-winning professor and acclaimed author of Lower Ed - embraces her venerated role as a purveyor of wit, wisdom, and Black Twitter snark about all that is right and much that is wrong with this thing we call society.

Interesting point of view
Revisado: 01-02-23
I enjoyed Tressie’s writing style and found her views on beauty, social inequality, and politics very interesting. As an immigrant, I see things with a different lens. I find African Americans very different from black people from other parts of the world. After centuries of mistreatment and suffering, there is an almost genetic impediment for achievement. There are so many opportunities in this country but most of them seem to ignore them and just complain. I hope that will change with new generations and the way society is pivoting towards real equity, inclusion, acceptance and compassion.

Christmas gift from Audible
Revisado: 12-15-21
I didn’t want to spend the credit based on the bad reviews but decided to get it with the Christmas credit gift. It took time to get used to Caroline’s voice, it is very chirpy and high sometimes, it gets annoying. However, I enjoyed the humanity and flaws in all characters, even until the end. The intricacies of a long marriage, adult sons and daughters, mothers taking in too much for everyone’s sake. Also, I am a social tennis player and loved all the references to the sport. Nice gift Audible!
