Historia
Nicki Pearl is the perfect daughter - every parent’s dream. And that of strangers, too. Wherever she goes, she’s being watched. Each stalker is different from the last, except for one thing - their alarming obsession with Nicki. Nicki’s father is turning to someone who can protect her: retired private detective and ex-Navy SEAL Jon Lancaster. Unlicensed, and unrestricted, he plays dirty. But this case is unusual. Why so many men? Why this one girl? Does Nicki have something to hide? Or do her parents? Trawling the darkest depths of southern Florida, Lancaster faces a growing tide of secrets and deception.

unconvincing
Revisado: 01-19-25
I found myself distracted by several plot holes that seemed odd for a main character that was a Florida ex-cop (who quit the force because there was too much paperwork if he shot someone); specifically, I found the conflation of "arrested" and "convicted" odd for someone who worked in this area which happened a lot in the beginning. It might be that I am thinking too much, but it made it harder for me to enjoy when I kept questioning the main character's basic knowledge.

Jane and Vincent go to Long Parkmeade to spend time with Jane’s family, but quickly turn restless. The year is unseasonably cold. No one wants to be outside and Mr. Ellsworth is concerned by the harvest, since a bad one may imperil Melody’s dowry. Historia
Marius Valstar doesn’t know which is worse: the dead body in his greenhouse or the naked fae prince on his desk. The only rakes of interest to Marius are garden tools, not fae princes. Certainly not the arrogant, selfish fae prince he has the misfortune to have a history with. But when Prince Rakken turns up naked and bleeding in Marius’s college the same day a body appears in his greenhouse, scruples must take second place to solving a murder that could unravel the delicate balance between humans and fae.

witty banter and complex characters
Revisado: 07-29-24
I enjoyed this whole series, but I think this was my favorite due to the witty banter between Marius and Rake. the series captures a muthical place that reflects turn of the cemetery British moral standard (and the changing social expectations). The voice actor was excellent.

Great series, great banter and good performance
Revisado: 07-08-24
I really enjoyed Clara and Istevan's interactions and the sense of humor they have together. The narrator does a wide range of voices and the characters are well defined. It was an excellent exploration (and resolution to) the ongoing mystery throughout the series. Enjoying Kingfisher's humor.

Read 4 times and listened to this 2 times
Revisado: 06-08-24
This is the second book in The Warrior series. The Warrior series by KF Breen is among my top three favorites. I enjoy re-reading about once a year. Shanti is an incredibly interesting primary character and I really enjoy Breene's writing style (I think she is my favorite when it comes to humor striking a balance between humor and complex topics). I sometimes listen to the story but I have to say, the narrator makes very strange choices for some of the characters. she does a great job with the kids and the character named Sanders but, the voice for Shanti and her people is just weird. The cadence an intonation is off. I think she's trying to do a unique accent of some sort but I find it really distracting from the story. A lot of the humor in the writing gets lost because of the weird delivery.

Historia
For thousands of years, there has been a cycle: a Demon King rises and conquers, and a Hero is reborn a hundred years later to defeat him. Each time, civilizations are ground to dust beneath the Demon King's hordes, but humanity has remained secure in the belief that a Hero of legend will always save them. There's just one slight problem. It's only been 23 years since the Demon King's latest rise, and this time, he's already conquered more than half the world. If humanity simply waits for the Hero's return, there may be no world left for him to save.

the story is just a video game narration
Revisado: 06-04-24
the performance was fine., so this rating is not a commentary on that. the story was weak. the first hour was just a couple of kids chasing down slimes and killing them even though they were under absolutely no threat. they did this because they got points and were able to level up in some way. so basically it was a narration of Zelda. and that could actually be interesting but it was definitely a tell not show typewriting style. not for me

Humorous, well written and performance is great
Revisado: 03-24-24
I really enjoyed both the writing, which made me laugh, and the performance. Khristine Hver has become one of my preferred voice performers (she also did the Sin and Chocolate series by KF Breene). Kingfisher writes complex characters with salty wit, which I deeply enjoy. The author trained in anthropology and her understanding of human nature really comes through in her writing.
