Historia
Beginning in the 18th century with the building of St. Petersburg - a 'window on the West' - and culminating with the challenges posed to Russian identity by the Soviet regime, Figes examines how writers, artists, and musicians grappled with the idea of Russia itself - its character, spiritual essence and destiny. He skillfully interweaves the great works - by Dostoevsky, Stravinsky, and Chagall - with folk embroidery, peasant songs, religious icons and all the customs of daily life, from food and drink to bathing habits to beliefs about the spirit world.

Historia
Here is one of the greatest English comic novels read by incontrovertible king of English comic audiobook readers, Martin Jarvis. Three men, worried about their health and in search of different experiences, set off 'up the river' in a boat. Jerome's delightful novel, dating from 1900, paints a vivid picture of innocent fun.

A Fun Easy Listen
Revisado: 11-06-18
I have wanted to read/listen to the book for years. Perhaps the fact that it is a period piece is what added to my enjoyment. I always have several books going at the same time, and may require concentration and/or attention. This, on the other hand, is the type of audiobook you can lean back, close your eyes and enjoy. The narration was excellent and suited the style of the book. I am looking forward to reading the sequel at some point.

Historia
Still considered one of the best books ever written about bullfighting, Death in the Afternoon reflects Hemingway's belief that bullfighting was more than mere sport. Here he describes and explains the technical aspects of this dangerous ritual, and "the emotional and spiritual intensity and pure classic beauty that can be produced by a man, an animal, and a piece of scarlet serge draped on a stick."

Narrator Makes This Book
Revisado: 07-21-18
I recently finished Hemingway's "The Sun Also Rises," so I thought I would go ahead and read this book. I thought it was a novel, but not at all, rather a study on bullfighting. Reading the book as text was laborious, and I am certain I would have stopped after the first few chapters. Fortunately, I had the Audible version! I didn't realize until the credits that the narrator was Boyd Gaines, a well-respected Broadway actor. Mr. Gaines excellent narration managed to make a dry book interesting.

Good, But Would Be Better With Guide/Script
Revisado: 05-19-14
What made the experience of listening to 2000 russkih slov [2000 Russian Words] the most enjoyable?
The speaker's pronunciation is very clear and repeats the words or phrases twice. The amount of vocabulary for each topic is fairly extensive.
Would you recommend 2000 russkih slov [2000 Russian Words] to your friends? Why or why not?
I would recommend this audio book to intermediate or advanced students of Russian. The principal concerns: (1) there is no accompanying PDF with the text to follow along, so unless you have a fairly good command of Russian phonology you would not be able to write down the words that you want to remember with the correct spelling. (2) Without a PDF guide, you have now idea which topics are presented nor where they are on the file.
What does Eugene Tarasov bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Very good pronunciation/diction.
