Be sure of what you are looking for.
Revisado: 06-30-24
If you are looking for a space battles and tactics, or space exploration, this book is not for you. This story is well written and performed. This is a very good book about starting a new endeavor and all the small obstacles that occur. The author did an excellent job laying the foundation for what is to come. I have no doubt that the next book in the series will be faster paces with well-established personalities.

Historia
We've come a long way in the forty years since the Shongairi attacked Earth, killed half its people, and then were driven away by an alliance of humans with the other sentient bipeds who inhabit our planet. We took the technology they left behind, and rapidly built ourselves into a starfaring civilization. Because we haven't got a moment to lose. Because it's clear that there are even more powerful, more hostile aliens out there, and Earth needs allies. But it also transpires that the Shongairi expedition that nearly destroyed our home planet ... wasn't an official one.

Another Weber Win
Revisado: 06-02-24
Good military tactics, good alien psychology, great character development and hilarious dialog. The little guys throughout the universe just got an ass kicking champion. There are a lot of wrongs to right and humanity will right them or die trying.
The only down side is that the narrator can't do a southern accent to save his life. So the southern guys tend to sound like they are from the east end or Ireland. oh well you can't have everything.

Historia
The Shongairi conquered Earth. In mere minutes, half the human race died, and our cities lay in shattered ruins. But the Shongairi didn't expect the survivors' tenacity. And, crucially, they didn't know that Earth harbored two species of intelligent, tool-using bipeds. One of them, long-lived and lethal, was hiding in the mountains of eastern Europe, the subject of fantasy and legend. When they emerged and made alliance with humankind, the invading aliens didn't stand a chance. Now, a select few blood-drinking immortals are on their way to the Shongairi homeworld.

DON'T PANIC
Revisado: 06-02-24
This is another Weber home run. Don't let the summary mention of vampires turn you off. Book two makes sense of it. I was afraid Weber had lost his mind but he was just being his usual brilliant self. You'll go from anger and outrage, to laughter, to grim determination, to cheering as the home team crosses the finish line.

Historia
The Grand Hotel is a horror novel by esteemed best-selling author Scott Kenemore ( Zombie, Ohio) that takes the reader on a thrilling ride through an interconnected series of stories narrated by the desk clerk and the residents of the hotel itself. And while it is not known whether or not the desk clerk is actually the devil incarnate, it is strange that so many visitors who come for a tour of the hotel have a way of never leaving.

I clicked this on a whim. I was hoping for something mildly entertaining. Excellent story. Fantastic narration. This is a story that does not just entertain, it makes you think. Some of the review I have read lead me to believe that some people either did not listen to the whole story or maybe didn't understand it. I highly recommend this book.

Historia
Writing for a local online magazine, Nora investigates the curious death of socialite Lola Grainger. Though it was deemed an accident, Nora suspects foul play. And it seems that her cat does too. Apparently, Nick used to belong to a P.I. who disappeared while investigating Lola Grainger's death. The coincidence is spooky, but not as spooky as the clues Nick spells out for her with Scrabble letters - clues that lead her down an increasingly dangerous path.

What disappointed you about Meow If It's Murder?
The narrator is very flat. With little to no inflection it sounds as if the words are going in the eyes and out the mouth but the narrator could not tell you what they had read. The story concept was good but I couldn't get past the narration.

Most folks associate the city of Salem, Massachusetts, with witches, but for Lee Barrett it's home. This October she's returned to her hometown - where her beloved Aunt Ibby still lives - to interview for a job as a reporter at WICH-TV. But the only opening is for a call-in psychic to host the late-night horror movies. It seems the previous host, Ariel Constellation, never saw her own murder coming.

Computerized narration is not acceptable.
Revisado: 01-22-16
Would you try another book from Carol J. Perry and/or C.S.E Cooney?
The audio publisher has used a cut and past narration of an actual narrator. The cut and paste aspect makes this very painful to listen to. There are portions of dialog that do not sound cut and paste, but the majority of the narration is painful to listen to. The story may or may not be worth listening to, but I could not stay with it long enough to tell.

What disappointed you about The Haunted Fixer-Upper?
The characters and the writing style are all over the map. 1 minute the main character is intelligent and halfway savvy the next minute a complete moron. The main character's significant other is a poorly used plot device that is ignored by the author over half the time. The narrator is good.
Has The Haunted Fixer-Upper turned you off from other books in this genre?
I have read other books in this genre and thoroughly enjoyed them. Thank goodness this was not my 1st book of this genre. Had it been the 1st book in the genre I had read I probably would have been turned off completely.
Would you listen to another book narrated by Margie Lenhart?
I enjoyed the narrator and she did the best she could with what she had to work with.
What character would you cut from The Haunted Fixer-Upper?
The character I would cut from this novel isn't in the novel it's the editor. Some authors need a good strong editorial hand to keep them on track, this is one of those writers.
Any additional comments?
If this is the 1st book you have read of this genre don't let it disappoint you too badly there are many good books and authors in this area. Please try again. I would recommend you try something from Molly Harper Juliet Blackwell. Both are good authors with a good sense of humor.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Not only what I recommend this book to a friend, I have recommended it to all my friends. Each book is an enjoyable story unto itself but, it really should be read from first to last. Characters are well-developed the space battles are excellent and the humor is very entertaining.
Who was your favorite character and why?
It is difficult to pick out single character as a favorite they all have their good points.
Have you listened to any of Mark Boyett’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
The narrator is very good and I have enjoyed all of the books that I have listened to where he has narrated.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Live free or die.
