Where has the real Cleo gone?
Revisado: 06-12-24
We are eight books in and Cleo still can't make a decision about Harry. When it comes to him, she stops being intelligent, confident, and decisive and turns into a wishy washy, stupid girl. It's frustrating and quite boring.
I really don't know how much longer I can deal with the "will they, won't they" trope.

Historia
Seventeen-year-old spirit medium Emily Chambers has a problem. Actually, she has several. As if seeing dead people isn’t a big enough social disadvantage, she also has to contend with an escaped demon and a handsome ghost with a secret past. And then there’s the question of her parentage. Being born an entire year after her father’s death (yes, a year), Emily is as much a mystery as the dead boy assigned to her.

Missed the mark... by a lot.
Revisado: 06-12-24
I was excited to start this book as C.J. Archer is a favorite author. Simply put, the book's bad, really bad. The title character, Emily, is a medium who holds seances with her sister. After one seance, Emily is approached by a ghost who tells her she and her sister unknowingly set a demon loose. She agrees to help catch the demon. And then a lot of nothing happens. Seriously, nothing that pushes the plot forward happens. For seven hours we don't hear about the demon and they make no attempts to catch the demon. Then the story is quickly wrapped up all nice and tidy. I don't think I can quite convey how awful this story was.

Revisado: 04-09-24
I’ve been a Jane Casey fan for years. I’ve weathered narrator changes and long spans between books. In this book, the writing is great and the plot twists perfect, as always. But that epilogue! Maeve has been to Hell and back. Ms. Casey, I ask you humbly, please let her have a win on this one.

To Phil + Kaja Foglio,
Revisado: 05-29-21
I love this book series! The character development is great. The numerous footnotes, which normally would annoy me, are well placed, informative and funny. Angela Dawes is an amazing narrator. She is not only the perfect Agatha, but also the perfect Gilgamesh, Tarvek, Castle, Violeta, Zetha and everyone else.
So I’m begging you to not wait another six years to release the next book. I would really, really appreciate it. Actually, all your fans would.

Edward did us no favors with this book’s ending. Makes me wonder if he’s getting bored with the series.
And what was with the “extra” for a book that was published a year and a half ago? Seriously strange.

Meh...
Revisado: 07-24-20
Like many other reviewers I too felt let down after finishing the book. It’s not on par with the other books in the series. Due to the weakness of the story and the huge amount of time between this book and the last, I have to wonder if Jim Butcher is simply over it.
There were definitely problems with the audio. Though they were easy for me to overlook. Much like the story, I found James Marsters overall performance weak. Did he too find the book weak and delivered a fitting performance? Also, when you change the voice of a character from book to book it’s very annoying. Yep, I’m looking at you Mab.

Historia
Slough House is a dumping ground for British intelligence agents who've screwed up cases in any number of ways - by leaving a secret file on a train or blowing a surveillance. River Cartwright, one such "slow horse", is bitter about his failure and about his tedious assignment transcribing cell phone conversations. When a young man is abducted and his kidnappers threaten to broadcast his beheading live on the Internet, River sees an opportunity to redeem himself.

Bitter and Petty
Revisado: 03-23-20
That’s how I would describe the main character. In addition, the story crawls along soooo sloooowwwly. Had to call it at 1 hour 40 minutes. Some reviews mentioned the story kicks in about half way through. Normally, I’d have stuck it out, except for two things, 1. the desire to slap the main character silly made that impossible. 2. The narrator is the sort that just pitches his voice higher for females which lends itself making the character flat and uninteresting. No thanks.

Historia
More than a year after she helped save the world from the Sparnaxian invasion, Andrea Vernon is in a good place. Her boss is giving her greater responsibility and she’s getting to travel a lot (although her fill-in is hopeless at making coffee); things could be getting even more serious with her 8’ 4” superhero boyfriend, The Big Axe; and she has a really fun new BFF, Never More. Small issue, though, with that last item - Never More is a supervillain bent on world domination, and it looks as if nothing can stop her.

Original, Funny & Great Narration
Revisado: 01-27-20
I reluctantly listened to the first book in this series. I should have never been reluctant. The story was engaging and the narrator is the BEST!
When this book came out I once again found myself reluctant. Decided to give it a try and admonished myself for not listening to it sooner.
This book is better than the first and Bahni Turpin is a master creating different characters.
Eagerly awaiting book 3! I promise not to be reluctant.

Historia
Photojournalist Abi Logan is finally ready to put her hectic career on hold and set down roots in the heart of the Scottish countryside. Studying the business and art of distilling whisky at Abbey Glen and volunteering at the Shepherd’s Rest women’s shelter in her spare time seem a surefire way to find the peace and stability she craves. It’s also the logical way to take her mind off her personal life. Abi’s business partner, Grant MacEwan, is facing a career-threatening disability, and as much as Abi longs to be there for him, he seems to prefer the company of a rival.

Photographer, Whiskey Distillery Owner, Investigator, Social Worker, Geriatric Sheep Minder...
The number of professions Abby thinks she's skilled at are far more than she actually is. She's been around a few murders and believes she can investigate them better than the police. She's far more confident in her abilites than she should be. It's obvious the police see her as nothing more than an annoyance when she tells them about an assault against her and they basically tell her she deserved it.
Abby is becoming a bossy, overly confident know it all and it's become boring.

Historia
Ashok Vadal was once a member of the highest caste in all of Lok. As a Protector, he devoted his life to upholding the Law, rooting out those who still practiced the old ways and delivering justice with his ancestor blade Angruvadal. None was more merciless than he in stamping out the lingering belief in gods and demons among the casteless. His brutality was legendary and celebrated. But soon Ashok learned that his life to that point had been a lie. He himself, senior member of the Protector Order, was casteless. He had been nothing more than an unwitting pawn in a political game.
