Can be a difficult read
Revisado: 10-25-20
I can remember reading this book more than four decades ago in school and not thinking anything of it. Now the brutality and abuse directed on the dogs is difficult to get through. I guess at this point in my life, and with all the intolerance and brutality raging in our society today, the idea of this kind of violence against any living creature is sickening. Maybe I will try again in a few years once we are through this reckoning.

Historia
The hardscrabble folks of Troublesome Creek have to scrap for everything - everything except books, that is. Thanks to Roosevelt's Kentucky Pack Horse Library Project, Troublesome's got its very own traveling librarian, Cussy Mary Carter. Cussy's not only a book woman, however, she's also the last of her kind, her skin a shade of blue unlike most anyone else. Not everyone is keen on Cussy's family or the Library Project, and a Blue is often blamed for any whiff of trouble.

Could not put it down !
Revisado: 09-15-20
What an amazing story. I couldn’t stop listening to this story of an extraordinary young Kentucky woman. As the story cane close to an end, I found myself being late to appointments ( and even work one time) as I’d lose track of time. My heart ached that such a sweet soul could be treated like a pariah, and I felt rage at the indignities and cruelties she bore. This was truly a beautifully written story, with the perfect narrator. Thank you also for the history lesson!

Perfect length for a long walk
Revisado: 09-02-20
This story held my interest until the end. And in the end was a surprise. I have made assumptions about the background and time. Of the story and was completely surprised at the end to learn the truth.
The short story is also perfect length for a long walk, one hour.

Historia
From the day that old Nana Reja found a baby abandoned under a bridge, the life of a small Mexican town forever changed. Disfigured and covered in a blanket of bees, little Simonopio is for some locals the stuff of superstition, a child kissed by the devil. But he is welcomed by landowners Francisco and Beatriz Morales, who adopt him and care for him. As he grows up, Simonopio becomes a cause for wonder to the Morales family, because when the uncannily gifted child closes his eyes, he can see what no one else can - visions of all that’s yet to come, both beautiful and dangerous.

Historia
At 22, Cheryl Strayed thought she had lost everything. In the wake of her mother's death, her family scattered and her own marriage was soon destroyed. Four years later, with nothing more to lose, she made the most impulsive decision of her life: to hike the Pacific Crest Trail from the Mojave Desert through California and Oregon to Washington State - and to do it alone. She had no experience as a long-distance hiker, and the trail was little more than “an idea, vague and outlandish and full of promise.” But it was a promise of piecing back together a life that had come undone.

Poor narration
Revisado: 03-18-20
Usually I wait until I’ve finished a book before leaving a review, but in this instance not. The story is so interesting and one that I’ve been looking forward to hearing. However the narration is so terrible I can only listen in small doses. It’s as if a robot was used instead of a person. What was the publisher thinking????

Historia
Often in a van, sometimes in a bus, occasionally in a car with broken wipers "using Bob's belt and a rope found by Paddy's Pond" to pull them back and forth, Alan and his bandmates charted new territory, and he constantly measured what he saw of the vast country against what his forefathers once called the Daemon Canada. In a period punctuated by triumphant leaps forward for the band, deflating steps backward, and everything in between.

Acknowledge your fears
Revisado: 01-18-20
Originally I thought this book was worth trying to help me cope with my ADHD. But I did not expect was for it to open my eyes to the reality of how much fear controls me to the point of sometimes paralyzing. It has given me the strength to finally see Counseling. Mel talks a lot about triggers in our lives; The stories in this book ended up being my triggers. Thanks Mel

Historia
In 1912, scientist Marie Curie spent two months on the British seaside at the home of Hertha Ayrton, an accomplished mathematician, inventor, and suffragette. At the time, Curie was in the throes of a scandal in France over her affair with Paul Langevin, which threatened to overshadow the accomplishment of her second Nobel Prize. Performed by Kate Mulgrew and Francesca Faridany at the Minetta Lane Theatre, this play by Lauren Gunderson is an ode to two remarkable women.

A powerful story of two women
Revisado: 12-29-19
A powerful story, especially in this era of “Me-Too”. Two brilliant scientists who happen to be women, experience an emotional bond that only women can survive. This is a time when a woman can win a Nobel prize, but is still considered property of her husband under the law and cannot yet vote. I was moved and inspired and I want to share this story with all the women in my life.
The performances of Kate Mulgrew and Francesca Faridany were fabulous! They brought these 2 women to life. Definitely my favourite of all the Audible Originals in my collection.

French made logical
Revisado: 06-14-19
This is by far the best language course I have ever taken. It is easier to understand why certain French language rules exist, as well as how to problem solve when you’re speaking. I grew up with French in school for all 12 grades and it was never presented in such a logical format. Excellent!
