Historia
New to Singapore and escaping a bad break up back in the UK, Tamsin’s attempts to settle in to her new surroundings are quickly disrupted when her building's speaker system crackles into life and an anonymous voice fills her glossy apartment. Things had been going well until her welcome drinks, a night that ended with her boss incapacitated in her bathroom. Although Tamsin will swear it was an accident, from the adjacent high-rise things looked altogether rather different.

I think I understand what the writer was going for but by the time we got to the end I felt disappointed. We went through all of that for this outcome? Like a balloon slowly deflating 😔🤦🏾♀️.

Historia
The next book in the perennially adored No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency series sees Precious Ramotswe calling upon all her maternal instincts when she's faced with a two-ton case. They say it takes a village to raise a child, but can Mma. Ramotswe and the rest of the No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency come together to raise a pipsqueak pachyderm? We may find out in this novel. We may not. Who can say?

Calling Ms. Lisette LeCat!
Revisado: 08-12-21
In all honesty, I was not able to get further than chapter 2, and I attempted to leave it blank, but an overall rating was required to submit. Why they went with this narrator, I probably will never know, but as long as nothing tragic has happened to LeCat, PLEASE BRING HER BACK to narrate the next book. I have listened to this entire series, but will attempt to return this one if I can 😔. I'm sure this narrator is fine for another book but NOT a well established series. I'm disappointed in the narration and disappointed that I would have needed an iron will to try to visit with a character who by now is an old friend. What in the world were they thinking?! 🤷🏾♀️

Serious Subject. Entertaining Story!
Revisado: 11-29-20
In light of what we all have just lived through, this shows an election where the listener may also be pulling for the wise, Apple pie baking, sometimes reluctant, ultra popular candidate: Grandma! I think any curious about the election process person would enjoy a listen to this smartly edited, not overwhelming 10 part story about a boy who writes a paper about how his grandma would be a great president. This audiobook takes us on the journey of what happens next! Listen to this story for 15-30 minutes until it is done, and on the final night get some apples or some Apple pie 😋.

Historia
We meet our narrator hanging around the nail salon where her mother works, eavesdropping on her conversation with one of the regulars, Helen. But she’s really hoping to see Helen’s daughter, Patty - older, rebellious, and completely captivating. When Helen invites her over to their house to help organize a home office, she jumps at the opportunity. But as the day goes on, she encounters something she shouldn’t and gets caught up in the sinister nature of other people’s property and private lives.

No character was likeable or memorable. The entire thing was like an incomplete sentence.
I am not smart, stupid, high or "other level" enough to have understood this. 🤷🏽♀️

Kraków, 1939. A million marching soldiers and a thousand barking dogs. This is no place to grow up. Anna Łania is just seven years old when the Germans take her father, a linguistics professor, during their purge of intellectuals in Poland. She's alone. And then Anna meets the Swallow Man. He is a mystery, strange and tall, a skilled deceiver with more than a little magic up his sleeve. And when the soldiers in the streets look at him, they see what he wants them to see.

The way it started is not the way it ended...
Revisado: 06-19-17
If I found out that two different people wrote this book, I would not be surprised. The first part was written with such love and care, the second part was detached. Touchless. There was (I felt) no care for Anna or the Swallow man. I don't know if this was the intent, or maybe just like a previous reviewer said - perhaps I'm just not smart enough to understand all of the highly praised fluff at the end. The swallow man would have been very disappointed I think.

Here at Audible, we know just how much of an impact a voice can have on a story - taking simple words and filling them with elation, wonderment, tragedy, or pure satisfaction. We rely on our narrators every day to bring our favorite stories and characters to life - to introduce us to new authors and genres, or even to a new (perhaps longer) commute. And though our narrators are the best story tellers in the business, it's usually someone else's that they're telling.

Cherished Holiday Memories
Revisado: 12-15-16
A quick delightful listen featuring the holiday memories of some of Audible's best narrators. It was so interesting to listen to these stories of people from all over...with nothing much more in common than a date that many of us pause to acknowledge. Stories of traditions both wacky and sacred. As different as we all are, we are still human beings. It is a shared experience. It is us taking a moment, to pay tribute to a time that in some cases does not exist anymore. Listening to these stories caused me to visit some of my own memories. It really was a treat. Thanks audible.

Meet Ove. He's a curmudgeon - the kind of man who points at people he dislikes as if they were burglars caught outside his bedroom window. He has staunch principles, strict routines, and a short fuse. People call him "the bitter neighbor from hell". But behind the cranky exterior there is a story and a sadness.

One of the Best I have heard this year!!
Revisado: 07-25-15
This year has been tough for me trying to find books to snuggle up with, and become a part of for a few days. This book heard my knock , opened the door and welcomed me with open arms - That was perhaps more Sonia than Ove, but he grew on me. I absolutely love the sense of community this book provides, I love that even though Ove struggles so hard with life, he doesn't stop trying, and when he has decided he has had enough, he couldn't even do that correctly. I wouldn't be surprised if Ove and his neighbor were Aspies, you know if they weren't characters in a book of course, but as frustrating as hearing all about the different makes of Saabs was, I plan to listen to this book again one day. I enjoyed it so much. If you need a book that's just a soft place to land - give this a listen.
