Historia
Drizella and Anastasia only know one thing for certain: they will never end up like their mother, Lady Tremaine. When their father left them as young girls, he took what was left of their family's fortune and their mother's dignity with him. A few years and one deceased stepfather later, the only version of Lady Tremaine that Drizella and Anastasia know is a bitter and cruel head of house. Anastasia and Drizella have promised themselves—and each other—that they'll be different. They'll find love, see the world, and never let their hearts go cold.

Lovely narrator but story falls flat
Revisado: 02-04-25
Note to anyone considering this book: It is a prequel to Cinderella. It is NOT a full retelling of the original story.
This narrator knows how to make distinct enough voices for each character, without it being distracting. The pacing is splendid and this was the first audiobook where I didn't feel the need to increase the reading speed. I genuinely want to look for more audiobooks that she narrates just to enjoy her talented voice acting.
Storywise, it's solid the first five hours and begins to fall flat on its face the final 3 and does it many, many times. This is a story showing how abuse and years of trauma can affect people who wanted nothing more than to receive kindness. However, Lady Tremaine's almost cartoonishly villainy created a Swiss cheese-levels of plotholes that made the story end on an incredibly weak note. I got this book on a two for one credit deal so I do not regret getting it. However, I could only recommend this story if Disney retellings are 110% your jam and I do not recommend it as your introduction to retellings.

Historia
In the last years of the dying Qing Empire, a courtesan is found frozen in a doorway. Her death is clouded by rumors of foxes, which are believed to lure people by transforming themselves into beautiful women and handsome men. Bao, a detective with an uncanny ability to sniff out the truth, is hired to uncover the dead woman’s identity. Since childhood, Bao has been intrigued by the fox gods, yet they’ve remained tantalizingly out of reach—until, perhaps, now.

Solid build-up and story.
Revisado: 12-21-24
The story is on the slower pacing, so I had to speed up the narration a little bit to keep my attention but considering this is my first taste into the genre, I'd take it with a grain of salt. The author being the narrator was perfect, as she could choose how names would be pronounced, what tone they should have, and give us intended personalities.
Believable world-building. Two stories slowly weaving together with foreshadowing. Top it off with revenge, hints of mythology, realistic character choices, and a diverse cast all with their own stories happening in the background, and it's a solid choice.
