Historia
Who is Audrey Hoedemaker? It's a question her sister Maureen has heard more times than she can count, and she doesn't know what the short answer would be. Little sister, troubled teen, backpacker, musical theatre coach, con artist, childcare worker. Murderer. A tragic, traumatic childhood casts a long shadow on the Hoedemaker sisters. Maureen has worked hard to move beyond the violence of the past and build a good, honest life for herself. Audrey, however, just can't seem to do the same, careening from one state of chaos to another.

A fantastic Listen
Revisado: 03-29-25
Not only was the narration fantastic, the story was one of the best written books dealing with a heavy topic. The writing flowed and although slightly slow to start, kept my interest throughout. So much so, I finished it in one day.. I kept finding chores I needed to do where I could keep on listening. Definitely worth checking out. I’m very glad I did.

It’s alright
Revisado: 08-10-24
It’s not bad… but not exactly great either .. if you are ok with a predictable storyline which is written in a halfway decent way… then this is a good pick.
Don’t expect it to be a book “you can’t stop reading/listening to” or that will have you drawn in with suspense…
If it’s not available for free, I definitely wouldn’t spend a credit on it.
I honestly just don’t think it would be worth it. As I said.. not bad… but not exactly that great either.

Exceeded expectations
Revisado: 07-05-24
I went into this book basically, because I was tired of trying to figure out what to read next and didn’t really think any of the options I looked at sounded all that great. Frustrated .. I picked this as my credit. I listen to about 4-5 books a month on audible.. and I can truthfully say that this purchase was my biggest pleasant surprise. I literally listened to this in less than 24 hours, not wanting to put it down and picking it back up every chance I got till it was done. Even staying up way too late/early than I should’ve. It was well written, captivating, the narrator was fantastic (I did increase the speed slightly-per personal choice) . This book was VERY much worth a credit, so much more than many others I have listened to this year… many many more.

Unexpectedly good
Revisado: 03-09-24
Got this on a whim not thinking it would be more than background noise for my dog walks or housecleaning.. However, this is one of the best audio books I’ve listened to in a good while.. I was really surprised how much I got into it.. the narrator’s voice for some characters was a little on the weak side.. but it wasn’t awful, and after a minute.. I forgot my first wincing impression of them.. all in all I was VERY happy I stumbled on this book!

I loved it!
Revisado: 09-22-23
I was pleasantly surprised by this audio book. The writing was superb and the narrator was equally fantastic. The author skillfully addresses a topic that deserves much more attention and recognition. The integration of the issue regarding the treatment of indigenous people into the narrative was masterfully executed. I became totally engrossed listening to this book and I was genuinely disappointed when it ended..
I wholeheartedly recommend giving it a listen!

Difficult listen
Revisado: 09-21-23
I really wanted to like this book and I tried hard to make it.. but I just couldn’t listen to the narrator any more.. I’m sorry but no matter what I tried- slowing it down, speeding and speeding it up even more.. it was no use.. I think I may have made it to chapter 4 or 5 .. and that alone was painful

Hadn’t really expected too much when I purchased this book. But it was fantastic.. I listened to it in one go! I couldn’t stop listening. I did speed up narration a little but with some exceptions, I do that with most of the books I listen to. Definitely worth a credit. Loved it

This was really awful
Revisado: 06-27-23
This book was seriously VERY difficult to listen to. The storyline and writing was really corny and was a mix between a horrible hallmark movie and some stupid soft porn (with a cliche plot).. and if it wasn’t for falling asleep with my headphones in.. I never would have made it through.. it was a hard pass for me
