Excellent storytelling. Immersive narration.
Revisado: 02-03-25
In book one, I am impressed by the original world building and three-dimensional characters, both heroes and villains. Enough mystery and morally grey areas exist to invite the reader to wonder which outcomes and characters to root for. There will be an intermission of 30 seconds before queuing up book 2.

Historia
In Unmasking Autism, Dr. Devon Price shares their personal experience with masking and blends history, social science research, prescriptions, and personal profiles to tell a story of neurodivergence that has thus far been dominated by those on the outside looking in. For Dr. Price and many others, Autism is a deep source of uniqueness and beauty. Unfortunately, living in a neurotypical world means it can also be a source of incredible alienation and pain.

This is such a delightful book. I love when a seties starts strong and stays strong. The love between friends and lovers feels so genuine and real.
The narration though! Oh my word. I was brought to tears. Exemplary voice acting! It really took the story to the next level.

Historia
An esteemed professor of biology at Wheaton College, John Kricher leads a fascinating discussion of the approximately 10,000 species of birds that share our world. In these engaging lectures, Kricher expands on such topics as bird anatomy, the mechanics of flight, migration, reproduction, and song. The professor's lively presentation demonstrates how understanding the traits, life cycle, and evolution of birds is critical for an understanding of the origins and evolution of life on earth - and why conservation plays a vital role in the environment's delicate balance.

Fascinating and engaging!
Revisado: 02-05-24
I’ve picked up a few audiobooks about birds, and this one has been my absolute favorite so far. I learned so many surprising facts. (Hawks use ultraviolet light vision to hunt by looking for the urine trails of rodents! Swans have the greatest number of feathers, mostly on their necks!)
My brain is buzzing with questions about the birds in my neighborhood. I wish I could take this professor’s classes. He must be a very engaging teacher.

Historia
Meet our heroine, Mo. She’s every dyke’s dream—or so she’s been told by her kind and supportive friends. She’s shy but passionate, politically aware, as committed to her egalitarian all-womyn’s softball team as she is to her volunteer work at the Gay and Lesbian Community Center. So why can’t she find a girlfriend? Could it possibly be because she’s more judgmental than Gertrude Stein and more self-sabotaging than Bojack Horseman?

Revisado: 11-21-23

Seeking help for her rescue mission, Marra is offered the tools she needs, but only if she can complete three seemingly impossible tasks:

Bravo! Another masterpiece by T. Kingfisher
Revisado: 11-20-23
I’ve been reading all of Kingfisher’s books, and I just love their writing style so much. Like previous books, this one has fantastic world building and relatable flushes-out characters. Nettle and Bone takes a slight deviation from the more playful and funny of precious works into slightly more serious themes. But where the book starts dark, it finishes light and hopeful like the satisfying crunchy sugar crust on a hearty zucchini bread. I continue to look forward to doing what T. Kingfisher will serve up next.

Historia
Anthony Peardew is the keeper of lost things. Forty years ago he carelessly lost a keepsake from his beloved fiancée, Therese. That very same day, she died unexpectedly. Brokenhearted, Anthony sought consolation in rescuing lost objects - the things others have dropped, misplaced, or accidently left behind - and writing stories about them. Now, in the twilight of his life, Anthony worries that he has not fully discharged his duty to reconcile all the lost things with their owners.

Trite
Revisado: 10-06-23
It was trying for poignant and meaningful, but ended up being a little too cheesy and unbelievable. We are a culture now where so many objects fly through our lives, and why would anyone remember the hair tie, umbrella, glove, or puzzle piece and then bother to want to be reunited with it? I was exhausted just thinking about it. Have a yard sale and be done with it.
The character of Sunshine, who had Down Syndrome, also felt problematic with her magical insight and accidentally clever malapropisms. It made her character feel more cartoony, less human.
