Historia
Charlie Reade looks like a regular high school kid, great at baseball and football, a decent student. But he carries a heavy load. His mom was killed in a horrific accident when he was seven, and grief drove his dad to drink. Charlie learned how to take care of himself—and his dad. When Charlie is seventeen, he meets a dog named Radar and her aging master, Howard Bowditch, a recluse in a big house at the top of a big hill, with a locked shed in the backyard. Sometimes strange sounds emerge from that shed.

Great story, character development, and narration
Revisado: 02-02-23
I'll preface this by saying I don't usually read or listen to Stephen King novels. I don't like horror and the like. That said, after reading the reviews on this I took a chance, and I'm glad I did. The character development was stellar and the story was beautifully told. There were a few moments where I some things were a bit too drawn out, such as Charlie's time in the prison, but when zombies and the like are involved, I lose interest quickly. I'm not sure if shortening it would have benefited the story. I kept going and was rewarded with a rewarding story that I'll recommend to friends. It had a satisfying ending that wrapped up the lose ends which I appreciated.

Throughout these books, Follett has followed the fortunes of five intertwined families - American, German, Russian, English, and Welsh - as they make their way through the twentieth century. Now they come to one of the most tumultuous eras of all: the enormous social, political, and economic turmoil of the 1960s through the 1980s, from civil rights, assassinations, mass political movements and Vietnam to the Berlin Wall, the Cuban Missile Crisis, presidential impeachment, revolution - and rock and roll.

Historia
In September 1941, Adolf Hitler's Wehrmacht surrounded Leningrad in what was to become one of the longest and most destructive sieges in Western history - almost three years of bombardment and starvation that culminated in the harsh winter of 1943 - 1944. Trapped between the Nazi invading force and the Soviet government itself was composer Dmitri Shostakovich, who would write a symphony that roused, rallied, eulogized, and commemorated his fellow citizens - the Leningrad Symphony.

Historia
As dusk approaches a small Dublin suburb in the summer of 1984, mothers begin to call their children home. But on this warm evening, three children do not return from the dark and silent woods. When the police arrive, they find only one of the children gripping a tree trunk in terror, wearing blood-filled sneakers, and unable to recall a single detail of the previous hours. Twenty years later, the found boy, Rob Ryan, is a detective on the Dublin Murder Squad and keeps his past a secret.

Entertaining excursion
Revisado: 03-08-13
This was my first listen to a Neal Stephenson book and it was quite entertaining. It was slow to begin, and I was close to stopping it. Keep listening!
The story is intricate and has a number of well developed characters.
Suspend belief because there was a lot of things that would never happen in the real world. But this is fiction and so that doesn't bother me.
Two things did bother me. The author needs to find synonyms for "reckon". That word was terribly over used to the point that it became annoying.
The narrator had trouble with the accents. It would be better if he didn't even try. But it wasn't a huge distraction from the over all story. In the long run I would call it a good narration, but not perfect.
In the end this was a great story and I'm quite happy to have spent the time listening to it.

One of the top 3 Reacher novels. For Sure.
Revisado: 09-20-12
What did you love best about A Wanted Man?
Taut Storyline. Great Characterizations. Unexpected plot.
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
Yes! Usually Reacher is in a new town with a person or group of people in need of his special talents. This was different in that there wasn't any one place that was the center of the story. Instead it was all about the action. I couldn't guess what would happen next and that is much appreciated from an avid reader (and listener).
What does Dick Hill bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Dick Hill does is usual masterful job of individualizing the characters so you know who is thinking and saying what.
Any additional comments?
I love the Reacher series and have since book 1. This one is definitely in my top 3 of the Reacher novels. Loved it!
