Historia
Throughout her studies, Ceony Twill has harbored a secret, one she's kept from even her mentor, Emery Thane. She's discovered how to practice forms of magic other than her own - an ability long thought impossible. While all seems set for Ceony to complete her apprenticeship and pass her upcoming final magician's exam, life quickly becomes complicated. To avoid favoritism, Emery sends her to another paper magician for testing, a Folder who despises Emery and cares even less for his apprentice.

Riley Kennedy’s emails keep getting crossed with her male colleague, Kennedy Riley. The infuriating man forwards them along with his annoying commentary and unsolicited advice. Historia
The year is 2004: Lina Sparrow is an ambitious young lawyer working on a historic class-action lawsuit seeking reparations for the descendants of American slaves. The year is 1852: Josephine is a 17-year-old house slave who tends to the mistress of a Virginia tobacco farm - an aspiring artist named Lu Anne Bell. It is through her father, renowned artist Oscar Sparrow, that Lina discovers a controversy rocking the art world: Art historians now suspect that the revered paintings of Lu Anne Bell, an antebellum artist known for her humanizing portraits of the slaves who worked her Virginia tobacco farm, were actually the work of her house slave, Josephine.

Historia
From Lauren Graham, the beloved star of Gilmore Girls and Parenthood, comes a witty, charming, and hilariously relatable debut novel about a struggling young actress trying to get ahead - and keep it together - in New York City. It’s January 1995, and Franny Banks has just six months left of the three-year deadline she set for herself when she came to New York, dreaming of Broadway and doing "important" work. But all she has to show for her efforts so far is a part in an ad for ugly Christmas sweaters, and a gig waiting tables at a comedy club....

Anxiously mediocre
Revisado: 05-28-19
If I am being honest, I should expect nothing less from our Lauren Graham, but I was hoping for light romantic comedy in book form, and the dizzying interior monologue of the whimpy heroine made me anxious in not a good, suspenseful way. The end was unsatisfying for me in a way that made the whole thing rather disappointing.

Not for me
Revisado: 10-11-18
I really loved "ready player one" an this book was recommended to me with that in mind. I couldn't get into it and hate abandoning books, but when this one ended I wasn't invested in any of the characters enough to want to continue. It's a fine story, just not enough for me to carry on.

Totally satisfying. I was shocked at how many characters came back, and could've done without closing all the loops, but was very impressed with how the actress kept all the voices distinct and her performance.
