Historia
As the Kingdom of Maldobar emerges victorious from the brutal invasion of the Tibran Empire, much of the land is left in utter ruin. With his home destroyed and family gone, 16-year-old Thatcher Renley has no one left to turn to. And when he’s mistaken for a Tibran soldier and banished to a wartime prison camp, Thatcher knows his only hope for freedom lies in appealing to Queen Jenna directly. But getting out of the prison camp might be the least of his worries - especially after he stumbles across a feral dragon locked in an iron cell.

After the last two books I had decided that I was not going to read anymore of her books, too much violence and blood for me. But I just happened to see her in a newsletter and after reading the review decided to give it a try. I was very pleasantly surprised, and really enjoyed it. I am looking forward to the rest of the series and hope it does not go in a different direction. Story moved along at just the right pace, narration was good, really enjoyed the sequel to the first series.

Disappointed
Revisado: 10-13-20
I was quite disappointed for two reasons. First was the language. I realize that for some this is not a big issue, but I listen to books with my wife and grandchildren, and I have trusted that with Sanderson's name I could be safe doing this. However be warned there is a constant amount of strong to very strong profanity and vulgarity, way to much for us. I will now have to check out and be cautious, of future books by Sanderson as we can longer trust his name to be associated with appropriate material.
Secondly is how dark the story is, no hope, no redemption, no moral compass, etc. just a dark, dystopian future.
On a positive note Julia Whelan as always does an excellent narration.
I rarely review books but in this case it is way below what we have come to expect.

A little to emtional
Revisado: 06-09-18
The book had a good story, it was to much constant emotion from the characters, someone is always crying, full of anger, etc.I also got a little tired of "Oh my Gods" on what felt like every page, I enjoyed the narration, I did not enjoy the author putting in her political views in the epilogue, but it is her book so she has the right to do that. I would have to rate it at above average.

Historia
Everything I’d known about the world was a lie. On my thirteenth birthday, I, Alcatraz Smedry (yes, I got named after a prison, don’t ask), received my inheritance: a bag of sand. And then I accidentally destroyed my foster parents’ kitchen. It’s not my fault, things just break around me, I swear! I thought the sand was a joke until evil Librarians came to steal it. You’re probably thinking, “Librarians are nice people who recommend good books,” but that’s just what they want you to think!

kind of crazy
Revisado: 04-20-17
Any additional comments?
I was definitely not prepared for this. After Steelheart and Mistbourne, this was kind of a shock, it took me quite a while to make the transition. My grandkids warned me, but still caught me off guard. Once I got in to it I found it funny. My grandkids found it hilarious. I enjoyed the creativity, play on words, and the story itself. I think the next one will be more enjoyable as I will be used to the story. Listen to this when you just want something for fun to lighten up your day.

Any additional comments?
Now that I understand more of how the books are going I enjoyed this more, plus my grandkids and I had a lot of fun conversations about it, which made it so much fun. It moved along well, kept me interested, humor was fun and creative, lots of teasers about what is coming, good fun listen

Historia
So now you've heard all about me, Alcatraz Smedry, and how I was swept out of my life in your normal world and into the fight against the Librarians (jerks!). After being all heroic and stuff in that tale, I didn’t expect to charge headlong into enemy territory: the Library of Alexandria, where I—and my grandpa and my grouchy bodyguard Bastille and her even grouchier mother and some weirdly gifted cousins—run across the Curators (ghosts who will gladly help you check out a book as long as you don’t mind giving up your mortal soul) and some new nasty Librarians who hate our guts.

more fun and craziness
Revisado: 04-20-17
Any additional comments?
This time I was more prepared for the craziness, I do not find all of it that funny, but my grandkids just love the humor. Another fun book, I liked it better than the first, both deserve a solid 4 stars. So sit back, put on the headphones, and just enjoy.

good addition to series
Revisado: 04-20-17
Any additional comments?
Another good addition to the series. Now that I have figured out the series I am enjoying it more. The humor and plot are sometimes more for younger readers, a little too silly or redundant, but to others that is probably a positive. Very clever. If you liked the first ones you will like this one. Overall I will definitely continue with the series, and am curious to see how he fulfills the opening statement in the first book.

another good addition to the series
Revisado: 04-20-17
Any additional comments?
We have enjoyed this series. Starting to get a little darker, but not totally depressing, with a no hope style like we have seen in other books. The ending will leave you wanting to start the next ASAP. While there is a little too much emotional reaction form the main characters, but not overbearing. The narrator is good, sometimes a little too flat but not enough to spoil the narration. Overall definitely worth the listen.

solid five stars

Any additional comments?
Excellent, I do not say that very often but this was flat out excellent. We have enjoyed all of M Sullivan's books so far, but this may be our favorite. Not as dark as some which was nice. Full of surprises. Very important themes and lessons about how we treat and respect others. Many books grow on us as we read them, but not this one. It was one of those few books where I was hooked from the first page. Totally unexpected ending ( I am talking about the last fourth of the book). Narration as always is one of the top narrators we have listened to. Tim just flat out does an outstanding job. There are average, good and excellent, but Mr. Reynolds is at the top of the list with a few others. We would definitely recommend this, whether you are a first time reader of Mr Sullivan as it is a stand alone book, or as a fan of his works to continue the enjoyment.
