Very informative and engaging
Revisado: 04-19-24
Really interesting and informative, learned a lot about the intricacies of brewing that I was not aware of. I’m a beer fan and looking to get into homebrewing so this definitely helped encourage and inspire me to start. The narration was good but I had to chuckle sometimes at some of the accents. Overall very good!

Historia
Beeronomics examines key developments that have moved the brewing industry forward. Its most ubiquitous ingredient, hops, was used by the Hanseatic League to establish the export dominance of Hamburg and Bremen in the 16th century. During the late 19th century, bottom-fermentation led to the spread of industrial lager beer. Industrial innovations in bottling, refrigeration, and TV advertising paved the way for the consolidation and market dominance of major macrobreweries during the 20th century.

Very informative, wish it was longer

Learned a lot, especially about the business struggles and conflicts between large and small breweries. Narration was great, although his pronunciation of Busch and Dos Equis did make me chuckle a bit.

Historia
Beer offers an amusing and informative account of the art and science of brewing, examining the history of brewing, and how the brewing process has evolved through the ages. The third edition features more information concerning the history of beer, especially in the United States; British, Japanese, and Egyptian beer; beer in the context of health and nutrition; and the various styles of beer. Author Charles Bamforth has also added detailed information on prohibition, Sierra Nevada, and life as a maltster.

Overly technical
Revisado: 04-11-24
Learned some useful information and obviously the author knows his stuff, but a large percentage of the book was so technical that it was like listening to someone read an instruction manual. Also contains a lot of information regarding large scale brewing which, to me at least, is far less interesting than small scale brewing. Performance was fine if a bit dry, but overall the book was a slog to finish.

Historia
At the approach of the first millennium, the Christians of Europe did not seem likely candidates for future greatness. They saw no future beyond the widely anticipated Second Coming of Christ. But when the world did not end, the peoples of Western Europe suddenly found themselves with no choice but to begin the heroic task of building a Jerusalem on Earth. In The Forge of Christendom, Tom Holland masterfully describes this remarkable new age, a time of caliphs and Viking sea kings, the spread of castles, and the invention of knighthood.

Informative and interesting

Enjoyable listen, but more suited for beginners to the period. The performance was good but too theatrical for my taste.
