Historia
Felix's life on Earth had become a series of dead-end jobs, ruined relationships, and rotating apartments smaller than most postage stamps. By all accounts, even his own, he was a coward. Too afraid to move forward, to take risks. Yet when given the chance to choose between risking his life or walking away from a deadly encounter, he didn't hesitate. Moments before his untimely demise, Felix was snatched from earth and thrust into a magical world known only as "The Continent". Empowered by the "System", he learns that he can strengthen himself through combat and dedication.

Phenomenal start to an outstanding series!
Revisado: 10-22-24
Outstanding once the story got going! Typically slow, painful start (genre weakness) but once the mc transitioned from isolation to interacting with others things picked up quickly (typical of the genre as well). Love the book and the series! excellent ending left me hungry for more😊

It was a day like any other when suddenly the world changed. The universe reached a threshold humanity didn’t even know existed, and it was time to finally be integrated into the vast multiverse. A place where power is the only thing anyone can truly rely on.

Slow start to a great series
Revisado: 10-15-24
Like most Litrpg/Progression a main character that can thrive in that scenario suffers from being a little unlikable, unsociable, and situationally isolated at first… no spoilers but there is a buddy relationship that grounds the whole series and once that is established the book hit better for me. On my third series listen… love this book and the series as a whole.

Teach you how to think about choices
Revisado: 07-28-24
Read this book… even if you’re not going to do micro services. this book covers so much, impacts of centralizing versus decentralizing technology choices strategies for risk reduction of architecture scale, how corporate culture institutional technical maturity impact (and impacted by) the technology choices you make– I just finished my first listen through it won’t be my last.

The most dangerous night of the year is upon Coggeshall. Fiends' Night, when the boundary between Vuldranni and hell is the weakest. And so hell comes out to play. To survive the night, Montana must put his entire holding on lockdown and turn hastily made cave apartments into an actual, inviting home for thousands of Coggeshall residents. Most of whom don't really know or like each other. And all of whom have different ideas of what needs to be done on Fiends' Night.

MC had a Lobotomy
Revisado: 10-21-23
I love this series, but in this book the main character suddenly and inexplicably developed brain damage - nothing else makes sense, given the overwhelming number of things that the MC forgot, overlooked, ignored, or neglected to share with others, even when directly asked for the information… It denies all credulity and wasn't even one of those cases where the author cheated to force the plot, as simply not providing the information to begin with would have fixed the problem with no downside. I love this series, so much so that I have continued to pay the premium for the relatively small chucks (as compared to others in the genre) that the writing is broken into, but given that premium there is absolutely no excuse for this. I am writing this review, not for the quality of the book, but for the drop in quality compared to every other book so far in the series and the fact that it would have been so very easy to fix. To a large degree I feel this is much more likely to be an editor problem than an author problem and I hope that the publishers do something to ensure that problems like this do not happen again.

Giving you the words to think about your friendships and what you want from them
Revisado: 02-19-21
I’m 40+, divorcing, moved to a new town, almost empty nested — basically starting over — and found I lacked the words and examples I needed to think through what I wanted from current and future friendships and what I definitely didn’t. If you are thinking through the friends you want in your life, the boundaries you want to set with those friends, and the type of friend you want to be (which, let’s face it, is basically everyone) then I highly recommend this book to you.

In his inimitably entertaining and wonderfully witty style, he takes apart famous phrases and shows how you too can write like Shakespeare or quip like Oscar Wilde. Whether you’re aiming to achieve literary immortality or just hoping to deliver the perfect one-liner, The Elements of Eloquence proves that you don’t need to have anything important to say - you simply need to say it well.

Enjoyable, Knowledgable, and Perfect
Revisado: 08-01-16
Would you consider the audio edition of The Elements of Eloquence to be better than the print version?
With all of the quotes, poetry, and speeches quoted in the book, I feel having a narrator - a truly exceptional narrator at that - added a lot to the book.
What’s an idea from the book that you will remember?
I'm sure I'll never remember all of the heavy terms in this book (e.g. isocolon, antitheses) but they are described so well with so many great examples that I'm equally certain that I will never listen to another great speech, song, or passage from a book without spotting that a rhetorical tool is being used and realizing that that is why it is having an impact on me.
Some examples from the book:
- Rage, Rage against the dying of the light
- Lies, damn lies and statistics
- Hope springs eternal
Any additional comments?
